This Graphic Tee Trend Is Saving My Summer Outfits

This post is sponsored by Nordstrom & Collective Voice.

Graphic tees have been a true closet favorite of mine for years. I’m 100% sure it’s a direct result of my graphic design background (duh) but there’s no easier way to make an outfit more interesting than to add a cool graphic tee.

Right now we’re seeing a shift away from band tees, black graphic tees and some of those edgy graphic tees I’ve loved. Instead, graphic tees trends are moving in a slightly more colorful, hopeful direction. One graphic tee style that recently caught my eye are those collegiate-inspired sporty styles.

Hello summer…this is my vibe. For someone who typically doesn’t feel quite like herself in anything in summer (I’m a fall-gal), sporty graphic tees (and the combos below) have been a real win lately.

Sporty Graphic Tees For 2024

How I’m Wearing Graphic Tees This Summer

I especially love how these sporty tees look when mixed with pastel shades (like pale pink, blue, taupe). This slightly-preppy-but-not combo is a little femme, summery and fun. Additionally, sporty graphic tees add an almost edgy vibe to flowy linen pants. Let’s get into it.

Outfit 1: Sporty Graphic Tee + Pastel Pink Pants

Tee (M) | Jeans (30) | Birkenstocks | Bag | Hat | Earrings

I freaking love this combo so much. It’s what inspired this whole post to start with. Pale pink is in right now and while I’m not a bright pink fan, give me alllll the super pretty, super pale versions right now.

Give Me Pale Pink Jeans: These jeans from Scotch & Soda are comfy with stretch and adding a cuff makes them feel on-trend. They’re also under $150 and the color is perfection. Fit is true to size and they’re not thin but aren’t too heavy making them great for mild temps or cranked AC.

…And Pale Pink Birks: How many Birkenstock Arizona Big Buckles is too many? Well, I am not the right person to ask because this beautiful pink pair here are my third (4th if you count regular Arizonas) and I don’t even care who knows it. They’re the BEST sandal for my problem feet (wide toe box and hereditary bunions) and they’re so cute in this pale shade. TTS and beautiful and my favs for 2024 with those pretty brass buckles.

This Rugby Tee I Love: The tee I have on here is perfectly oversized, easy to style black and white and super cool and breezy to wear. It’s from Nordstrom brand EDIKTED and they’ve continually had great, reasonably priced on-trend pieces I’ve noticed. The roomy fit and giant numbers and dropped-shoulder, football-style cut make this one feel updated and fresh.

And How About That Cute Bag, Eh? Yep, it’s MZ Wallace and I LOVE it. Unlike many giant quilted bags which I don’t always need for everyday, this cute size is perfect for my typical needs. And whatever nylon fabric this bag is made from is incredibly soft. The leather details take it up a notch and this color is just so fun with the summery pastels. It’s got the vibe of a denim purse without being actual denim (easier to keep clean) and I would totes recommend.

Outfit 2: Sporty Graphic Tee + Flowy Linen Pants

Ok this outfit is the epitome of comfortable, but still feels on-trend and summery and fun. I love the pastels mixed in with the sporty top and hat, but details like the flowy linen pants and pink Birks give the sportiness a feminine edge.

I Don’t Love All Summery Clothing, But I Love Flow-y Linen Pants: And these striped linen boxer-style pants are just that…flow-y! They’re SO comfortable and easy and even better in person. Quite a few of us on the team have and adore them. I will be living in them as both everyday pants and a cute cover-up for beach or pool days.

I did hem them as they run long (I’m 5’4″) but they are so worth it (and don’t forget you can get them done at Nordstrom if needed!) The fit is slightly oversized and I love it. I’m wearing my regular size Medium here.

Outfit 3: Sporty Graphic Tee + Soft Cargo Shorts

For the sake of versatility, I wanted to pop in an additional photo of wearing this graphic tee with shorts. Even though I don’t love shorts, I do concede that sometimes they’re necessary.

OK fine, shorts: These cargo shorts are super soft in a washed fabric and they’re just long enough for this combo (so it looks like you still have pants on. Lol.) They’re great. The Medium was a teeny bit small on me but they feel like they’ll give with wear. Size up if between.

Thank you so much to Nordstrom for sponsoring this fun, summery article. I am adoring the on-trend pieces you have right now in both sporty tees and pastel colors to style them with. And thanks for always carrying some of our favorite sandals ever in all the new styles…Birkenstocks! Readers, thank YOU for your continued support of the Mom Edit and all we do here to keep this team going. xo

  1. Laura — I feel you, summer is not my season!! Thank you for this post. Any chance you would consider updating your post about earrings and wearing glasses fulltime? I recently joined the club – both short hair (hello pixie!) and glasses fulltime. I need the earrings to bring some femininity but it starts feeling complicated quickly.

    • I know that struggle! My hair is longer right now and it makes all of that much easier I will admit. When I did have shorter hair I relied a lot on lipstick (still do) and other jewelry (rings, bracelets, necklaces) and nail polish. Dangly earrings that are thin and delicate also work. I hope that helps for now!

  2. It helps! One last question — what are you wearing for lip in these photos? I am stuck between hating to reapply and not wanting too much color!
    I really appreciate it, Laura.

    • My favorite was discontinued. So what I’m wearing here is Clinique Chubby Stick in Fuller Fig. I do like the consistency and the color is close to my fav Nars.
