I have dreamed of owning a Barbour jacket since college. All of my friends would strut around campus wearing their Barbour jackets and Sorel boots, and I had some serious FOMO. So when I recently learned that Barbour came out with a plus-size line, I knew I needed to try them out for myself. And let me tell you, the quality of a handmade jacket is like no other. These jackets are amazing and worth every. single. penny. The detailing, the warmth, the simple-yet-timeless style…needless to say, I may be in love.
I wasn’t able to try anything on in-store, so of course I found my trusty Nordstrom card and did some damage. I ordered every style and color available, and even ordered a few different sizes. For reference, I am consistently a size 2x in jackets, and Barbour’s line fit very well. True to size without any stretch or give in the fabric. I also recommend taking a look at their sizing guidelines too, just to be sure. What I love most is the impeccable detailing within the entire jacket. From button details, to zippers, and the lining of the coats — the warmth is truly like no other jacket I have worn. Read below for the lowdown on each of these amazing pieces, and which one or two I decided to keep!
Jacket 1: Annandale Quilted Utility Jacket
Personally, I think the Annandale jacket is the OG of Barbour’s collection. Its super-lightweight wax shell lasts forever and even though it is very thin, it’s super-warm. The jacket is detailed with classic diamond stitching and has a corduroy collar. It comes in two colors: white and military green. I absolutely love the green color. My bestie said that the white one made me look like a grandma who’s on her way to buy another Vera Bradley purse, but TBH I still loved all the gram vibes it gave me. Needless to say, this jacket is perfect for fall. If you live in a warmer climate would be great for winter as well.
Jacket 2: Exmoor Diamond Quilted Jacket
The Exmoor Diamond is very similar to the Annandale, but has some distinct differences. The first is that it is slightly, and I mean slightly, thicker than the Annandale, and the filling resembles more of a down comforter. Personally, I prefer this jacket over the Annandale because it’s diamond detailing accentuates your waistline a bit better. Rather than the same diamond stitching throughout, the sides of the jacket have smaller diamond stitching that I feel creates a cinched waistline effect. The collar and neckline detailing are navy suede, which I really like as well. Lastly, the pockets also have button detailing and snap closed, which is a bit more secure than the Annandale. I like this style slightly more than the first.
Jacket 3: Arrow Quilted Hooded Parka
I LOVVVVEE this arrow quilted hooded parka, and feel super-sleek and sexy in this jacket! The detailing on this beauty is amazing and I love the length and everything about this jacket. And to top it off, I think this one will be perfect for a cold winter here in Colorado. The jacket has several different diamond details on the sides, back, elbows and shoulders, and is fleece-lined to keep you warm all winter. It has a two-way zip for extra space and four front pockets for storing gloves, mittens and snacks. I love the buckle detailing as well, and that you can cinch in the waist for a true hourglass shape. Yes, I wrote love like a hundred times, but when it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be.
Jacket 4 (The Winner): Element Waterproof Hooded Jacket
Last, but certainly not least, is the Element Waterproof Hooded Jacket. When I looked at it online, I thought it would be my absolute favorite, and when I tried it on in person it absolutely was! First and foremost, I love the color white, and that’s what initially drew me to this jacket. I also love pieces that are simple and sleek, and again this jacket checks those boxes for me. But the icing on the cake is the inner lining of this jacket… it resembles that of the famous Burberry pattern: right then and there I knew this one was a winner! The detailing on this jacket is super-subtle and includes angled sleeves, a high/low cut at the bottom and button detailing. I also love that this jacket is a bit oversized and also waterproof. This is the clear winner for me, and is in my rotation for the upcoming winter!
Well, that’s all I have for you. These jackets are amazing and I ended up deciding on keeping the Element, though the Arrow was a very, very close contender. Barbour also sells great scarves, and there men’s collection is primo! I just took another peek at Nordstrom’s website and found that Barbour just released a few more plus-size options; you can check them out below.
