The Best Black One-Piece Bathing Suits (Flattering, Chic & Worth It in 2026)

0

If there’s one thing I recommend investing in for the ultimate summer capsule wardrobe, it’s a great black one-piece swimsuit. It’s basically the LBD of swimwear: timeless, super versatile, and somehow always the chicest thing in your suitcase. It works on every body, every age, and for pretty much every summer scenario you can think of. I wear mine as an actual swimsuit, obviously, but also as a bodysuit under linen pants, denim shorts, and flowy skirts for everything from beach days to boardwalk dinners and post-pool ice cream runs.

We’ll always believe that you should wear whatever makes you feel your best, and for me (and a lot of us on the team) it’s a one-piece black swimsuit. But after years of trying them on…we have some strong opinions. We want fabrics that can last through chlorine and salty oceans, straps that stay put, and nothing too thin that I feel like every lump and bump is on blast. While I have no problem showing off my cellulite, I do expect my one-pieces to give me some coverage from the sun, especially if I’m spending the money.

So we’ve sorted the best black one-pieces for 2026 by what you actually need: large bust support, tummy control, sexy details, sporty function, budget vs. splurge. Every suit below has either been tried-and-tested by our team, recommended by readers, or comes from a brand we’ve vetted hard.

And, if you’re looking for even more one-piece swimsuits across all the different categories and styles, we have our Big Swim Guide (that TME Group Chat members get for free!).

The Best Black One-Piece Swimsuits of 2026 (For Every Body + Vibe)

There’s not a single suit here that I wouldn’t recommend, but if I had to pick one? I’m going for J.Crew’s Ruched V-Neck One-Piece. My J.Crew v-neck swimsuit has lasted through many, many chlorine pools and salty beach days, and I can feel the quality every time I put it on. This year, there’s ruching through the middle, and I’m always here for a little ruching action. I find it works great for my bigger chest, too. It’s the kinda suit that I feel super confident in, and always manage to get a compliment or two on (and who doesn’t love that?). A lot of us on the team love it, too…it’s in Scotti’s current rotation after trying on a gazillion.

Okay, onto the rest!

Best Black One-Piece for a Large Bust (D-Cup +)

This is the department I feel reaaal strong about. It’s hard finding swimsuits that simply support a bigger bust, and sometimes I want a bit of a lift, too (it’s quite literally a weight off my shoulders when I find both). What to look for: underwire, thick straps, adjustable straps, and structured cups. Be weary of suits that claim to only have shelf bras, they’re not all created equal.

  • Land’s End D-Cup Tugless X-Back One Piece Swimsuit – This comes in D, DD, DDD; reg, petite, plus size, long torso; sizes 6-18. Has thick straps, and a lot of great reviews including ones that use it for doing laps around the pool and water aerobics. Has chlorine-resistant spandex and provides UPF 50 sun protection. Also love the sewn-in cups so they don’t fold weirdly in the wash.
  • Rip Curl Premium Surf One Piece Swimsuit (D-DD Cup) – (also at Nordstrom) One of Scotti’s long-time faves that’s sexy, but she still feels comfortable wearing around the in-laws. Most important: features a built-in bra (with removable padding), has an underwire for extra support, and covers the chest without totally flattening it. Straps are adjustable and feel secure. As for fabric: it’s super flattering and thicker than others (totally lined).
  • Hilor One-Piece Swimsuit – This one is a little more full-coverage, but there’s something about the side seam details that I’d still feel sexy and confident in, and reviews say it’s not too dowdy. It has thick, adjustable straps, and in case you find wires uncomfortable – this one has molded bra cups with a plush elastic underband for support. Reviews say it holds the girls in great. I’d recommend taller gals trying it out, too (and it’s budget-friendly!).
  • TA3 Lifty One-Piece Shapewear Swimsuit – I’ve been dying to try out this brand (Scotti did, and yes it achieves that hourglass look), and the sizing tempts me even more. Comes in short, regular/long, X-long; XXS-4X; cups: B/C, D/DD, F/G, H/I, J/K. Has thick adjustable straps, lined cups (not removable padding), and underwire.
  • BLEU by Rod Beattie Rib Square Neck Underwire One-Piece Swimsuit – This one is really sleek and simple (which, I love), but I love the ribbed fabric even more. I find ribbed fabrics lay so nicely on the bod, and square necks often look surprisingly great on my larger chest. Underwire for support and adjustable straps.

For a full try-on review of a one-piece swimsuit that works for larger busts, see Scotti’s Rip Curl D-DD One-Piece review.

Best Black One-Piece for Tummy Control / Postpartum

For postpartum swimsuits (or even if you’re looking for some tummy control), the goal isn’t to just hide everything. It’s more about finding something that feels secure, smooth and comfortable enough that it’s enjoyable to wear. Rather than super tight compression, there’s some other features we keep in mind: ruching, gentle support with thicker fabrics, adjustable straps, soft structure (not anything too stiff), and front gathering designs.

  • J.Crew Ruched V-Neck One-Piece – This is my overall #1 pick that I mentioned above. The ruching helps with a softer pooch, and the adjustable straps help with feeling secure (and not like everything’s one slip away from falling out). J.Crew swimsuits have lasted us years, too.
  • Cupshe One-Piece Swimsuit – For a budget-friendly option, this one is similar to the J.Crew swimsuit with the ruching, v-neck and simple shape. It’s one of Cupshe’s most popular suits, and a reader fave that I include every year. Overall reviews say it has good support for a larger bust, and one recommends for people who may have two different cup sizes. The kinda suit that smooths without feeling too constricting and tight.
  • Sea Level Panel Line Multifit One-Piece Swimsuit – I included this one for a few reasons: it almost has a color-blocking trick (or shadow trick) with the different panels, the fabric is ribbed (one of my fave tricks for smoothing), has adjustable straps for a little lift, and powermesh lining.
  • LSPACE Coast to Coast Deep-V One-Piece Swimsuit – LSPACE makes some great quality suits, and I’ve been eyeing this one up for a bit. From the flattering neckline, ribbed fabric, and wrap-front detail…love. Sometimes I prefer a halter-neck style to get my perfect fit on the chest, so I had to include at least one here.
  • Gottex Women’s V-Neck Blouson One Piece Swimsuit – This is a long-time fave that I grabbed from Julieta’s postpartum swim article. It’s the kinda thing that I’d happily wear not only as a swimsuit, but as a top with denim cutoffs. Julieta felt like the girls were secure, and it was her overall pick for postpartum.

For more on what actually works postpartum, see Julieta’s postpartum swim roundup and Shana’s Spring Break swimsuit reviews.

Best Sexy Black One-Piece (Cutouts, Plunges, Sexy Backs)

I’m typically going for a one-piece over a bikini, so if I wanna feel sexy…it’ll be a one-piece black swimsuit with a plunging neckline, sexy back situation, cutouts in the right places or something lingerie-inspired.

  • BECCA Keyhole One-Piece Swimsuit – Becca’s a brand we’ve sworn by for years, and their lingerie-inspired suits are some of the best. It’s structured-enough, keeps things in place, and is just plain old sexy.
  • Andie Swim The Fiji One Piece – (also at Nordstrom + long torso) This is one of Andie Swim’s most popular suits (and for good reason). It’s available in XS-3X and has an option for long torso. The back is suuuper interesting, and you can tighten or loosen it depending on your preference. It also has under-bust elastic for added lift. Shana’s tried + loved the brand, too.
  • Seafolly Active Deep V Plunge Maillot One-Piece Swimsuit – Scotti has this suit, and loves it for a few reasons: it has the deep v that she prefers, but it stays put even in the ocean (those straps in the front and on the back put in the work). It’s not too cheeky for running around with the family, but doesn’t feel dowdy.
  • TA3 Hi Cut Plungey Triangle – This is one of the more wearable TA3 suits that Scotti recently tried out. It has that dramatically sexy shape that TA3 is known for, but a little less intense. And that metallic hardware in the middle sold it for me. Adjustable straps and adjustable back.
  • Cupshe One-Piece Deep V Wire Swimsuit – And for a budget-friendly option, this Cupshe swimsuit is heavily on my radar. It has a wire around the deep v neckline, adjustable straps, and the reviews are great. I was shocked by the consensus on bust support – flattering and enough support without flattening the chest or spillage. Seems to work for longer torso gals, too.

Best Sporty / Active Black One-Piece

For actually swimming, surfing, paddle-boarding…the suit needs to stay PUT. Look for: high necklines or front zips, racerback or thick crossback straps and compression fabric.

  • Andie Swim The Amalfi One Piece Swimsuit – (also at Nordstrom) This is one of Andie Swim’s other best-selling suits. Shana tried this one out before in the ribbed fabric, and it’s one of the most comfortable suits she’s ever worn. The fabric is flattering, soft, comfortable and supportive. Straps are fully adjustable, too.
  • Land’s End D-Cup Tugless X-Back One Piece Swimsuit – I included this one above, but had to include again for the sporty section. A lot of the reviews swear by it for actual laps around the pool and water aerobics. Comes in
D, DD, DDD; reg, petite, plus size, long torso; sizes 6-18.
  • Sea Level Short Sleeve Multifit Front Zip One-Piece Swimsuit – This has been a reader fave suit for years. I especially love that you can adjust the zip for more or less coverage, the short sleeves for covering up the shoulders on super sunny days, and it’s the kinda suit you don’t have to worry about running around the beach in.
  • Tempt Me One-Piece Swim Dress – Another one of our reader faves suits. If you’re looking for something that’ll put in the work but still leans sexy over sporty…this one. The waist tie and straps are adjustable, and it comes in sizes XS-XXL and 18-20. Works for a larger bust, too.

Best Black One-Piece Under $100

You don’t have to spend $200+ to get a great black swimsuit, but you do need to know where to look. Old Navy, J.Crew sale, and Cupshe all have legit options if you know which to grab.

  • GAP Cutout Wrap One-Piece Swimsuit – Amy fell in love with GAP swim years ago, so I had to check out their new styles. Love the tie, wrap-front detail and neckline. Straps are adjustable, too.
  • Cupshe Women Swimsuit One-Piece Bathing Suit – Besides the deep v neckline, the criss-cross back sold me. Not overly modest on the bum, straps are adjustable, the v neckline has a wire for more support, and reviews say it holds everything in place.
  • Adore Me Taryn Swimwear One Piece Swimsuit – I love all the intricate details on this suit (make sure to check out the back). The straps across the back are adjustable and I’d say it has moderate bum coverage.
  • BLEU by Rod Beattie Kore Lace Down Mio One-Piece Swimsuit – I keep coming back to this suit. It looks way more expensive than it is, and I love that the criss-cross details on the front and back are actually metallic. Straps are adjustable and has more coverage on the bum (which, I think levels out the sexiness of the front). Reviews are great, too (including one from a mom who chased her kids around the pool in it, haha).
  • Aerie Strappy Full Coverage One Piece Swimsuit – This is one of Laura’s all-time fave suits. Super affordable considering the quality, and I have to agree – I’ve tried Aerie suits in the past and they’re great. Simple in the front, party in the back.

Best Splurge / Forever Black One-Piece ($150+)

When you splurge for a really nice black suit, you’re paying for fabric that won’t gray, structure that lasts 5+ summers, and details that elevate the whole thing. Worth it for the “I bring this on every vacation” suit.

  • Boden Minori Halter Tie Swimsuit – Boden has great quality suits, and this is the one I keep coming back to. There’s something about that ruched neckline that I think would look SO good on any size chest. You can tighten the straps for the halter style, or even criss-cross them in the front for a different look.
  • Left On Friday Club Suit – Another brand we love for high-quality suits (Laura swears by them). They also have really helpful details on their site for each suit like “best for small to medium boobs” and “medium bum coverage”. I picked this one for the under boob support without a wire (I know some people hate wires), and the higher-leg cut.
  • Seafolly Cross-Back One-Piece Swimsuit – This one’s here for the neckline, thicker straps and criss-cross back. There’s some slight ruching under the boobage, too (which I find supportive and flattering).
  • Norma Kamali Halter One-Piece Swimsuit – If Hollywood glam was a swimsuit, it’s this one. Scotti tried it out and not only loved the glam of it all and luxurious fabric, but she was surprised by how secure it felt. All you need is a wide-brim hat and Audrey Hepburn sunnies.

Check out Laura’s article: Worth It: Left On Friday Swimsuits for our full take on this brand.

Best Plus-Size Black One-Piece

Some of the swimsuits above also come in extended sizing, but I wanted to dedicate a section to my fellow plus-size gals for the real standouts.

  • SPANXsculpt™ Swim Halter One-Piece – We love our Spanx clothing and fabrics over here, so I’m itchinggg to try out their swim line. I love, love, love the neckline on this one and that extra band under the bust. The fabric is intentionally made with all-over comfortable compression that hugs the curves (yes, please!) and has adjustable halter-style straps. This is the sort of classic black one-piece that you can’t go wrong with. She’s timeless and just a little bit sexy.
  • Miraclesuit® Escape One-Piece Swimsuit – I’ve seen these swimsuits everywhere, and every single year they pull me in. They’re designed with curves in mind, so it felt like a no-brainer. My fave details: the keyhole neckline and side ruching. And if you’re looking for more bum coverage, this one has it.
  • Popilush Tie-Side Sculpting One-Piece Swimsuit – This is a newer-to-me brand that I keep coming back to. I can just tell how supportive the bust is with the adjustable straps and the additional strap on the back (that’s kinda like a bra strap). It also has power mesh lining for waist definition, and I’ll never say no to some playful tie details on the hips.
  • Tempt Me One-Piece High Neck Bathing Suit – This budget-friendly suit comes in sizes XXS-XL and 16 plus to 26 plus. The amount of great reviews is what really sold me, but I was immediately drawn to the higher neckline (so chic), ruching and just a littttle peek of skin under the mesh.
  • Dippin’ Daisy’s Bliss One-Piece Swimsuit – Shana tried and loved this suit in the past, and I’ve been tempted ever since. Shana was pretty shocked by how practical it ended up being – it’s much more supportive than it looks.

Black One-Piece Swimsuit FAQ

  • What’s the best black one-piece swimsuit for a large bust? Scotti loves Rip Curl’s D-DD cup suit, and I’ve heard great things about the TA3 Lifty One-Piece Shapewear Swimsuit that has specific cup sizing.
  • Are black swimsuits flattering on everyone? Absolutely, yes. But of course, fit and fabric matter more than the actual color.
  • How do I keep a black swimsuit from fading? Rinse in cold water immediately, avoid hot tubs, don’t wring it out, but you can also look at fabric details; some will let you know if it’s chlorine-resistant fabric.
  • What’s the best black swimsuit for postpartum tummies? Julieta found this blouson style to be super flattering for postpartum, and Scotti and I recommend J.Crew’s Ruched V-Neck One-Piece.
  • Are expensive black swimsuits worth it? If you’re looking for a “good enough” suit those exist in the budget-friendly brands. But if you’re looking for longevity, some of the expensive suits are definitely made with better quality fabrics and details.

I’d love to hear which one-piece black swimsuit you guys swear by, too!
