I love dresses. I’ll wear them anywhere, anytime and with almost anything. Unlike dresses, turtlenecks don’t get enough love for how hard they work for our wardrobes — they’re the ultimate layering piece and come in ALL the styles (bodysuit, chunky knit, paper thin, cropped sleeves, etc.). That’s why dresses + turtlenecks has become my favorite fall styling hack. All you need is a lil’ layering skill, and you can make almost any dress wearable in cooler temps. Try a turtleneck under everything from a slip dress to a jumpsuit, and finish things off with your favorite matching booties for a casual, everyday fall look.
Dresses + Turtlenecks: 4 Fall Outfit Ideas
Outfit 1: Polka Dot Midi Dress
I layered my trusty cream knit turtleneck with a fun polka dot midi that I found at Nordstrom (for less than $30!) and finished it off with some western booties.
Turtleneck – Lauren Ralph Lauren Turtleneck Sweater (similar), I have so many turtlenecks because I live in them during the Fall and Winter. I have three in white, all in varying degrees of thickness, and I’m wearing my medium thickness turtleneck above.
Dress – BP Floral Sundress (40% off for $29.40 at Nordstrom), TTS, M. I couldn’t pass up this fun polka dot midi ruffle hem dress the other day when it went on sale, the rust/red color is my favorite color for fall and I love this length for cooler weather: It’s perfect for layering with a turtleneck this fall and winter color.
Booties – Able’s Rojas Western Booties, (TTS, 7.5). Able is by far one of my top sustainable brands. Their styles are on point and the quality is just amazing. This is the second pair of shoes I’ve bought from them in the span of a few months, and I live in them.
Outfit 2: Snake Slip Midi Dress
Layering with a print midi slip dress is the trendiest way to rock this style. Pair with an ultra-thin jersey turtleneck so you don’t have to worry about lumps and bumps. A black turtleneck works just as easily as a white turtleneck: each just offers you a slightly different vibe. Where a white turtleneck is more casual, a black turtleneck is perfect for a night on the town.
Outfit 3: Denim Jumper
Another option: try a chunky turtleneck sweater with dresses that are made with thicker more durable material (like corduroy, denim, faux leather, suede, etc.) and don’t forget to finish the look with a pair of wool tights for a polished look that is SO GOOD.
Outfit 4: Vegan Leather Dress
This is one of my favorite looks of the season so far; this dress is MADE for layering. What it lacks in practicality it more than makes up for in #BOSSBABEVibes, and we all deserve at least one item in our closet that’s sole purpose is to bring out the badass within, right?
