I’ve been wanting to try Biossance for a while now. Shana & Em are both big fans of the brand, and it’s hard not to catch their enthusiasm for the (vegan + non-toxic!) skincare line, and when I read some of the RAVE reviews on their products, I was even more excited to try it. So when an opportunity arose to test out their limited-edition kit curated with Aimee Song (of Song of Style, one of my favorite influencers of all time), I was all about it. In Aimee’s words:
“This is a dream collaboration with one of my all-time favorite beauty brands. As a long-time eczema sufferer with extremely sensitive skin, I’m always super cautious about the skincare products I use. My love affair with Biossance started with its Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil. I know you’ll love these products I’ve curated.”

Your Favorite Kit: Biossance X Aimee Song
Your Favorite Kit, as it’s so aptly-named, includes four of Aimee’s most-loved products: Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil, Squalane + Phyto-Retinol Serum, Squalane + Rose Vegan Lip Balm and Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream (all in a pretty carrying case).

Biossance Squalane: A Skincare Routine Beauty Boost
And, if you’re like me, at this point you’re probably wondering what in the world squalane is. I had never heard of it, to be honest, but I’m glad I had this opportunity because it sounds like it does wonders for your skin:
“Squalane is the shelf-stable version of squalene, the natural skin hydrator our sebaceous glands make. Squalene keeps our skin’s outer layer moisturized and protected. But as we get older, we make less and less. That’s where squalane comes in: this mega-moisturizing molecule beautifully mimics our skin’s natural hydration.”
Simply put? Squalane hydrates and plumps your skin, which is always a good thing–especially for aging skin. And the squalane used in every Biossance product is sourced from sustainable and renewable sugarcane as opposed to shark livers (as it is sometimes sourced from), which has a devastating effect on the environment. Speaking of the environment, Biossance is pioneering the sustainable beauty movement–they’re dedicated to creating quality, vegan skincare products that are packed with safe and pure ingredients that are sustainably sourced to protect both your skin and the environment. Their products are formulated without parabens, synthetic fragrances, or over 2,000 ingredients that are potentially toxic or questionable. (You can read about each and every ingredient they use in their ingredient library.) And all Biossance products are proudly vegan, cruelty-free and EWG-verified.
Limited-Edition Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil
This oil brightens, firms and instantly hydrates skin. It increases skin radiance by improving tone and texture and boosts skin firmness and suppleness. Basically, it makes your skin look better. You apply it all over your face and neck to lock in hydration, and I especially like that you can use it both morning and night to simplify your skin care regimen. (You can also mix a drop or two into your foundation for a dewier finish that is super-pretty.)

Squalane + Phyto-Retinol Serum
Phyto-Retinol, as in a gentler plant-based alternative to traditional retinol that can be irritating to skin. I especially love that I don’t have to worry about sun exposure with this serum, but still get the fine-line reducing, skin-firming benefits of traditional retinol. Start your skincare regimen with this stuff (apply on clean skin) morning and night.

Squalane + Rose Vegan Lip Balm
This lip balm is 100% petroleum-free and contains Hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture. I was worried this would have a very strong rose scent, but it’s super-subtle and I love the shine. A little goes a long way, and it feels really soft and smooth on your lips. (I also like that it’s colorless, so I can layer it over lip color for shine.)

Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream
This eye cream really hydrates without being too heavy or greasy. My eye area is so dry lately–both under my eyes and even my upper eyelids. And I love that I can use this right on my upper eyelids (unlike some eye creams) without irritation. You can use it morning and night. I also tested it under my favorite eye shadows and concealer to make sure it didn’t compromise the makeup. This stuff is awesome.
