Concert Outfits You’ll Want to Wear All Summer

Here’s the reader question we’re taking on:

Hi Team!
I was hoping you could help! My husband and I are heading to Denver over 4th of July weekend (KID-FREE) to see my fave band play at Red Rocks…twice! I am insanely excited, but I want to pack as little as possible.
And, naturally I would like to look cute/fun/not trying too hard at the concerts.
We’re going to see The Avett Brothers…if you don’t know them, check them out and prepare to fall in love!
Many thanks – Katie : )
KATIEEEE! I have this same issue for every dang concert, including the two times I’ve seen The Avett Brothers with my husband (and yes, they were amazing!). I don’t know why it’s so hard! I’m going to make sure you (and anyone else with upcoming concerts/festivals) has outfit options that are comfortable and stylish, withstand the elements, and don’t get in the way of dancing all night. All of that without packing a ton, per Katie’s request, which I totally get.

3 Concert Outfit Ideas Perfect For Summer

Red Rocks Amphitheatre is such a beautiful venue, but it does present some outfit challenges we’ll want Katie to be prepared for:
  1. I’m told it’s quite a hike from parking to the actual entrance. Comfortable shoes are a must, even the venue site stresses that. My mind immediately goes to comfy fashion sneakers.
  2. As with virtually any amphitheater, you’ll want to be prepared for temperature changes. The average high/low temps this time of year are about 86/52 degrees. It may be warm and sunny when the concert gets started at 7:30 p.m. local time, but you’d sure get chilly quick two or three hours later if not dressed appropriately. So, I’ll help out with light layers.
  3. I think we’re all pretty used to the fact that venues either ban bags altogether or have restrictions. Red Rocks is pretty accommodating in that the bag just has to be soft (you know, so security can squish everything) and no larger than 12″x12.” I can definitely work with that!
OK, now that we’ve got our ground rules, let’s get into these outfit options.

I’m With The Band: Distressed Denim + Graphic Tank

If Katie is the type of gal who wants to sneak backstage, she’ll need to wear lots of black to fit in. Add a graphic tank, and top it off with a few red accessories to stand out from the crowd just enough.

Travel Staples: Striped Maxi Dress + Denim Jacket

Katie doesn’t want to pack a ton, so a relaxed maxi dress is a great option that she could travel in AND wear to the concert. A denim jacket is a great travel staple, especially for cooler evenings; the one I found has the prettiest embroidered details. Keep it summery and sporty with classic sneaks, a colorful straw bag, and sunnies that everyone happens to be obsessing over. What to wear to a concert? Summer Stunner: Printed Joggers + Tie-Dye Tank

You didn’t think I’d do this whole post without mixing prints somewhere, did you? I was on the fence with the tie-dye trend this summer, but this tank really makes me love it. With the muted tones, it’s a great mix to style with printed joggers.

Katie, thanks for writing; let me know which outfit/pieces you like and end up trying. I’d love to see how you style it! Bonus points for any pics taken at Red Rocks! I may need to get a few of these items myself for all the local concerts/festivals I’m attending, AND…wait for it…my husband and I are going to the Khalid concert next month. I can’t wait! Tell me in the comments the concerts on your calendar this summer.  Follow me over on Instagram so you can see what I end up wearing!

  1. Love these suggestions! I will say that I have to wear closed shoes to concerts. I can’t stand being in huge crowds in open shoes and my feet getting dirty. It’s definitely a weird, personal quirk. ??‍♀️ I always go with cute sneakers or comfortable ankle booties. It’s not a big concert summer for us, sadly. I think just Squeeze and probably Tyler the Creator (#bestmomever). Have fun at yours!

    • Ha, good point about the closed toes…some venues can get a bit gnarly. But yes, you are absolutely the best mom ever! Glad you got your hands on some of the Jeni’s X Tyler ice cream collab to round out your concert experience!
