Shop Conscious

I once went to Paris - for three weeks - with only a carry-on suitcase.  I love packing.  My love stems in part from the excitement of the trip itself, but also because packing is the ultimate puzzle: suduko and jigsaw rolled into one. YESSS. (Unpacking, however, UGH.  Don't get me started.) So I was pretty excited when my friend Bella, of...
I'm so thrilled to be featuring Bela Shehu, a dear friend and the wildly talented designer behind NINObrand. NINObrand is Bela's ready to wear collection, and is, to quote Philly Magazine, "chic enough to be in Paris, edgy enough to be in London, and luxe enough to be in Milan," yet is 100% made (and designed) in the USA. I'm a...
The #TMEStyleChallenge is the perfect hack for upgrading the clothes you already have with new ideas. On to Week 3: Oversized Chic. Show us your take!
One of my very favorite online retailers, Zady, is offering 25% off through Dec 6th with code THOUGHTFUL. Zady's mission is simple:  to create a company around ethically made clothing with inspiring style.  Their online shop feels like a thoughtfully curated boutique, and last year they started adding pieces of their own design.  Their full line includes several drool-worthy sweaters, on-point tshirts, and...
I love pretend play and dress-up, but I'm not a big Halloween fan.  I mean sure...if babies are involved, I'm ALL in.  I dressed R up as a bee, and remember Pax the chicken?  Yeah - that's my kind of Halloween dress-up.  But as soon as they get old enough to form their own opinions, I find myself trying...
There's a feeling of continuity, when you have kids, that wasn't there before.  Once I looked into Raines' face for the first time, everything changed.  I realized that I would never be able to look at anyone again without - at some level - acknowledging that they too came from someone.  They have a mother, and a father and...
Happy Earth Week! As kids, Earth Day was the day when we were taught the three R's of environmentalism: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. As a mother, I still believe in these basics, but I'm actually starting to sweat the mess we are leaving to our children. We should be applying the simplicity of the three R's to our daily lives...
If you're like me, your medicine cabinet is filled with some long-time favorite cosmetic standbys as well as a rotating crew of new products. I generally base my picks on trusted peer reviews or amazing packaging/marketing (what can I say? I'm a sucker for a pretty label) and I keep my beauty routine as simple as possible. Before...
The following is part of a series of posts by contributing author Lane about a few fabulous handmade alternatives to the usual mass-produced baby items.  Also see her articles on handmade alternatives for baby slings and carriers, shopping cart covers, and nursing covers.   Teethers I don't even have my baby in hand yet, but from what I'm told by...
For any mother-to-be who plans on nursing, or moms who breastfeed currently, modesty while breastfeeding in public can be an issue. While some women feel comfortable whipping it all out in any setting, and I do truly say more power to them seeing as it is pretty much the most natural act imaginable, others are a little more booby shy. And that's where a nursing cover comes in. After receiving a handmade nursing cover as a gift from a friend, I realized that while there are commercial versions like the Bebe au Lait Hooters Hider $35, from diapers.com (is it me, or is that name kind of...lacking in taste?)...I personally think you'll find a broader selection of gorgeous covers on Etsy with the bonus of being handmade or even customized to your specifications. Behold just a few of my favorites.....
While I was on my epic search for a diaper bag, I ended up with an Etsy product that I LOVE, and my many previous experiences with Etsy sellers keep me coming back for more. Once I read the laundry list of baby items to search for, I knew I would be spending several hours (a day?) scouring Etsy's shops until everything was checked off. The results are a series of posts sharing the fruits of all my VERY hard work with you, with alternatives to popular slings and wraps kicking things off.
