Hello and welcome to what is (arguably!) the most exciting part of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: the COATS. (Or, at the very least, my favorite part.)
Whether I’m in need of a classic wool coat, a waterproof rain jacket, or just something fun (maybe plaid? Maybe printed?) I usually have luck at the NSale – and this has been true for many years. Not to mention there’s always plenty of everyday jackets to choose from (barn jackets, denim jackets, windbreakers, etc).
Unlike the NSale cashmere sweater selection (which always seems to break my heart, haha), the coat selection has remained consistently pretty stellar. And this year’s? Between all of the Barbour and the freaking fantastic selection of real leather jackets (a much-needed departure from moto jackets)…it’s GOOD.
The Best Coats In The 2026 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: Leather, Trench, Wool, Barn & More
Our plan is to constantly update this post as the team tries things on and learns more. That said, there’s a few gems we were thrilled to see back in the sale (one of my most-worn raincoats is back!), and a few new pieces that caught our eye.
The Best Trench Coats In The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
This is the category we always check first, because a great trench earns its keep all year long. Throw it over jeans, over a dress, over basically anything – it’s the kind of piece that makes an outfit look finished without any effort.
1. Barbour Hebrides Waterproof Long Coat

This waterproof trench is freaking amazing. I bought it last year, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite pieces. It vibes like a trench (feels like one, too), but with a more forgiving, slightly swingy shape, and layers beautifully over thick sweaters. The hood is detachable, and I love that it can be fastened up with either buttons or the zipper (having both is a really nice touch – and the place brands often cut corners). It’s also legitimately waterproof.
I love this thing so much that I actually compared it to my Burberry Trench Coat. While my Burberry is gorgeous, if I had to do it all over again…this Barbour is the one I’d buy.

This Theory coat is juuuust as soft and gorgeous as I had hoped…but they went in a very oversized-menswear-inspired direction (which is, admittedly, cool and totally on trend)…but it does not work on my short self.

Rain jackets have quietly gotten really good – cute colors, real shapes, actually wind-resistant. This is the sale to finally replace the sad one you’ve had since…forever.

This one is lightweight – it’s thinner than the other Barbour jackets, but soft and comfortable to wear. It’s a little more windbreaker-y than the Hebrides, but not overly swishy. If you let the drawstring all the way out, the coat actually has an A-line, almost-swingy shape.

This fabric is really lightweight and soft, and we’re pretty sure it won’t block ANY kind of wind. That said…it’s really freaking comfortable to wear, and so darn cute.

I LOVED this one. First of all, the khaki is the perfect neutral hue to go with all my denim. I love the back flap + cinch detail. Also, the hood is removable so it can look more4 like a cropped trench. Not a bad price, either!

Barbour’s boxy waxed coats are icons for a reason. I’ve had & loved a similar style for years (I travel with it alllll the time + it never lets me down). This one is simple without any extra details besides the usual corduroy collar and I love it. They stand the test of time, too.

Yes to all the Barbour coats. I’ve never tried this quilted style so I was so excited to pull it IRL. It’s great. Lightweight, warm enough, with a cute oversized collar, long enough sleeves, 3 pretty colors. It’s a win.

Yeah, we can’t stop it with the Barbour jackets. We are just genuinely in love with so. many. The Maude adds a bit more length than the rest (yay for coverage!) and that light brown is just the perfect hue for both fall & spring outfits. Those details, too.
The Best Wool & Warm Coats In The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
If you’re going to spend a little more on one thing this sale, make it a wool coat. It’s the piece that instantly upgrades everything you wear it with, and at these prices, it’s an easy yes.

Reiss wool-blend coats are an NSale favorite year after year, and this rich deep teal is such a fun change from the usual camel or gray. Like always, this coat is soft, warm, and beautifully made. Note that it’s darker in person than it is online, though. Also, this coat is a little more tailored than Reiss’s wrap coats so size up if you like more room under the arms.

Shana and Linzi both love this puffer (which ended up being a total surprise on shopping day). It has a cozy wool & cashmere outer, but the inside is completely insulated (it is a lightweight down puffer in disguise), and the lining is slippery, so it layers easily over other woolly sweaters. The Camel is sold out, but the Navy is fully stocked.

“Sculptural and softly structured”, says the description. Deliciousssss. Shana found this one after we combed through what we thought were ALL of the coats and we felt like we struck gold. I MEAN? Cape silhouette. Built-in scarf drape. Extremely warm 100% wool that’s ALSO really soft. Oversized pockets. Wide sleeves. It’s a beauty.

This jacket was super soft and great quality, but it was a bit much for Linzi’s personal style. So, might still work for you if you love a scarf coat.

We ended up loving this thing. S said, “It’s an absolute stunner.” While this puffer reads chic, it is, in fact, an honest-to-goodness down-filled puffer jacket…that just happens to come in two very sophisticated colors. The removable knit collar vibes French Girl and we honestly can’t decide which color we like better. The feel of the fabric is something between canvas and windbreaker, and it’s incredibly comfortable.
The sizing is pretty forgiving, too. S tried it on in medium (in the brown) and a size small (in the ivory). Both work!

I love the idea of this jacket paired with jeans & a silky cami, trousers & a blouse or even over a dress? I’d be taking the collar off in the fall but it’d be the cutest touch when it gets chilly. The black color was definitely our fave.
The Best Leather & Suede Jackets in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
These add instant cool-girl polish to whatever you pair them with, and they only look better as they age. If you’ve been eyeing one, sale pricing makes it a much easier call. This was one of our absolute favorite categories this year.

This is the soft, swingy leather jacket we’re the most excited about! The sleeves are GORGEOUS, and the slouchy cut itself feels really fresh. AllSaints makes really high-quality leather jackets, and we love how this particular color will look amazing with both black and/or brown accessories. The suede is soft, supple, and overall this jacket feels like it’ll be warm, even in the winter (layered over sweaters).

This, online, reminds me of my Reformation leather bomber…but perhaps even…better? The reviews on this piece (it’s one of LaMarque’s best sellers) are great, and I love that there’s a quilted liner inside, making this a really warm piece, too. This shape of jacket (an oversized bomber) looks freaking amazing with dresses, too. Pieces like this are some of my favorites, just because they’re so darn useful. The thing is, it’s HUGE (actually HUMONGOUS), so keep that in mind.
