Thank you to Dyson & ShopStyle for sponsoring this post!
The Dyson Corrale is — easily — the best straightener I’ve ever used (and I’ve tried them all). Without exaggeration, this piece is a total game-changer. The flexing copper plates shape to gather hair, making it easier to style (especially if I’m going for beachy waves) AND allows me to style with less heat. I’ve found that the results are less frizzy (and shinier, too).
Hello, Dyson! Hair Straightening Goals, Achieved
This styling tool has some range. Whether I’m going for straight and sleek to actual curls–or everything in between (bit of texture? beachy waves?)–this straightener makes them seriously easy. And despite the promise of ‘less heat’ the results last –even without a ton of product. Right now, you can get the Dyson Corrale straightener with two complimentary gifts — a Dyson-designed paddle brush and detangling comb.
Beachy Waves, Texture & No Frizz: A Review Of The Dyson Corrale Hair Straightener
Any tool that makes hair easier/faster to style, or makes a style more long-lasting is going to be a win. But my hair, admittedly, is pretty easy to style. So I enlisted the help of my mom and sister, to really put the Dyson Corrale to the test. My mom has really thick and curly hair, which is prone to frizz. My sister has a ton of long, straight hair…that doesn’t typically take a curl very well (unless you add a ton of heat).
Dyson Cordless Hair Straightener Tested 5 Ways
I tested our favorite style–the beachy wave–on all three of us; I brought the Corrale into my salon to see what my stylist could come up with; and–obviously–I tested out it’s straightening power.
Case Study 1: Beachy Waves On My Mom (Coarse, Curly, Thick Hair, Prone to Frizz)
Mom’s hair is really coarse and frizzy. It’s naturally curly and although she typically lets it air-dry (and uses a ton of product to combat the frizz), it’s a constant battle between her curls and the humidity.
We started with her usual style (air-dryed and curly), and worked in sections. We used the Corrale to curl and bend each section, and smooth the cuticle. I’ve literally never seen her hair look so shiny and smooth…and it stayed like that the entire day and night without any styling products.
Case Study 2: Beachy Waves On Me (Fine, Damaged, Medium Length)
I have fairly fine hair that has some residual damage from years of bleaching and heat-styling. With the Dyson Corrale–unlike curls I get from a wand–it smooths the entire cuticle from root to tip and takes the frizz out of the ends of my hair. (This is the same reason my mom’s hair looked so good.)
I love the non-uniform curls and texture I get from twisting the barrel as I run it along the sections of hair. A little tousle with my fingers to break up the curls and create separation, and I’m good to go.
Case Study 3: Beachy Waves On Shana (Thick, Straight Hair, and LOTS of it)
Most of you know Shana’s hair is thick and gorgeous (#annoying), but it is fairly straight and doesn’t typically hold curl very well unless you’re using some intense heat (obviously not great for any hair, although she has had solid results with the Airwrap by Dyson).
I tried the Corrale on her and OMG…not only did it take under 15 minutes (a new record!!) to create some ridiculously beautiful waves, but they held up for days–and I didn’t even use any styling product or hairspray!
Case Study 4: Softly Textured Waves
Thanks to the flexing copper plates, this straightener has so much control that it’s also easy to create a softer, ever-so-slightly-textured wave. For this look, I worked with my usual stylist, Jenna Beaudry, owner of Prim Rose Studio here in Marquette (and, quite frankly, just wanted her overall impression of the Corrale). She was really impressed with this straightener–it cut down her styling time by at least 25%–and remarked on it’s ease of use. Ever practical, she especially loved the cordless aspect (cords tend to get in the way all the time) and the fact that it heated up almost instantaneously.
To achieve this look, Jenna just bent the iron slightly as she ran it through each section, creating that gorgeous, softly waved texture.
Case Study 5: Sleek and Straight
Lastly, I wanted to see how well the Dyson Corrale Straightener, well…straightens. To create this style, I just sectioned my hair and ran the Corrale down the entire shaft of hair. Unlike other straighteners, I never had to go over the same section twice (meaning I used less heat and will ultimately have less damage).
Typically, after my first pass, there are usually bends in my hair (either from hair I miss or my natural waves refusing to cooperate), but with the Corrale my hair–after just one pass–stayed smooth and sleek throughout.
In summary…all three of us were blown away by the results. The Dyson Corrale really is a completely different kind of hair tool. (One that would make one heck of a gift, too….hint, hint.)
