Ditch Your Black Coat And Skinny Jeans For This

Are you a black-everything-outfit lover? I am, and have been for most of my life. But, about a year ago I started getting tired of it. It has to do with this book I read about color and style. My style took a 180-degree turn. I still love my black ensembles, but now I don’t feel my personality is shining through when I’m wearing tons of black.
When it’s warm, everybody tends to wear more color, but when cold? Yeah, we all turn to our blacks and dark neutrals. My winter wardrobe was all black, navy and some grey. But not anymore. I said to myself “if I’m going to change what I wear when it’s cold, it has to start with outerwear, accessories, shoes.” So here it is! I’m still wearing black under. #babysteps
More than simply color, I’m challenging all the winter staples — black puffer coat, black boots, skinny jeans — and went all the opposite. Take a look:

Black is a classic outfit-maker, but when we're looking to SHINE, we can add some color, change the silhouette — & throw out a few basics. Let's do this! • Instead of a black puffer, try a red coat with a leather jacket layered under and the same color scarf.
  • Instead of skinny jeans, try wide leg jeans. Bonus: you can layer warm tights underneath.
  • Instead of black boots, try gold boots.
  • Last thing! Get yourself a turtleneck bodysuit!

What do you think? I want to challenge you to brighten up that winter wardrobe and feel awesome.

The Outfit

Coat – 40% off. Lightweight but warm coat. The boiled wool makes it warm without all the weight. Everybody needs this coat in one color. I got mine last year, and it’s been so worth it. More red coats below:

Scarf – This is a 98% Italian wool scarf. Did you see that little hole? it helps you wrap it around easier. Comes in two more colors.

Turtleneck – This is a bodysuit and a great layering piece. Only available in navy. But if you’re looking for more colors try this Free People one in all the colors.

Boots – 40% off! Only 4 days! My second post showcasing these. Most comfortable boots I own. Available in burgundy and on sale here.

Jeans – They are the perfect wide leg jeans. PERFECT! They are flattering on the butt and then go wide. Most wide legs don’t fit very flattering on the butt, but these do. I’m between sizes and went down. They are rigid denim but as most rigid denim, they loosen up with wear. Or you can break them in like I did here. More favorites below:

PS: If you don’t follow me on IG, I want you to know that I just got a tummy tuck to fix my muscles, hernia and skin. I feel that it’s important to share my journey. So you can find me over at (@julietatorresd). There’s also a lot of high-rise jeans, athleisure, and a raw and vulnerable take on motherhood. I believe social media shouldn’t be for the good things only.
