Ah…the unofficial start to summer. Memorial Day Weekend — and Memorial Day Sales! We’re starting to peek our heads outdoors now that the weather’s getting nice, and we’re taking in all the rays we can. Anyone else excited for all the summer things? The sun, warmth, more time outdoors, reuniting with friends and family — even if it is on our own stoops and patios or backyard oases, or for family vacations, holiday gatherings, and adventurous excursions.

We’re cleaning off grills for barbecues, stocking up on summer cocktail ingredients, decking out patios, and eyeing our summer outfit essentials — cut-off shorts, sandals, dramatic sundresses for lounging and cute bralettes that peek out from tank tops. Speaking of which, we’re also searching for them on sale. So let’s get to it.

And Our Place is our fave spot for reliable bakeware and cookware (the best pans EVER).

A bit of tech in the home can help make life easier. Easy cleanup with a Dyson vacuum or voice activated tech for the moments our hands are totally full but we just need to know the answer to a random question (or want to video call grandma in a pinch). We typically get our home tech on Amazon, but Target and Nordstrom have some great finds, too. If allergies are destroying you this year, Molekule’s air purifiers are life-changing.

Oh, the thought of traveling around with a fresh new suitcase in hand. Maybe some of you already have that special trip planned for the summer or are getting ready for all the planning. Either way, Saks Fifth Avenue has some gorgeous luggage (that could probably double as an accessory), but Paravel’s sale is the one that’s got our attention. This luggage is some of our favorites.

Any season of the year you can find one of our contributors out and about in the great outdoors. Sometimes it’s rugged mountain hiking, sometimes it’s a bit more…glamorous camping. No matter what, we got the right gear for the type of trip. Backcountry is a reliable go-to, but Target and L.L. Bean has some good stuff, too.

As mentioned above, our contribs are quite the outdoorsy type. This means you can usually count on at least one of us hiking around on the mountains and pretty trails. And we take our hiking very seriously…AKA we stock up on the best hiking gear we can find. If you’re looking for the best hiking backpacks, Cotopaxi is a fave brand (for the kids, too). For hiking boots, other backpack brands, water bottles, or the best outdoor jackets, we usually look through Backcountry, REI and The North Face.

Barbecue season’s officially here! Maybe the perfect time to upgrade those essentials? Definitely check out Backcountry for anything your in-home grill master needs. For all the basic essentials, Target and Amazon are some old reliables, too. 

Best Patio & Outdoor Furniture

The front porch, back porch, patio, pool deck, big ol’ firepit refresh is here. When you’re spending all your time outside, it’s totally worth making it as comfy as your living room, right? Target has some reaaally good finds (and bangs for your buck) but CB2, Serena & Lily and Wayfair also has pretty upgrades.

We’ve got all the beach essentials covered — beach towels, umbrellas, coolers, speakers, etc etc. Because nothing is gonna ruin our beach day! We typically get our beach stuffs from Backcountry, Target or Amazon, but don’t miss out on Walmart’s selection, too. 

Best Beach Bags

Because where is one to put all the beach essentials? I think a cute new beach bag might just do the trick. Our reliable Nordstrom and Clare V. has the cutest selection as per, but Shopbop and Saks often have special beach bag finds, too. We also spotted some pretty, inexpensive beach bags at Target. 

Best Sunglasses

You can typically find us finishing off any outfit with a nice pair of sunnies (with an extra pair in our bag…just in case…). Nordstrom is a go-to (surprise!), but if you’re looking for more designer styles — Saks Fifth Avenue has it all and Saks Off 5th has designers for less. For technical, outdoor/sporty pairs we’ll head to Backcountry. 

Best Swim

If you’re in the market for some new suits now that summertime is quickly approaching, we’ve got you covered. J.Crew has always been a favorite, and Nordstrom is never short of choices and brands we love like Andie Swim or Becca. Reformation brought their swim line back this year and it’s gorgeous (crossing our fingers it’ll go on sale). Solid & Striped never fails to bring out the prettiest swimsuits each year, too.

We love a good sandal for summer. BUT they can’t be the ones that are only pretty to look at. We want walkable, comfortable sandals we can walk miles in. Nordstrom and Zappos carry a ton of our fave sandal brands like Sorel, Beek, Tevas and Birkenstock. Backcountry has some sporty styles that keep the comfort, but we’ve really been loving Jenni Kayne (especially the tan sandals) recently, too. 

Best Denim Shorts

Levi’s | Good American | Saks Off 5th | Nordstrom | Saks Fifth Avenue | GAP | Abercrombie

Ah, denim shorts. The love/hate relationship with these things. We feel pretty strongly about what denim short styles and brands we like. Comfort and practicality are key. We usually have some luck with classic Levi’s and the size range at Good American is something worth noting (as is the quality). Saks Off 5th, Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue often carry our other fave brands like AGOLDE, AG and FRAME. For more inexpensive options, we’ve been loving GAP and Abercrombie.

Some of you know our fondness for summer dresses already — all things flowy and flouncy, really. When summertime comes around, it quickly becomes the comfortable, heat-proof closet staple we need. Saks Off 5th, Nordstrom, Saks and Shopbop carry a ton of brands we love. If you’re looking for a versatile range of pretty options, Anthro never fails to give us some inspo. Our fave of the entire bunch, though? We might have to say Reformation…they’re always reliable and some of our most-loved summer dresses. Small business Social Threads always comes out with some really fun dresses, too.

Sometimes we just want a cute summer top to brighten up our wardrobes. Nothing wrong with that, right? And of course, Nordstrom carries a lot of our fave brands for pretty tops.

Huge denim gals over here with lots of opinions on the subject. We can usually find some of our fave brands (Levi’s, AGOLDE, Good American, etc etc) on sale during Memorial Day weekend. Sound the trumpets! Nordstrom, Saks Off 5th and Saks Fifth Avenue carry those brands and more of our faves, too. Social Threads also carries our beloved Risen jeans. Nothing more motivating than a new cute workout set. (And one that stands the test against sweat and allll the activities). Naturally, we like to feel a little stylish when we workout. Some of our fave brands are Athleta and Lululemon but Nordstrom carries our other fave brands, too (like Zella). For some designer options, check out Saks.

Oh, handbags. The fashion item we just cannot resist. Do we need? Maybe not. But, there’s a good chance we’ll scoop one up during sale periods. They can completely change up a look and add that little bit of spice that’s sometimes missing. Plus, everyone likes to casually peruse the Clare V. bags, right? We typically head to Nordstrom, Shopbop and Saks Fifth Avenue, but Madewell and J.Crew carry some really cute options, too.

We’ve been on the hunt for the perfect sneakers for years. They’re the must-have item in our closets that we’ll wear with almost anything — flowy dresses, graphic tees and distressed denim, soft shorts and a pretty top…the list goes on. Zappos, Nordstrom and Saks carry a lot of our fave brands (like Adidas and Nike). We can often rely on Dick’s Sporting Goods to have a lot of those Adidas sellouts in stock, too.

Once that summer weather kicks in, you can typically count on our makeup, skincare and haircare routines switching up a bit. We like anything that’ll give us that sun-kissed, dewy glow like we’ve been sitting outside all day and not stuck inside by a screen, and anything that keeps that humidity hair at bay. Sephora and Ulta carry a lot of the beauty brands we love, but every year we head to Colleen Rothschild and Biossance for a skincare restock. For haircare and all the beauty tools, we like to shop Nordstrom’s selection, but sometimes we’ll shop their makeup, too (especially Charlotte Tilbury).
