Hola! This year has me making a whole different wishlist plan than years before.
Me, in 2019, adding things to my wishlist: high-heeled boots and fancy dresses. I was escaping a month of winter and visiting family in Colombia.
Skincare, Boots & Warm, Chic Layers: Julieta’s Black Friday Shopping List
Me, 2020: comfy boots, warm jackets, loungewear, home decor and all the skincare. Gracias, 2020!! You’ve definitely taken the fun out of the random fancy occasions I attended and brought me back to “working from home mom reality”…the one where I can wear pajamas every day if I wanted to. We’re not going to Colombia, either so have to get ready for the long winter.
…but I refuse!
Let’s pray these pieces go on sale. Some of them already have…and may already be on their way to me. Let’s see!
A Light Coat & A Dark Coat
It seems that one of my fall/winter traditions is to get a new coat from J.Crew. I love the classic-chic style mixed with the high quality that will keep it in your closet for many years.
Last year I got this exact coat in a mustard yellow. It was all I wore. This year’s version is double-breasted in this beautiful off-white color that I’m sure will brighten cold days. It’s for pre-order, though. So, I decided to try the regular version (more colors available) in the same vintage white. I think that one will actually be better for my body type.
02 l J.Crew Chateau Parka
One of the coats I forgot to try-on for my “Best of J.Crew coats” post last year. I couldn’t resist it this year in this rich brown (more colors available). You know me and my color analysis…dark brown is a color more universal than black is, and as someone with warm and deep features, I love it. I explained more about the universal colors here. The cut of this coat falls seamlessly over the body without being boxy. And my favorite part is the warmth it provides without adding bulk. I love J.Crew’s Italian fabrics! Scotti rocks the black.
Something For Home
We’re in full renovation mode here, something we’ve wanted to do since we bought our pretty dollhouse in the suburbs of NY. We finally replaced our newlywed bed with this beauty that Annmarie helped me pick. I also think we found the perfect bunk bed for our boys, but other than that, I want to give more personality with little details here and there.
Because our house is a dollhouse, (that’s how our family in Colombia refers to it) we’re now having our two boys share a room, so I can have an office. After spending hours looking for a bunk bed, we, of course, loved one of the higher-end ones. So good thing it’s 30% off now — even before Black Friday sales begin. Choose to pick it up at your local West Elm to avoid the shipping cost.
I love accent gold pieces, especially during the holidays. I want these on the wall shelves in my dining room or maybe the console table? They’re going somewhere!! What if I surround them with these pretty garland lights?
Cold Weather Essentials
Even after 10 years, this Colombian transplant is not used to winters yet. I usually escape for a month to Colombia (not this year) and then pretty much stay home. This year, however, I need everything to stay warm while spending more time outdoors to keep my sanity and forget how homesick I am.
I can’t do regular gloves or my hands will freeze. What is Gore-Tex? I have no idea, but it sounds like something that will keep my hands warm on cold days or the skiing trips we hope to have this winter. Also, touchscreen compatible!
Another color for styling options, because you can never have too many! These have a Prima Loft insulation layer and wool lining. Am I too crazy for wanting to wear this style of mittens on an everyday basis? I just saw these Smartwool ones for a lighter-weight option. I may try them.
The only time of year I wear skinny jeans is winter, and I always go for dark washes. I’m crossing fingers that they go on sale at Nordstrom during the next few weeks. Try these Levi’s for a more affordable option. I’m wearing them today and love them, but prefer the fabric with more cotton, like the rag & bone above.
How fun is a printed sweater? I found this sweater a couple of weeks ago and can’t get it out of my mind. The aqua print is fantastic too, but it is too bright for my complexion. Check it out if you can handle the brightness.
I wear gold hoops almost every day, but I want other versatile earrings to change it up somedays, especially for Zoom meetings or Virtual Style Consultations.
My hair LOVES this. I usually stick to curly hair products but decided to give this a try. Well, I don’t want to go back. I use it as a mask, conditioner, and per Scotti’s recommendation, as a styling cream. My curls are looking better after two months of use. The hair oil is fantastic too. My mother-in-law wants to steal mine!
I haven’t gotten used to bulky winter boots either, so I’m following Shana’s recommendation with these. She swears by them, and I love the clean design and rich colors. Do you have a favorite pair of winter boots?
Similar to those Vagabond boots Shana loves, but I’m digging the brown accent on these. They’re selling out everywhere, but just found it in limited quantities on Zappos. Run!!!
I recently got a pair of pretty slippers (not the ones above), but they don’t cover my toes, which is fine for now. But I’m really considering these UGGs once winter comes. I’ll add them to the list my mother-in-law asks for every year. I’ve never owned UGG slippers, but gave my dad a pair a couple of years ago, and I steal them every time I visit. Definitely worth it.
14 l Barefoot Dreams Robe
A robe that is not black, white, pink or light blue. You have no idea how long it’s taken me.
This cream is so sheer you would never think how crazy hydrating it is. It’s probably my favorite part of my skincare routine, giving me a healthy and glowy look.
This oil might as well be my favorite part of my husband’s and my night skin routine. Though I’m letting my husband use it the most.
17 l Erborian CC Creme
I have Rosacea, and while I follow a big protocol to take care of it, I still get some redness I like to cover without a ton of makeup. This is what I use daily, and it makes my life easier. While a BB cream is only a lighter foundation, the CC cream stands for color correcting. My sister-in-law, a nurse, loves it and says that’s all she wears for her shifts.
I want to add some variety to my athleisure/loungewear with this deep color. It looks luxurious and chic. Of course NAADAM has great sustainable cashmere, so that’s a plus.
Every year I get HEATTECH layers for my kids, my husband, and myself. These are some of the most-worn layers during Fashion Week in February here in NY because they allow you to wear lighter coats. You get warmth and quality for a great value. I also want to get one of these Ultra Light Down Compact Jackets to wear under a topcoat — my parents love them when they visit.
Wear it under dresses, camisoles, button-downs, vests, and lightweight jackets. The HEATTECH technology has different levels and this one is the warmest.
Last year I got so excited with this bodysuit version, but it sold out in a matter of days and couldn’t get it. I love bodysuits, so I don’t have to deal with any extra length under my sweaters.
My mom got the regular fleece a couple of years ago, and I almost stole it from her, but she loved the fleece more than me. I’m very curious about this newer version with the windproof design.
This wishlist makes me feel like I’m adulting well and not eating my anxiety pretty much every day. Here’s to feeling human, cute and chic this winter 2020 – 2021. If you’re still shopping the sales, don’t miss our Black Friday & Cyber Monday page for allll the things worth shopping.
For more of this mom who refuses to wear loungewear every day, you can find me on IG (@julietatorresd). I recently came back from a 4-month break to take care of my mental health and would love to see you there.
