I’m a true Aquarius, friends, and I will do nothing that I am not inspired to do lol. Ok, I’ll do some things with great effort, but I thrive on inspiration and absolutely when it comes to getting dressed. Fall is my favorite time to be inspired to put outfits together. Right now, as we transition to the best season of the year, I have a few pieces in my closet that are helping me feel good.
Early Fall Closet Pieces: 9 Buys I’m Reaching For Now
This mix of closet pieces is adding a little crispness, a little color and a lot of practicality to my wardrobe. I’ve always loved a mix of sporty meets classic when it comes to style…I love a mix of genres, if you will. I’ve got a couple of beautiful button down shirts, a wide leg jean with great drape, and a super comfy pair of loafers in the round up here. The colors are blues and some browns and some denim with a little hint of classic black to ground the outfits. I hope this is inspiring if you need some outfit ideas for fall as we head into September.

1 | Boden Silk Floral Tie Neck Blouse
blouse (10)
I’m adoring a tie neck blouse moment right now…it feels so 9-5 and I am here for it, especially in updated patterns and gorgeous silk, like this Boden blouse. This shirt just makes me so happy when I put it on. Quince has a long sleeved solid version if that’s more your jam and it’s under $100.
2 | Frank & Eileen Pull-on Jeans
blazer (10) | tank (M) | jeans (M or similar) | sneakers
These soft denim pull-on jeans from Frank & Eileen have been a game-changer for my outfits lately. They’re so comfy but look cute not sloppy. They hold their shape well and they have the right amount of drape for the vibe I want right now. I really love them and grab them multiple times a week. Gah, they’re low in stock (I’m pretty sure they’ll be restocked?) but I’ve also had these from Pilcro and while they’re a bit more structured, they’re super cute and have a similar patch pocket vibe. This pair from BR Factory would also be a good alternative.
3 | TWP Light Blue Convertible Button Down
loafers | shirt (M) | shorts (30)
Ok, let’s hear it for another beautiful button down shirt with great details. These TWP shirts are made of the loveliest poplin fabric and so freaking good. A few alternatives just in case these aren’t on the docket for you…this one from Evereve and this from Madewell are looking pretty dang sharp.
4 | Rothy’s Double Bit Driver Loafers
loafers (also here and Nordstrom) | shirt (M) | shorts (30)
These Rothy’s loafers are not only so incredibly comfy (think soft on that annoying area across the toe box where loafers are usually too tight) but they’re adorable and a perfect transition shoe. I love the texture of the check print (honestly better than the solids) for looking less like a knit shoe and more like a ‘real’ loafer, but with the comfort of the Rothy’s knit. So good. TTS but size up 1/2 if between.
5 | Theory Double Vent Blazer in Good Linen
blazer (10) | dress (on sale!) | sneakers
I cannot say enough good things about this blazer. I have worn it SO much this year, especially for travel. It’s been the perfect lightweight topper for three trips now, and I love how it levels my outfits up a bit vs. my go-to denim shirts or jackets I used to rely on. Sadly, it’s final sale right now BUT Theory does offer exchange for a different size. I’m rounding up other oversized lightweight blazers here, too, for your convenience.
6 | AE Crop Rugby Sweatshirt
sweatshirt (M) | jeans (M)
You’ve seen this in the sales reports but this thing is the freaking best. I love it so much. It’s the perfect length, a soft collar that looks amazing and the perfect terry fabric so it’s not too hot for early fall. I am trying to keep my wardrobe pared down (ha) but I really want it in a second color. TTS for a lovely boxy fit.
7 | TWP Crop Button Down Shirt
shirt (M) | jeans (M) | sneakers | bag
TWP recently became my new favorite button down. I have two styles they sent over this spring and they are…phenomenal. The details, the fabric, the unique sleeve cuffing options…they’re beautiful. This is the cropped version, and be aware that it is fairly cropped, but with higher waisted pants it’s perfection. The navy is so good for fall and the crispness of this top just makes me feel so put-together. I love it.
8 | Tuckernuck Canvas Tote
I know canvas totes are totally in right now, but I had no idea how much I’d love one in my everyday rotation. This one from Tuckernuck is perfect because it’s more structured than some, but it’s not totally stiff. It’s under $80, which for a purse that has gotten so much use is such a good price point. I have it flipped here, but it has an exterior pocket on the front that perfectly holds my phone, which I love. It’s the perfect size for holding what I need without being too big and the pretty blue color will vibe gorgeously with the browns and darker denims I’ll be wearing for fall.
9 | Mavi Heidi Shorts
shirt (M) | shorts (30) | similar sneakers
Obviously, I love this button down and shorts combo. These Mavi shorts are the perfect length…not too short, not too long, on my 5’4″ self. They’re actually comfy to wear compared to all other denim shorts I’ve tried lately. Yes, they do still have a button at the waist but I sized up (the key to all pants and shorts for me these days in perimenopause I’m realizing) and the fit, especially after they’ve relaxed a bit, is actually tolerable. Hi. The shape is amazing, too. I am so impressed and have actually worn them multiple times out of the house. Can’t wait to pair them with a blazer as it cools just a bit.
Here’s to fall, friends.
