I’ve always been drawn to the color red around the holidays. Last year, the desire to rock the color in my outfits lasted much longer, throughout the whole winter season (who remembers my “Mrs Claus suit” I wore on repeat?? Gap brought BACK the matching joggers and crewneck sweatshirt in that fabulous modern red!).

But lucky for me, the color red is trending this season in a BIG way. While I’m not always in the mood to rock a North Pole-ready, head-to-toe red ensemble, I do love incorporating a little pop of red into my outfits wherever I can.

This year, it’s all about the satin top for me.

Feeling Festive With A Little Pop Of Red: Start With Gap’s Satin Boyfriend Shirt

I’ve been very intrigued with satin this year…and maybe for the first time ever. It all began when I tried hunting down the perfect satin pants this past spring (I mostly failed, though, wah-wah), and continued when I began swapping my denim shorts for satin skirts. But now that the nights are turning chillier, I’ve loved the idea of an oversized satin top with a great pair of jeans.

Gap came out with their boyfriend style button-up top in gorgeous satin colors and I immediately wanted to try one. Looser style silhouettes are my go-to, so I knew the relaxed description of the top would make this just the ticket.

The top falls long in the body and fits perfectly on my broad shoulders. It’s easily tuckable but just as cute worn out over the top of your jeans. I’m wearing the color Sled Red which is a really beautiful hue that takes on raspberry tones in some lighting, and is a deep true red in another (which makes it a little more fun to pair with a variety of shoes). I can’t help but feel festive and ready for the holidays while wearing this, which was my goal!

Pull On Gap’s Stride Jeans For An On-Trend, Sexy Look

To build an outfit around Gap’s satin shirt, I love pairing it with their High Rise Wide-Leg Stride Jeans

These jeans have just the right amount of width in the leg to feel on-trend, but they don’t at all swallow you up or overwhelm an outfit. There is also just enough hug to the bum to feel truly sexy while wearing them.

I’m wearing the jeans in the long inseam and they’re perfect for my 5’9” frame (you can opt for the tall inseam if you need more length – and there’s petite & regular, too). True to size and with a little bit of stretch, these jeans are super comfortable for all day wear (but are oh-so-good for date night looks).

Top It Off: Choose Gap’s Cashsoft Boyfriend Cardigan or Recycled Wool Wrap Coat

Depending on the occasion, there’s two types of top layers that look great thrown over this outfit. The first one is Gap’s Cashsoft Boyfriend Cardigan. It’s a loose sweater with just the right amount of slouchy factor. I love how it balances out the satin top in a casual, comfy way.

The Boyfriend Cardigan is also beyond versatile: wear it over a little tank and blue jeans, pair with Gap’s matching sweater pants, and pull it on first thing in the morning over your pjs as you head for the coffee machine. It’s the kind of wardrobe staple I live for.

If you’re looking for something a bit more statement-making, a long wool coat is my favorite. Actually, any full length coat this year is making me swoon, but specifically Gap’s Recycled Wool Wrap Coat. The evenings are just getting cool enough here where I can pull out a layer like this (which feels very exciting).

The coat is oversized and roomy in the shoulders, making it the perfect layer over thicker fall and winter outfits. It’s unlined and on the thinner side as far as coats go, which means it’s ideal for climates that run warm, too.

I actually love this wrap coat so much, I scooped it up in Charcoal Grey with my last round of GapCash. Yup, it’s good.
