Who was going to tell me that Banana Republic is in love with us taller humans right now?

If you were also not aware – let me introduce you to these barrel jeans…in the regular inseam:

Tall Girl Try-On: The Best Banana Republic Pieces That Actually Fit

I don’t remember the last time I went shopping in store at Banana Republic. But lately, everything they have online – from the individual pieces to the outfit styling to the overall aesthetic of the website – has been speaking my language.

So when I had some free time this last week I decided to bop inside.

To my delight, the in-store shopping experience mirrored what I felt scrolling online. Luxe but calming, inspiring while not at all overwhelming. It wasn’t until I was in the dressing room that I realized the clothes felt practically tailored to my height.

And I’m 5’10”!

6 Banana Republic Pieces That Are Amazing for Tall(er) Women

Had I more time (and maybe an energy drink on hand – what is it about trying clothes on in a dressing room that completely zaps your consciousness?!) I would have kept going until I tried on the entire store. But with what I did grab to take for a spin, there were a few key winners that I highly recommend.

1) High Rise Loose Barrel Jeans

I have wanted to try these jeans since the moment I found them online, but the long inseams during sale periods kept running out (don’t worry, they’re currently back along with the petite) and I hesitated. As it turns out, the regular inseam is plenty long for me.

This jean is extra baggy, like if your favorite wide leg jeans got an extra addition of a barrel shape. But they’re actually very different from your average barrel jean, because instead of the traditional added side panel to create the barrel look, they exaggerated and twisted the single side seam to make it something entirely new.

I also tried the black wash in a size 30, which is why I have a little more length here, but the jeans are already designed to be cool-girl-slouchy, so sizing up just causes them to be too big everywhere.

Size notes: I run between a 28 and 29 these days and loved the 29 for a relaxed waist fit and a tad more length.

2) The Oversized Shirt In Cotton Poplin

My first reaction to the Oversized Shirt was to turn around and gasp at how gloriously long it laid over my bum. This is the type of shirt you could throw on over a swimsuit and then wear to dinner afterwards with a satin short peeking out as you walk and little strappy heels.

Size Notes: I didn’t actually realize it was an oversized style and grabbed an XL in hopes of a looser fit (I’m more of a true large but often prefer XL). Depending on your style preferences you can totally stick with your usual size and still have that ideal loose fit, but I love things exaggerated.

I ended up trying two different color options of the same top because they were so striking in real life.

3) Low Rise Loose Studded Ankle Jeans

I had no idea where the length was going to land on me with these jeans when I pulled them from the rack, nor did I know where they were supposed to land once I had them on my body. All I knew is they were some of the coolest I’ve felt in a pair of jeans in a long time.

As it turns out, they fit me just as they do on the model – stopping right at the ankle.

These jeans feel set apart from the ankle jeans that were so popular a few years back (the form fitting styles that only slightly curved out at the bottom hems before abruptly ending). These are more like a denim gaucho – loose, unstructured, easy.

I LOVE this new unstructured concept.

Size notes: A 28 fit beautifully loose, you can size down if inbetween sizes, and these are available in petite + long inseams when shopping online.

4) Oversized Denim Utility Pocket Shirt

If I didn’t have two oversized denim tops I love + wear all the time, I would have brought this top home immediately. It’s the type of denim shirt that would make every ordinary denim outfit feel effortlessly more styled.

The denim is structured yet soft, the pockets are perfectly unique, and the sleeves scrunch up for more dynamic looks.

Style idea: throw this on with a pair of legging or capri pants + heeled flip flops!

5) Cotton Popover Top

Before my hands became overwhelmed with items for the dressing room, I grabbed this cotton top to try simply because it was so different from anything I own or naturally gravitate towards.

It felt cool and sophisticated in that easy, outdoorsy way only Banana Republic can emulate. I loved that it wasn’t a blouse nor wasn’t a button-up nor wasn’t a t-shirt, yet it still feels just as easy to throw on with your favorite denim shorts or chic white jeans in the summer.

The top has that boxy cut that can look really cool but fall a bit too short in real life on taller bodies. But this one had just enough length to sit past my natural hip. A total win.

Turns out, it’s also available in denim…and I might love that version more.

6) Oversized Vintage Cotton T-Shirt

tee (M) | jeans (30)

A perfectly cut t-shirt, especially for longer limbs.

The shoulders are cut wide enough for broad upper bodies, the sleeves dip down longer than your average, and the length hits right at the waist to compliment any bottom you have on. It was also deliciously soft.

Similar but different: If you love this tee but need a little less body, opt for this easy boyfriend tee.
