Gold & Gray: An Unexpected Combo That Works All Year Long

Wanna know my favorite date night? A slice of NY style pizza, a glass of wine, and a movie at our favorite little old-school theater in our neighborhood, the St. Johns Cinema (and yes, it’s St. Johns, not St. John’s…I think there were multiple Johns? Anyway…)

It’s my favorite thing ever, and it’s probably our most frequented date night, whenever those actually get to happen. So, it was fun to take these pics outside our favorite place, even if it was 10am and the local patrons were already outside getting their drink on. We were literally asked while shooting if the breakfast cafe we were eating in served spirits. Haha. We live in an interesting little area…a real Portland melting pot of a neighborhood…a little gritty, a little crunchy and a lot awesome. Just south of where I’m standing is the best bridge in Portland, the St. Johns bridge. I’m quite partial. It’s gorgeous. If you’re into bridges….And in Portland we have to be. There are 14 bridges! (And this article is somewhat useless but hilarious, nonetheless.)

Gold Metallic Top + Gray Jeans = Cool Outfit Combo

OK, on to outfit talk. My other favorite thing. I recently discovered that a) metallic tops are fun any time of  year, why save them for the holidays? and b) gold looks surprisingly chic with good gray jeans. You know I’m not one to stick to societal or fashion norms really, so this is right up my ‘rebellious’ alley. #watchoutworld Throw in some kind of animal print (obvs) and a nice neutral shoe, and you’re set for a wearable albeit a bit fancy look. It’s just fun.

I have to say it felt pretty fab on a hot summer morning at 10am, but I think I’ll hold it for later in the day next time. Most likely not for a pizza and a movie date because #sneakers, but definitely for dinner out or a night out with girlfriends…those times you want to feel a little fancy but still be comfy. I mean, we know this is always my goal when it comes to dressing up.

Mamas, when we find a top that totally makes our outfit — & it's unexpected — we call it a win. This metallic gold top + gray jeans combo is just that. Outfit Details

Shimmer Top (similar) // Such a fun piece to have for a little bling in your date night or special occasion or, you know, 10am on a sunny morning on your neighborhood street with all the bars. #hi My top has sadly sold out, but the one linked is super-close and really adorable. There’s a lack of really wearable metallic gold tops right now because I think the fashion industry must not be hip to my game yet, but I’ve linked to a few more sweater style versions below, too, that have a nice little shimmer. OH and Shana was just checking out this little number that is adorable and half off! It’s a silver, but still shimmery fun.

Gray jeans (4P) // Super-comfy, cute and a perfect gray wash. Love these with the gold as kind of an unexpected combo. TTS and they definitely run long. I still have them tucked under here.

Tan heels // Everyone’s favs. I went up to a wide fit and that was comfier on the toe box for me. Otherwise TTS.

Snake bag (similar) // You may have noticed I use pattern to add a pop to most of my outfits instead of color. I like to be bold with my animal prints, and it adds just that fun and interesting visual element I’m always wanting to finish off an outfit.

Also, have you seen Once Upon A Time In Hollywood? OMGGGG. Haha. If you’re a Tarantino fan, definitely go see it. It’s an incredible film and I haven’t reacted that much to a scene in a movie in a long time. I could watch a movie in a theater every day and be quite happy. Especially if it involves a slice of pizza from this place and a glass of wine, too. I’ll just be here now, kthx.
