Heading out the door for a holiday party, I went to grab a coat only to realize my coat closet was in desperate need of some “dressing up.”  It was jammed full of snow gear, parkas, and several moto and denim jackets but nothing “dressy.”  I’ve spent the last few years building up my Michigan Winter Survival Outerwear Collection (it’s a thing) and have only had a moto jacket to rely on for those dressier occasions. I’m too old and too cranky to freeze every time I go out. This year, that ends. I went on the hunt for a nice coat that was classy AND warm. Enter: the timeless camel coat.

I can admit that my style is a tinsy bit ‘extra’ sometimes. I’m drawn to bright colors, bold styles, interesting detail over simple, classic styles. But over time I’ve realized that the simple, classic items in my closet last well past the swift expiration date of the trend-driven pieces I’ve always loved to buy. The first time I put on the camel coat, I understood why it’s ‘timeless.’

Outfit Deets

Coat – Madewell’s Atlas Cocoon Coat, 30% off for $233.50 – So, unfortunately my coat is sold out but I’ve scoured the internet for the best camel coats out there, I’m basically a camel coat expert at this point. Madewell’s is the most similar to mine and honestly, nicer.

Sweater – Free People’s Lover Split Back Pullover, $68.00 – All about oversized knitwear. I’ve have different slouchy sweaters in white, black and grey and I’ve just been rotating through them lately.

Pants – [BLANKNYC]’s Lace-Up Skinny Vegan Leather Leggings, $94.99 – $118.00 – I bought these for the Holiday season last year and LOVE them. They look exactly like leather and they fit so well.  They have just enough stretch to allow for movement without sagging or stretching out at all.

Booties – STEVEN by Steve Madden’s Bennet Booties, $88.49 – Still obsessed with my burgundy booties that I gushed over in my last post. I’ve been wearing them more than my black booties as of late and they go with everything just as well as black.
