Let’s talk about the fall/winter trend that I can’t stop thinking about.
Chocolate brown.
The chocolate brown trend is unapologetically luxe and rich looking and until now, criminally underutilized in my wardrobe. As much as this color calls to me, I actually don’t have much of it in my closet. And I have no excuse for glazing over it for so long! I mean, I’ve got a ton of tan, camel, black…but not much brown.
This just makes me extra excited to dream up multiple ways to incorporate chocolate brown into my closet with a fall & early winter vibe.
How To Wear The Chocolate Brown Trend This Fall & Winter
What’s great about chocolate brown is you can dress it up (like a suede leather jacket or a sleek, midi satin slip dress) or, you can dress it down (in the coziest high-quality sweats ever or a cool, puffy north face jacket) and you’ll always end up looking like a million bucks. Here are six different ways I’d work chocolate brown into my wardrobe.
Outfit 1: Everyday Neutrals
One of the great things about chocolate brown is how well it pairs with other neutrals (like tan & ivory). Take this ultra-soft Everlane half-zip sweater and these drool-worthy suede moto boots from J.Crew, you can easily balance them by pairing them with tan: like this Rag and Bone suede sling bag and Everlane tee.

NOTES: Everlane’s Half-Zip is made from 100% organic cotton, and features a relaxed fit and a chunky ribbed knit. Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention one of my favorite eyeshadow palettes of all time that is perfect for all things chocolate brown this season: MAC Cosmetic’s Connect in Color 12-Pan Eyeshadow Palette. It’s 15% off right now at Nordstrom.
Outfit 2: Swap Your Black For Brown This Date Night
How stunning is this chocolate brown satin midi dress by Madewell?? I think it’s way past time for me to add it to my wardrobe – it’s just as versatile as any black satin midi and a subtle way to stop people in their tracks this season. It is an easy win for a great holiday event statement dress that says everything without overdoing it.

NOTES: Just like a chocolate brown satin midi is as versatile as black satin midi, I firmly believe these Stevie Suede Pull-on boots from J.Crew would be JUST as versatile and easy to wear as a black pair of knee-high boots. You could also easily pair black suede boots with a brown satin midi and vice-versa all season long.
Outfit 3: Let’s Talk About This Suede Jacket
This is the outfit I’m coveting most. I just. want. everything. on my body right now. Madewell’s Stitch-Collar Shirt-Jacket in chocolate suede might be the most perfect jacket I’ve seen lately. I also want The Sak’s Los Feliz Large Tote bag and BOTH pairs of Steve Madden boots, please and thank you.

NOTES: I have the triple buckle Steve Madden moto boots pictured above in black and I am currently kicking myself that I didn’t see the chocolate brown version. I sized up a half a size to an 8 and they fit perfectly. I’ve gotten so many compliments on them already this year.
Outfit 4: Start With Some Chocolate Brown Pants
Pick your poison…aka: pick your favorite pair of chocolate brown pants: these amazing carpenter-inspired barrel jeans I am currently ogling by SER.O.YA, the coated denim Joe jeans that Julieta is longtime a fan of or the Citizens of Humanity corduroys that Emily swears by.

NOTES: Easily pair any of the above pants with Free People’s oversized Swim Too Deep Turtleneck Sweater for a perfect everyday casual go-to look. (Oh, and the sweater is currently 30% off at Nordstrom.)
Outfit 5: A Dynamic Duo: Chocolate Brown & Black
Who says you can’t pair brown with black? I don’t know where I got the notion that you can’t wear black and brown together pummeled into my head (it was probably some early ’00s Cosmopolitan Magazine article) but it’s 2024 ya’ll, and you will catch me wearing black and brown together!

NOTES: By far one of the coziest looks of the six outfits I put together. Both the Hydrenalite Hooded Down North Face jacket and these Brisbane Waterproof Chelsea Platform Ugg boots are currently sitting in my cart and calling my name.
Outfit 6: All Comfy Cozy
Frank & Eileen came through with their coziest chocolate brown Patrick Popover sweatshirt and their Catherine Crop Wide-Leg Sweatpants and I’m in love. This outfit is another example of pairing warm neutrals together — I especially love how this set works with this russet brown Veronica Beard Mixed Media jacket I have been coveting forever.

NOTES: Both the sweatshirt and sweatpants are made from 100% cotton, and are high-quality weighted triple fleece.
I hope you enjoyed this ode to chocolate brown as much as I enjoyed creating it! Until next time,
