If you follow me on Instagram (@shanachristine), you know that my hair started falling out last night. I have a feeling that these next few days? weeks? will be the strangest of my life. It's kinda like post-partum shedding, but more. And if I reach up and give a little tug, I can pull out a tiny clump.
Which sucks.
But I figured it was time for another haircut, so I went to see Shannon at Salon Ziza. And she did this:
Darn that girl. I was supposed to hate going shorter, thus making the whole bald thing not-so-bad, but I clearly underestimated how good she is.
Like my previous haircut, she wants me to let it get dirty, wash it occasionally, and then throw in some product, scrunch and air-dry. Add a few bends (if I want) with a curling iron. I think she added eight. Um…even I can do eight bends with a curling iron.
A few of you asked what products I've been using on my hair. I typically mix together Not Your Mother's Kinky Moves Curl Defining Cream
and Phyto's Phytodefrisant and run the mix through my wet hair. I let it air-dry, scrunching once in a while. Once dried, I spray it with Kevin Murphy's Hair Resort Spray
and do a few more scrunches for texture.
It all makes a delightful mess.
Now, let's talk about this dress!
The folks over at Boden sent me the Libby Dress. And Mamas? It's Ponte. Ponte has some give, so the dress feels like you are wearing a well-tailored sweatshirt. No. Joke. Yet it's thick enough to be able to layer a shirt underneath without a bunch of lumps and bumps showing through.
Also, the pleated front helps to disguise a small pooch. A feature I always applaud.
I'd be hard-pressed to find a more perfect all-day dress for moms. It's tailored enough for work, sexy enough for date night*, and comfortable enough for the park. I'll probably tailor mine a little bit shorter (you know I like leggy dresses)…and looking back I'm wondering if I should've gone red. Lovelovelove.
*I'll lose the turtleneck. Promise.
Even better, Boden is offering ANMJ readers 15% off and free shipping when you spend over $100. (The Libby Dress is $128.) Use code W906 and click here to redeem.
So. That's my life at the moment. I have another hair appointment for next week, but I'm hoping I keep my strands a little bit longer. We'll see.
xo,
S
Wish I could just give you a hug. Praying for you and your family. (((hugs)))
You look adorable:)
I love it!!!!!!!!! You look fabulous! I want one just like yours, in fact I’m taking a picture of your picture to show my hair dresser 😉
Your haircut is super cute and it looks great on You!
Also, I love the dress with the turtleneck underneath. I never would’ve put those two together myself.
*internet hugs*
You look absolutely gorgeous!! xo
BODEN – who knew? Everything over there is GORGEOUS. You shopping enabler, you. 😉 You look gorgeous. I’m choked up for your hair. xo
You’re amazing!! Seriously. And you look amazing.
Yes, bringing it up a few inches would be PERFECT. I just found your blog – I don’t know what took me so long!
Also I have an illness that causes me to lose most of my hair, including eyebrows and eyelashes since I was nine. If you need any advice (on makeup or wigs) or support do not hesitate to email me. Only close friends and family know so I must be doing something right. 🙂
Thinking of you. That’s all. xox
Thinking of you. That’s all.

You look gorgeous.
Love the dress, love the hair! I keep looking at Boden, maybe this time I’ll actually buy something…
Good luck and hugs!
PS What’s Boden’s sizing like?
You continue to amaze us readers with your positive attitude! Love the dress and the hair. And appreciate the inspiration!
Could you be cuter!
Holy heck that hair is GOOOOOOOOOOD!!! If I a) could pull off bangs and b) hadn’t just hacked my hair I would’ve taken these pics straight to the salon. You look phenomenal!
You look beautiful.
You look beautiful! Sending lots of good thoughts.
To echo the sentiments of so many other faithful readers, you are truly an inspiration. You have managed not to lose yourself in all of this which is amazing. I am a long time reader of anmj and have always admired your style from afar ( I recreate your outfits on the regular with a preppy twist) but now I see you for so much more. I know you are going to rock some ridic head scarves when all that gorgeous hair is gone. 🙂
I LOVE that haircut! And the dress is fab. You are so lovely.
The haircut is amazing. Just amazing. I think I need a haircut now…
Love it! The hair, the dress, and the turtleneck too. I think I could sleep in that dress. Prayers are continuing!
Love the hair and dress! You look adorable!

I never leave comments for the blogs I love to read, but your shorter haircut is beyond cute. I am so sorry you will not get to keep it styled this way for long, but if these pictures are any indication, you will totally rock all the different hair stages you will be in over the course of your treatment. I am thinking and praying for you and your family from Naples, Italy.
You look great! I didn’t think you could get a cuter haircut than the last one. At least you are getting to experiment with different styles so you know what cool stuff you’ll be able to do as your hair grows back in. Honestly, you are so beautiful and cool and I think you will look fabulous with a smooth head too. Maybe get a temporary tattoo on your scalp so it looks like it’s on purpose. Or even permanent? After a while, who’ll know? 🙂
do a pixie!!!
I don’t commonly comment, but your haircut looks AMAZING on you! Strength and hugs
You look great! Sending lots of positive thoughts your way.
And I love the dress…I just recently discovered Boden dresses myself.
Cutest haircut! Great smile on your instagram
You should buy a satin pillowcase. It will help you keep your hair longer. From personal experience, having your hair fall out is the worst. Everyone told me to just shave it off, but I couldn’t. In hindsight, however, it makes the slow losing hair process over all at once instead of one small piece at a time.
Love that haircut on you! You look fantastic, way to rock your life.
Praying for you all.
That outfit is like looking into a perfection mirror! I love it, and wish I looked as lovely as you do!
Your hair stylist is amazing. I can tell she is cutting your locks with love.
I was just thinking about your last night, holding hope and healing for you in my heart.
I thought about how children forget so much of their childhood, and how this is a tremendous experience for you and your husband, but they will most likely barely remember it.
🙂
Your hair is AMAZING..can’t wait to see how adorable you’ll look growing it back out again!
That cut is great on you! You look gorgeous.
Thinking of you and your family.
I love Boden and I appreciate the offer. So sorry about your hair but you are looking awesome right now!
You look great Shana…. thinking of you!
To echo everyone else. You look gorgeous. And hair, or no hair- you will always look gorgeous for you have a beautiful soul mama. xo
Love the haircut! It is seriously adorable and sassy. I love that you and your fab personality are what’s shining through the strongest out of all of this craziness and will come out the other side even shinier, I’m sure!
You look gorgeous! Thinking of you every day…
The haircut is beautiful! You are so inspiring and positive. Praying for you!
Whoa, LOVE the hair cut. Perhaps a silver lining to all this is you’re trying out all the styles. When your hair comes back, you can do it in reverse!
Love the outfit. I’ve heard Boden runs narrow in the hips, so I’ve avoided their stuff, but that dress would seem to have ease.
Related to the outfit: Realize you’re a *little* busy, but could you do some styling ideas for turtlenecks? I was charmed by the options in the Lands End catalog last night but worried I’d end up looking like I stepped out of Lake Wobegone.
You are a rock star!!! That’s all I have to say (other than ofcourse your hair cut is super cute!)
You are so brave – and so beautifully chic throughout it all. Love your haircut. Love your writing. Thinking about you and your family.
The shorter hairstyle looks great on you! Still amazed at your strength, humor, and courage throughout all this. Hang in there, still with you here! 🙂
1. You look great! I’m sorry the circumstances necessitated it, but I really like that cut on you.
2. I actually like the turtleneck with that dress! But I am a staunch turtleneck defender so take my opinion with a grain of salt, perhaps 🙂
3. Coinkydink! I have those 2 exact hair products. Having recently gone shorter myself, must smoosh them together in the morning and see what happens …
I started following you 18 months ago when my son was born and I really needed to pick up my self esteem with my new post baby body. You gave me so much inspiration and company. I live in Italy without any of my family members, and in a weird way you became a friend that I turned to for “girltalk”. (Don’t get scared by this seriously stalker sentiment!).
Anyways, I just wanted to tell you that your hair looks amazing, your blog is fantastic and I admire how you are still so dedicated to it even with everything you are going through.
Shana, You are such an inspiration. Even through this tough time you still manage to be a style inspiration. After seeing all your cute new short dos, I chopped off my hair for the first time in years! http://parkerproj.blogspot.com/2013/10/short-hair-for-fall.html
