Gang! Saks’ Friends & Family sale is happening now, which is one of my favorite sales for denim. Not only are a ton of new styles marked down, but there’s no minimum spend: it’s 25% off a whole slew of cute jeans.
I do have a bone to pick with Saks, tho. When I was doing my (admittedly late night) order, I did NOT see this epic pair of wide-leg jeans (with that denim belt whaaa??) or these, uh…tuxedo jeans(??) by Joe’s – a pair I’ve been wanting to try for a while. So neither of them are included in my below try-on. I don’t know how I missed either of those pairs, but I blame Saks’ search [she says confidently, without a shred of evidence to back her up].
Designer Denim, On Sale: 9 Cool Pairs of Wide-Leg Jeans From AG, Mother, AGoldE, Rag&Bone + More
Some details about me: I’m 5’3″, and typically wear a size 27 in *most* jeans, a size 6 in Reformation dresses, and a size 2 or 4 in J.Crew dresses. I hate when anything is too tight on my stomach, and while I love the look of rigid denim, I really only wear jeans that are soft. I especially love jeans that are a little interesting – a great wash, a trouser pocket, some cool detail, etc.
Let’s get into it:
1. My Top Pick: AG Stella Wide-Leg Trouser Jeans
top (s) | jeans (27) | boots | earrings | bracelets (m)
FIT DETAILS: 32.5″ inseam, jeans run big overall
NOTES: First of all, Saks has the wrong photo – if you click the link above, it looks like you are buying a different pair of jeans. Annoying, but the pair I’m wearing is the pair you will get. Which, honestly, is better – this was my favorite pair in this entire try-on, and the photo mix-up might be why they’re still fully stocked. So…yay?
Anyway, these jeans are bananas soft, and I think they’re a tad longer than the listed 32.5″ inseam. They also have some really cool trouser details, and a perfect dark wash: not too dark, and just…interesting. Honestly this is one of the things I’ve always loved about AG – their washes are better than most, in that kinda-broken-in kind of way.

Stick with your normal size if you want a slouchy trouser feel, or go down a size if you want these a little more fitted. If you’re petite, these would hem beautifully (that’s the benefit of the trouser cut – it’s wide all the way down), or you could try cuffing them:
top (s) | jeans (27) | boots | earrings | bracelets (m)
Cute, right? If I were to wear them cuffed, I’d crisp up that hem a bit, and keep the cuff secure using this stitch gun (and then simply cut out the stitches when done).
2. The Classic Date-Night Pair: Mother The Hustler Flared Jeans
top (s) | jeans (27) | boots | earrings | bracelets (m)
FIT DETAILS: 32″ inseam, jeans are TTS (or, compared to other Mother Denim jeans, run a tiny bit big)
NOTES: Another suuuper soft pair of jeans, they’re sexy and tight without being too squeezy on my stomach. Once again, I love this sort of in-between, blue wash, and the white stitching makes the whole thing feel pretty fresh. These jeans are a true high-rise pair of jeans – they fully cover my belly button, and I could wear a crop top out at night with zero fear. The bum’s good, too:

Once again, because they’re more wide-leg than flare, they’ll hem nicely. Just get this girl some heels!
3. Best Jeans For The Tall: AGoldE Dame Wide-Leg Cuffed Jeans
top (s) | jeans (26) | boots | earrings | bracelets (m)
FIT DETAILS: 32.5″ inseam, jeans run one size big
NOTES: Ahhh…the jeans that broke my heart. These seriously cool jeans are 100% cotton, but soft and comfortable enough (and AGoldE does soften up over time). The cuffs are stitched on, which means they’re not going anywhere, but I’d also need a tailor to get these to fit properly. However, the one big beef I have is that they’re too high-waisted on my short-waisted self. You can see them skrunch at the back:

top (s) | jeans (26) | boots | earrings | bracelets (m)
Granted, this might just be a me problem, but still.
4. For The 90’s Girl: Rag&Bone Featherweight Sofie Wide-Leg Jeans
top (s) | jeans (26) | boots | earrings | bracelets (m)
FIT DETAILS: 33″ inseam, jeans run HUGE
NOTES: Alrighty then. These soft, pajama-like jeans run so big I was…confused. I knew to size down one full size because I own other featherweight jeans (this exact pair), so color me surprised when I put these on. That said…I don’t hate it? Part of the issue is the length (obviously), but the 90’s girl in me wonders what these would be like just, ya know, slouching off my hips.
top (s) | jeans (26) | boots | earrings | bracelets (m)
I mean. It’s not no.
5. Best Skinny Jean Replacement: Mother Tomcat Roller Sneak Wide-Leg Jeans
top (s) | jeans (27) – more sizes here | boots | earrings | bracelets (m)
FIT DETAILS: 32″ inseam, jeans run TTS
NOTES: These are what I like to think of as classic Mother Denim: a little sexy and maybe a little too tight (but you don’t care because they’re super soft and the wash is cute). Also, the bum is giving skinny jean vibes:

I just realized these are sold out at Saks…hold please…yeah, ok: Bloomies also has them, 25% off!
6. Help Me Decide: Alice + Olivia Trish Mr. Baggy Jeans (in Floral)
top (s) | jeans (27) | boots | earrings | bracelets (m)
FIT DETAILS: 34.5″ inseam, jeans run TTS
NOTES: I have been drooling over these jeans all summer. And now? Now I am unsure. While I love the print – it’s quirky enough to feel like a unique, cool piece rather than a trendy item – it’s the low rise that makes me hesitate. That said, these jeans would be gorgeous with gray, cashmere sweaters in the winter, and white linen tanks in the summer – two of my favorite things. Hmmm.

These jeans need a little more playtime in my closet before I can decide (aka how do they look with black turtleneck sweaters?). Talk to me, people. Thoughts?
7. The Best Affordable Designer: Good American Good Waist Palazzo Jeans
top (s) | jeans (4) | boots | earrings | bracelets (m)
FIT DETAILS: 33″ inseam, jeans run TTS
NOTES: Per usual for GA, these jeans are cute, stretchy, and soft. There’s really nothing easier than Good American. My only issue is that I was hoping for more…pow! with the stitching detail. It’s so cool, but ended up getting a little lost once I put them on.
But the bum’s cute!

8. Cute Cropped Jeans: Rag & Bone Andi High Rise Cuffed Ankle Jeans
top (s) | jeans (27) | boots | earrings | bracelets (m)
FIT DETAILS: 31″ inseam, jeans run TTS
NOTES: Unlike their featherweight collection, this is old school Rag&Bone, and, per usual, the wash is gorgeous and the fit is great (TTS, too). I love these jeans with heels, and I suspect they’d look great with flat sandals, too. (Is this foreshadowing? Yes, yes it is.)
My only issue is that we’re heading into winter. And while there’s no doubt that these jeans could be worn with all sorts of boots…standing between me and boot weather is sneaker weather.
top (s) | jeans (27) | boots | earrings | bracelets (m)
This is not a great look, Guys. While I can happily wear these jeans with heeled boots or even flip-flops, they are too long for sneakers. Cuffed jeans should either be full-length, or short enough to show a good couple inches of ankle – otherwise, sneakers don’t work.
9. The Best Jeans For Curves: Joe’s Jeans Trixie Wide Cuff Trousers
top (s) | jeans (28) | boots | earrings | bracelets (m)
FIT DETAILS: 32″ inseam, jeans run a tiny bit small
NOTES: Ok, so. I was all excited to love these jeans – the wash is gorgeous (even more so in person), they’re soft, comfy, love the cuffs and trouser detail – but then I kept squinting at the sides of the jeans. Why…are…they…rippling?

top (s) | jeans (28) | boots | earrings | bracelets (m)
After chatting with Linzi (she has a few pairs of this exact style and they do NOT ripple), we think that these Joe’s Jeans are made for mamas with curves! If you are more straight (like I am), they end up rippling. Linzi, however, who has more curves to fill them out, looks great in hers! (She’s wearing them here, FYI.)
That’s it! Good luck with jean shopping….
xo,
S

I know, I know, it’s a post about jeans and they’re all cute… but may I ask which exact phone case you have? 😉
Something about those flower jean are just not that cute. I like the idea but I don’t love the look on. I think the flowers are not white enough. Or the jeans are not dark enough. I am not sure what it is but yeah those are a not really for me.
So I need you to try on those Joe The Double-Buckle Wide-Leg Sailor Pants because they are amazing online.
