Cue the Green Day/Sublime/Alanis/Mariah…we’re taking it back. Lol. I went to peruse Gap’s website and wound up with pieces I would have easily worn in college…but don’t worry. These outfits smack of 1996 but there’s an element of 2026 still in here. It’s probably just me…I’m the element of 2026. Well, and my adidas instead of those platform stretch slides from Steve Madden. I did try my Vans on for a hot second but it was too spot-on ’96 and felt like a costume lol. But alas, there are some fun finds if you’re dipping your toe into baggy jeans, striped long sleeve tees and that layered tee look we all loved once before. Oh, and a baby tee. Yep. I’m not even mad about them, either.
I Tried On 8 Pieces For Fall At Gap: A Review
Baggy jeans and tees and Birkenstocks…they’re all here. But, updated a little bit. The fabrics on these Gap tees are way better than what I was rocking from Delia’s back in the day. The couple t-shirts I found have a lovely vintage feel and are 100% cotton. And you’ll see how much I love these jeans below. They’re so freaking good. I wish I could send you all a really excellent mix tape/burned CD right now, but instead I’ll send ya along with this fall Gap try-on…
1 | The Favorite: A Ribbed Tee + Baggy Jeans Combo
top (M) | jeans (30 – run big) | sneakers
This was my favorite outfit combo from the try-on. Surprisingly, I love this ribbed fitted tee (baby tee, if you will lol) and these baggy jeans with the reinforced panels. SO freaking good. I hope they offer them in more washes, but these feel very Rudy Jude to me, but updated with the baggy fit. So cool. They run a little big, so I am going to size down to a 29. But I love the baggy fit (I was just worried that these will give with wear and be a little too loose in the waist.)
2 | Layered Tees + Baggy Jeans
tee (M) | striped tee (M) | jeans (30 – run big) | sneakers
You will see by the end of this how much I adore these jeans because they are on-repeat here…but these layered tees (uh I went a little overboard because I threw this layer on before realizing the long sleeve is actually already layered looking ha, but I still liked it. And this little 100% cotton shrunken tee is well, just perfect. It’s that soft vintage feel we want in a basic tee but that is so hard to find. The blue v-neck is also on its way to me in the same fabric, but it’s taking a while to arrive. Will update on our socials if it’s also good!
3 | CashSoft Chunky Cardigan + Pinstripe Wide Leg Jeans
sweater (M) | jeans (30) | sneakers
Oh, hi. These baggy pinstripe wide leg jeans are what kinda started my Gap try-on this time around. And they are SO freaking cool. I think they are a little specific when it comes to styling, but maybe I’m wrong. They’re good and so cute with the Cashsoft chunky cardigan. The cardigan is so soft and in theory I like the shape, but I don’t think it fits me very well. Maybe I needed to either size up or size down? Like, for extreme oversized or for a little bit less room in the sleeves? On the fence but in theory it’s great.
Here I’m pairing the jeans with my oversized Faherty natural denim jacket and I like. So, maybe it would just take a bit of playing around with them to get more outfits I love.

4 | Flared Jeans + Birkenstocks
top (M) | jeans (30) | birkenstocks | bag
Oh, flare jeans you say. Um, yes. I felt like I was solidly back in college in this outfit and Shana mentioned that, too. Haha. Well, if the jeans were like way thinner stretchy denim and even more baggy. I’m not quite ready to wear flare jeans all the time yet, but it was fun to try. I’m still always down for flare cords though (these are similar to my favorite pair from last year.)
5 | Striped Layered Tee + Baggy Jeans
striped tee (M) | jeans (30 – run big) | sneakers
Aww look at me in this striped tee now, wearing it as the good lord intended. Lol. Yes, then I realized it was already a layered effect. And I do love it. I think it’d be cute with track pants, too, or wide leg sweats. The fabric is so great and definitely a vintage feel. These are my favorites from Gap, and these are a lighter weight terry fabric.
6 | Baggy Drawstring Reinforced Panel Pants
tee (M) | pants (M) | birkenstocks
Amy recently talked about these cute drawstring pants and I had to try them out. They look so cute on her and I’m a sucker for a reinforced panel. They’re an amazing pant but I think it’s the wrong color for me? And they definitely run big. Gah they’re so cool, though…I may try them in the blue or the ‘black moss green’?
7 | This Unique Boxy Tee + Baggy Jeans
tee (m) | jeans (30 – run big) | sneakers
Ok, this Knit Fitted-waist tee intrigued me online and I’m so glad I ordered it. It was a little tricky to show in these photos but it is boxier in the shoulders and top and then more fitted around the midsection. I thought it might not work at all but like the ribbed tee up top, it did! And it’s a cute way to show off baggy jeans with the contrast. Fit is true to size but it was a little tight-ish getting it on and off, fyi. So size up if you need a little more room in the midsection. It’s a thicker cotton and not thin and stretchy, which is why I think I like the fitted part. It lays nicely on the mom bod.
8 | Gap Barrel Jeans: Almost But Not Quite
tee (m) | jeans (30) | sneakers
These are the barrel jeans that some of the other team likes around here, but I don’t know. I almost like them but I think I’d have to adjust the length. They’re a trick fit when they’re full length because they’re a little too narrow for cuffing at the bottom. I’m alllmost over barrel jeans for myself, unless they’re exaggerated, like this pair from Pilcro at Anthropologie. I have them and somedays I really like them. They require a top that hits right at the waist though and will look cute with the ribbed brown top above. I think I’ll say no thanks to this Gap pair, though.
Ok, and because I can’t resist I’m leaving you with a little playlist of some favs from the late ’90s. Just me living out my High Fidelity fantasies here. Some of these were on an actual burned CD my friend gave me before I went to study abroad in Spain for the summer of 1999. Here are 10 songs to take you back…
- Devil’s Haircut – Beck
- It’s A Shame About Ray – The Lemonheads
- Sex + Candy – Marcy Playground
- Talk Show Host – Radiohead
- Miss Misery – Elliott Smith
- Did You Ever Look So Nice – The Samples
- You Get What You Give – New Radicals
- Praise You – Fatboy Slim
- Jumper – Third Eye Blind
