March 2009 Mom

I’m pretty sure colorful stripes are the universal sign for Spring. Or maybe it’s floral patterns, but stripes are right up there. In any case, Anne looked great and made me want to run right out and find something stripey. For being so Spring-inspired, she is our March Mom!

How To Wear Rain Boots – For Moms

Inspired, as I was, by my Victoria vacation, and the super cool rain boots I purchased for the little man….I started wondering if I too could pull off wearing rain boots.

Best Rain Boots for Kids

Splashers rain boots are made in Canada (Yay! Not China!), have a moisture wicking inner lining, are completely puddle (or ocean) proof and sturdy as hell. With the exception of the camo print, their other designs are very, very cool.

Stroll On With Your Bad Self

However, nothing sabotages my inner rock-star faster than carrying around a bunch of cutesy baby crap. Blankets with puppies, kittens or bunnies are nice, but you just can’t get no satisfaction from a cutsey-woosty baby blanket draped across your stroller. Enter Oshie Vintage – a line of rock-star worthy baby blankets that are perfect for adding a little R-O-C-K to your afternoon walk in the park.

Date Night & Dressin' Up

I expected that by now, a year later, we would be pros at this parenting thing. We would’ve had our babysitter booked and would be all set for a night on the town sans kid! Whoo hoo, baby! What an idiot. First of all, no one wants to babysit on NYE, and second of all, my son is still nursing, going through separation anxiety, and is just not baby-sittable. And….to be honest….a night on the town sounds fun, but it’s a little “been there, done that.” So this year we’re getting together with some friends, making fancy food, and drinking and eating our way into the New Year. It’s a bring-the-kiddos-and-stay-in kind of NYE. So now, my big dilemma….what do I wear? I need to be comfortable (and be able to nurse), but it’s NYE darn it!! I need to feel festive! There are two options I’m toying with……

Best First Christmas Ornaments for Baby

When we moved out, Mom gave us all of our ornaments. And each year at Christmas, I get out my big box of ornaments and spend a little time traipsing down memory lane. It always makes me feel close to my family (who are so far away), and now that I’m a mom, it is much more personal. I can almost see my mom picking some of the ornaments out – practically giggling to herself when she found a good one, one that really reflected who I was at the time. These little ornaments are a reflection of my childhood, and a reflection that my mom understood who I was, what I liked, what I thought was cool, and showed me, each year at Christmas, that she loved who I was becoming. As my own little man grows, I can’t wait to learn more about him. I will certainly keep my mom’s tradition — it’s one little way to show him how amazing I think he is.
To kick things off, I want a really amazing First Christmas ornament. I haven’t decided if it must say “First Christmas” or if I want to go with something less traditional. There are so many to choose from, but here are my favorites:
