Hair & Skin Products Getting Me Through Winter

I live in a town where the summers are humid and the winters are dry, like really dry. It’s a polarizing transition, no matter how many years you live here, and it takes some getting used to, especially when you have dry and sensitive skin like me.

I’ve lived here for the majority of my life, yet I’m still taken a bit by surprise when the temperatures drop, the heaters and fireplaces turn on, and my skin, well, it begins to feel like it’s dying (along with my tropical houseplants, too).

11 Dry Skin Solutions: Top Hair & Skincare Products Getting Me Through Winter

When the holidays are over, and we’ve set into the Winter Unknown (that part of the season that feels like it could last forever), I always pull out all my favorite products and pump up the self-care. If my bathroom routine can feel a bit more luxurious and spa-like, it not only helps my hair and skin, but boosts my mood, too!

The products in this roundup are all ones I’ve used and loved (with the exception of one new one I just ordered). My basic winter self-care formula is an exfoliant for every area (one for face, one for body, and one for the scalp) and some thick + heavy creams. If you’re feeling oh-so-dry like me, I’ve got you!

1 | dae Deep Conditioning Hair Mask

I pretty much always use a deep conditioning treatment, because my hair is very thick and heavy, and loves as much hydration as it can get. The scent of this one is incredible for winter — it’s inspired by the desert and has an incredible citrus scent that helps you escape into another world for a moment. I use this with Dae’s shampoo, conditioner, and hair oil to make it a whole experience.

2 | Raw Sugar Body Butter

One of my favorite skincare products in this roundup because it was purchased on a whim, but ended up as my go-to lotion. It’s thick, smells incredible, and sinks into your skin quickly, yet still leaves it smooth all day. I’ve been fooled by many products that sink into your skin quick so you don’t have that greasy feeling, but then my skin is dry and itchy an hour later. Not this one!!

3 | Biossance Lip Balm

This is super-amazing on the lips, and I especially love that it’s vegan. One jar lasts a long time so it’s incredibly worth it!

4 | Tanologist Self-Tanner Drops

With it being winter after all, I always find that a little self-tanner can boost my spirits. I love using this dropper because you add it right into your own lotion, and I feel like it even boosts the hydration of my skin!

5 | Aveda Face Serum

This one is on the pricer side of products I use, but it’s so worth it. Why? Because not only do I have extremely dry skin, but it’s also prone to breakouts. It’s that one-two punch that isn’t common since acne often loves oily skin. I’ve tried so many serums and oils to layer under my face lotion, but they all caused breakouts. THIS one doesn’t!

6 | Tula Face Exfoliating Scrub

I just purchased this product myself, but I always use an exfoliating scrub as part of my routine. Most tell you to just use them a few times a week, but I use them every single day.

7 | Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask

Ohh, THIS. Not only does the watermelon scent send you straight to paradise, but your skin feels like silk in the morning. I use this only twice a week max when my skin is feeling extra dry and tight. Put it on before bed and wash it off in the morning!

8 | Aveda Intense Hydrating Face Cream

I originally purchased this for a night cream, but it felt light enough to me that I also started using it in the daytime under my makeup.

9 | Kristin Ess Scalp Exfoliating Scrub

I started getting dry flaky skin on my scalp a year or so ago and ran to my sister in desperation (she’s a hairdresser). She calmed my nerves when she said it wasn’t dandruff — “It’s just dry skin” she said. Of COURSE, my scalp would be dry, too. She recommended I use a scalp scrub and once I started, I haven’t looked back! I use this one by stylist Kristen Ess first thing when I hop in the shower before shampooing.

10 | Rae Skin Hydration Drops

I’ve taken multiple supplements from this company and love that they are non-GMO and vegan. Just put a dropper full into your water glass or beverage (or straight into your mouth if that’s your style), and get immediate benefits from Hyaluronic acid. (And when it comes to supplements, obviously we’re not doctors so check with yours blah blah…)

11 | frank body Body Exfoliating Scrub

I’ve used this body scrub for years. I found them randomly online and began ordering when they were just a small company and not available from any retailer. The coffee scent is incredible, and it provides a really deep exfoliation for the whole body. I couldn’t recommend this one more!
