And here we are…the holidays. It truly doesn’t ever feel quite like holiday season until I start working on my Black Friday game plan. This year, my Black Friday picks are a bit more…comprehensive than in the past. Instead of simply rounding up cute pieces that caught my eye, I really leaned into the idea of making lists first, and then whittling down to the things I actually use & need. (I talked about this Black Friday strategy more in depth, here.)
Statement Coats, Cozy Clothes, Luxe Beauty & Home Essentials: My Black Friday Shopping Game Plan
I’ve actually tried to address a few reader questions, too, with the Black Friday shopping list below. Especially when many of your questions (what to bring on a road trip, which winter boots should I buy?, what’s the best puffer?) are also questions I’m mulling over myself.
So. What we have here is simply a list of items I’m currently considering. I used historical data to make an educated guess at which of these pieces will go on sale this month, but I do think it’s important to constantly assess what I *actually* need vs. what’s on sale. It’s too easy to get caught up in Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale madness, and end up with things that won’t stand the test of time.
I swear by Sweaty Betty base layers for skiing. They’re warm, wicking and cute! Once we’re off the slopes, I swap ski boots for squishy winter ones, and just throw an oversized turtleneck on over my base layers — the look is cute enough for most après-ski situations (see it on me, here).
SIDE NOTE: For those of you asking about ski pants…Sweaty Betty’s Astro Softshell ski pants are — easily!! — my favorite ski pants EVER. Super-warm, waterproof (even when hot chocolate has completely spilled on them), windproof, and comes in two lengths. Totally worth the cost (and they should go on sale this month).
Shop My Favorite Base Layers
Long, ultra-warm parkas certainly have their place (especially this year), but I usually find myself donning my short puffer jacket 90% of the time. My go-to — for years now — has been Lole’s Kayley Jacket (insanely lightweight & warm, super-cute on, and take 15% off with code THEMOMEDIT,) but this year I’m looking for something beyond the basic black (a decision I may live to regret — we’ll see). At the moment, I’m in love with this insanely puffy jacket from Sweaty Betty. The vibe is definitely along the lines of ‘cute snowman,’ but I’m here for it.
Shop My Favorite Short Puffers
Here are a few other short puffer jackets I can recommend (along with my longtime fav, Lole’s Kayley jacket).
ps. If any of the below jackets from Backcountry aren’t on sale…you can still use THEMOMEDIT to take 15% off of full-priced items.
I’m a HUGE Biossance fan (I’ve put all of my favorites in the shopping widget below), but I’m hoping there’s a Black Friday sale to try a few new products, namely this intriguely-described jelly cleanser and, for my soon-to-be-teenage son, Squalane & Tea Tree Balancing Oil.

I don’t quite understand why these backpacks are so good…nor why they are so expensive. What I do know, however, is that I’ve been using my Tumi backpack for years and years and years with no sign of slowing down. So. I’m hoping that there will be some sort of epic Black Friday sale, because these are 100% worth the investment.
Shop My Favorite Tumi Bags
Side note: I LOVE the one pictured above…but upon further investigation, it might be too small for me. Instead, I’m now eyeing up the Devoe Backpack.
To find the best deal, I suggest trying a few different retailers. My best bets:
To keep things simple, my favorite Tumi backpack styles are below.
If there was ONE THING in my closet that I wear almost daily, it’s a 100% silk cami. These camis keep me warm in the winter under wool sweaters, and cooler than anything else on the hottest summer day. I’ve worn them sightseeing in Greece with cut-offs, to fancy NYE parties with velvet pants, and with joggers around the house. I also machine wash mine on cold, and lay flat to dry. This method of washing does take the shininess away, but I still love the look of matte silk (and machine washing is the only thing that makes sense for my lifestyle).
Shop My Favorite Silk Camis
My most-worn silk camis are by Cami NYC, which typically has some sort of sale for Black Friday (and usually the best selection). My favorite style is still this one (fit is TTS). That said, I can almost always find these camis on sale other places as well. Some of my usual haunts (and other camis I love) below…
I’ve been coveting Linzi’s cute beanie with swappable pom-poms for a year now. I’m seriously hoping they’re part of the next Anthro sale (they were all sold out by Black Friday last year).
When Naadam goes on sale…I JUMP. These are, without a doubt, my favorite cashmere sweaters OF ALL TIME. Why? They’re the thickest, softest cashmere — sustainably made and sourced, too. You can see my full review of Naadam cashmere here. These are the kinds of pieces that have readers writing in to tell me how much they love their Naadam sweater.
Shop My Favorite NAADAM Cashmere
It’s embarrassing how much I love this thing. It rarely goes on sale, but if you manage to find some sort of discount, totally worth snapping up.
Shop My Favorite Dyson Products
Dyson typically does something for Black Friday, so I have high hopes for this year, too. Don’t sleep on their vacuums, either. The TME team fav — Dyson’s V10 Cordless Stick Vacuum is currently $150 off.
I have been stalking these sneakers since last spring. I love the edgy vibe and cool details…that aren’t overly obnoxious. They haven’t gone on sale yet, but…here’s hoping.

If my forty-something skin looks alright, that thanks, in large part, to Colleen Rothschild’s night routine, which I’ve been doing religiously for YEARS. If you only get ONE thing, it’s gotta be the life-changing, makeup removing cleansing oil…and for a new favorite, I’ve been really happy with their CBD oil (something I swear by after a night of prescription retinol). More favorites below.

Ugh, I keep trying to find comfortable underwear that is a little sexy AND doesn’t show any lines. These…are not that. They are, however, a little sexy, super-comfy, and the underwear I initially started wearing to bed. But now I just want to wear them alllll the time. Of course they’re annoyingly expensive. C’mon Black Friday sales…..

I just…I want this fire pit with a passion. Not 100% sure where to put it….(back patio? Save for the shore? For Michigan?) but I LOVE the idea of an almost smokeless fire pit. Can’t stop thinking about this one.
Man….we’ve gotta finish our bedroom. The big mirror I wanted is in, and I did(!!) get a plant(!!!), but…we still don’t have bedside tables, lights, a rug and…I don’t even know what else. Am hoping to finish this up while everything is on sale this month.
Shop My Favorite Bedroom Furnishings
Gah. I was hoping that — by now — I’d be able to say that THESE boots are my top pick for the year…but I’m still struggling. I did — just!! — get a hot tip from a friend who scored the Kinetic Conquest Sorels and LOVES them…but Oprah does too, so now they’re basically sold out everywhere. The boots below are probably my top pick? Hmmm….still deciding. (More options in the widget below).
Shop My Favorite Snow Boots
I think, in general, statement coats are a solid item to search for during Black Friday sale craziness, so I’ll put a few favs below. But. That said….this faux-leather Abercrombie puffer is SO GOOD. You can see how I’ve been wearing mine, here. (I wear a size small — fits great over sweaters.)

I like to use Black Friday to replace my favorite, worn-out kitchen gadgets, broken dishes, etc., I also happen to think that kitchen gadgets make seriously good gifts. This year I’m going to grab some espresso cups for Mike, and more silicon baking dishes to replace those annoyingly sized pans/muffin tins.
Shop My Kitchen Upgrades
J.Crew makes the best-fitting kid clothes out there — and *most* of Raines’ stuff is still in good enough shape to pass down to Pax.The tees are super-soft and comfy (we always get one collared tee for a dressier option), and the J.Crew flannel dress shirt is pretty genius: it’s soft (flannel) but thin, so it layers under suit coats or sweaters easily, and looks great with a tie.

My husband is such a pain to shop for…so once we find something that works, we’re all in. Right now, Levi’s classic pocket tee is Mike’s fav. Basically, it gets the sleeves exactly right. If the sleeve is too long or too wide or too flappy, he’s annoyed, but if it’s too tight (oh hey, look at my guns) he’s also annoyed. This one? Is perfect. (And kinda sexy, too.)
Road tripping in 2020 is, well, a trip. I’m seriously considering this Judy Preparedness Backpack, just in case. We have the ‘The Safe‘ at home, and it’s amazing. I’m hoping this company does something for Black Friday.
That said, there are a few other items that have been making our road-tripping much easier. Specifically? Ditching the hard-sided suitcases. While those are my top choice for airline travel, duffles are much easier to pack in the car.

Parachute’s linen bedding is the holy grail of bedding. The sheets feel so luxurious on your skin, and get softer with each wash. They’re cool in the summer, and warm in the winter (they don’t have that initial freezing feeling of cotton sateen), and they’re insanely durable — these babies won’t rip. They’re so much better than all other sheets that my boys have been begging me to put them on their beds, too. Parachute only goes on sale twice a year — and Black Friday / Cyber Monday is one of them.

There’s something about whimsical PJ’s that make staying in feel like a party. Get decked out in fun PJ’s, add cute slippers, beanies, lipstick…then make fun drinks and play board games. THIS is what we’ll be doing for most of the holiday season.
Shop Whimsical Family PJ’s
ps. Check out Printfresh PJ’s. They’re a team fav for good reason: the BEST prints. They’re a small, local business so I couldn’t get them into the shopping widget below, but Anthro is carrying a few pairs. However, it’s worth checking out the full line at Printfresh.com (and supporting a local business, to boot).
These sweaters are both stupidly expensive and annoyingly good. It’s like they’ve taken a basic cashmere sweater, added luxe touches like extra-long sleeves, perfectly-stretched-out necklines, and extra drape in the body…then infused them with graphic prints for personality. BOO I say BOO. Ugh. So good.
Shop Zadig & Voltair Sweaters
I don’t know why I’m drawn to a pretty green sweater every Black Friday…but that’s the rules, I guess.
