High-Rise Denim Shorts That Actually Look Good On Curvy Bodies

If you saw my recent denim shorts post, you know I’m not exactly enamored with high-rise denim shorts. High-rise jeans, yes, but I had yet to find a pair of high-rise denim cut-offs that I actually liked. Until now. Leave it to one of my go-to brands for all things curvy—Good American—to come up with some seriously flattering shorts for curvy bodies. One reviewer said, “unless you have a nice round booty and thick thighs, these do nothing for you.” YES. They fit around your waist without squeezing your butt and thighs like so many other shorts. And one of my favorite things about this brand is their inclusivity in sizing. Not only do they carry sizes from 00-24, but they have models in all of those sizes to show what each size looks like (see pic below). SO good.

    • Hey there Darlene – Scotti IS pretty skinny. But the girl does have a bigger bum and hips (in relation to the rest of her tiny self). And the shorts that she’s featuring? Are shown on the retailer’s website modeled by women with varying degrees of curvy body types. Scotti included a few of those pics as well (scroll up), but click through the links if you’d like to see more curvy body types.

  1. This is the kind of curvy I am. After kids, body parts are in a different place than they were before. Shapely hips and thighs but smaller waist. It doesn’t feel like the high waist trend helps this issue, but focusing on keeping your pants up by relying on hips and waist rather than squeezing the life out of your thighs works for me. I’m anti-shorts but I’ll try some Good American jeans for sure. Always on the hunt.

  2. Um, “curvy” is not the same thing as “plus sized”. You can be petite, thin, short, tall, whatever, and still be curvy. Curvy is a reference to one’s proportions, not weight. Mainstream fashion brands tend to design for traditionally anglo saxon bodies that have modest proportions. Those of us that are more asstastic, have more defined waists, and bigger thighs have trouble finding pants and shorts that fit and are flattering. Thanks for the article Scotti!

  3. Those shorts are very cute on you! I bought one of the other pairs you linked. Great quality and soft, but the waist was hella small. So maybe I’m not the right type of curvy lol. Anyway the only other draw back was the shorts were made in China. So that was the main turn off, and I did not try the size up. $129 is way to much for shorts made in China even if they were good quality. JUST my opinion!
