Dr. Dennis Gross LED Mask Review: Real Before & After Results (3 Months…And 5 Years Later)

2

I first tried the DRx SpectraLite™ FaceWare Pro LED Light Therapy Device from Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare (yes, the name is a mouthful) back in 2020 because the reviews were that good. I was hopeful…but mostly skeptical. And before I even get into my actual results, let me just say this: the fact that I’m willingly posting photos of myself with zero makeup on the internet is a testament to how well this thing works. This is coming from someone who would not have been caught dead leaving the house without makeup for most of her 20s and 30s. I’ve come a long way in feeling comfortable in my own skin (the 40s really are the DGAF era), but this mask helped. A lot.

So if you’ve been wondering whether the Dr. Dennis Gross LED Mask actually works – especially for redness, uneven tone, and texture – my before & after photos tell the story.

Spoiler alert: it’s HSA/FSA eligible!

Dr. Dennis Gross LED Mask Before & After: The Mask That Made Me Skip Makeup (Sometimes)

When I started using the Dennis Gross mask in 2020, my biggest issues were redness across my cheeks and nose, uneven tone, and a textured look that made makeup sit weird no matter which primer I tried. And while LED light therapy sounded interesting, I didn’t expect to see actual, visible changes. But I snapped a pic anyway, just to see…to compare to my results after three months of use.

It was one of those slow, steady improvements you don’t fully notice until you see the photos side by side. Then it’s like: Oh wow. Okay. It’s doing something. And honestly? When I compared those pictures, I was shocked. My tone looked more even, my texture had smoothed out enough that foundation actually applied better (you know I love my makeup), and my skin just looked…healthier and more balanced. After those first three months, I was sold – so I kept going.

And apparently I wasn’t the only one noticing real changes from this thing.

Somewhere in the middle of all this, my friend Amanda started raving about the mask to me one day (apparently she missed my original post 🤣). She told me it was the only thing that cleared up her perimenopausal acne – the kind that shows up out of nowhere and suddenly decides you’re 15 again. She tried everything; nothing worked until this mask. She even travels with it…for quick weekend trips. (A level of commitment I have yet to reach.)

She’s also the one who discovered it’s HSA/FSA eligible, which felt like winning the skincare lottery. Thank you, Amanda!

Dr. Dennis Gross LED Mask Review After 5 Years: My Long-Term Results

Her experience just confirmed what I was already seeing with my own skin – so I kept using the mask. And the long-term results? I’ll be honest: I was nervous to take these most recent pictures. I didn’t want to gush about how good this mask is only for people to look at the photos and think, “Eh.” Plus, I couldn’t wear makeup and I couldn’t edit the pictures – at all.

But then I pulled up my original 2020 photos and realized…FIVE YEARS had gone by. And when I thought about everything my skin has been through since then – the pandemic, brain surgery, divorce, moving, getting remarried, blending families…you know, the little things – I was actually kind of shocked by how good my skin looks.

For 44, with all that life behind it? My skin looks pretty dang good.

Scotti’s unedited before and after photos comparing 2020 to five years later, showing smoother texture, reduced redness, and more even skin tone from consistent LED mask use.

When I compare the 2020 photos to now, the changes are honestly more noticeable than I expected. My overall tone is so much more even – that redness across my cheeks and nose that used to be my biggest frustration is almost completely gone. My texture looks smoother and more refined, the blotchiness has calmed way down, and my skin just looks…brighter. Clearer. More awake. Even my makeup goes on better because my skin is smoother underneath. It’s not that the mask gave me brand-new skin; it’s that it helped me keep my skin looking healthy through some really stressful years. And you can see that in the photos.

And just to be clear, I’m totally aware that my skin isn’t “perfect” – nor is that a goal any of us should be chasing. I still have areas of uneven tone, a few spots here and there, and yes, lines are going to show up because…that’s what skin does. It ages, it moves, it lives life with us. But what I do see in these photos is how much healthier, calmer, and more even my skin looks overall. This mask didn’t freeze time or erase texture — it simply helped me age better, with skin that feels stronger and more balanced than it did five years ago.

One thing that definitely helped me stick with it is how easy it is to use. It’s completely hands-free with a strap that goes around the back of your head, and it’s only three minutes. It has a built-in timer that shuts off automatically when the session is done. I can use it right out of the shower while I’m putting on body lotion, or at night on the couch as a quick little break after washing my face. And there’s no special serum or prep required — you just wash your face and put it on. The simplicity is honestly a huge part of why I stayed consistent, and the consistency is what made the biggest difference in my results.

They also suggest flipping the mask down to use on your neck, and I so wish I had been doing that these last five years. My neck has always been the area I’m most self-conscious about, and now that I’m seeing the actual improvements this mask made to my face, I’m kicking myself a little for not treating my neck too. So that’s my next mission – I’m adding the neck into my routine starting now.

There’s also an eye mask that’s less expensive if you want to start smaller. It uses four types of LED light to target fine lines, wrinkles, puffiness, and dark circles around the eyes. And there’s a lip mask too – it promises an immediate plumping effect and, with consistent use, helps boost collagen, firm the skin, and smooth fine lines over time.

Five years in, I can say this mask has genuinely made a difference for me. No miracles, no magic wand, just calmer, smoother, healthier-looking skin that’s held up through a whole lot of life. And while I’ll always love makeup, I love that I don’t need it in the same way anymore. Feeling good bare-faced is honestly the biggest compliment I can give it. If you’ve been on the fence, this is one LED device I can actually say was 100% worth it for me!

Now, I’ve just got to figure out the rest of my skincare routine. I’m starting with Shana’s article, I’m 49, Here’s The Skincare I Swear By.

XOXO,
