Every year, there are the obvious gifts we get for our boys: a book and candy for their stockings, or new ski boots (or, ugh, skis) because they outgrew their old ones, or even big “wow” gifts — like a new iPad, Oculus headset, Xbox, etc.
These gifts are easy — expensive, maybe, but an obvious choice. Something we know they’re going to love.
But more often than not, I find myself needing one more little something special for the boys. Often it’s because my mom or sister need a gift recommendation, or — in the case of Raines — the kid has a birthday immediately after the holidays, so what the heck do you get a kid who was literally just gifted everything he could possibly need?

But if you, like me, just need one more gift for a kid who technically needs nothing…here are a few ideas.
The gifts below, for the most part, will work for kids from elementary school through high school. Some will be on the quirkier side…but that’s kinda why we like them.

1 & 2. Sherpa Backrest & Adjustable Storage Lapdesk
Both of my boys love hanging out in their rooms, and adding a few pieces to turn their beds (or a little corner) into a cozy homework nook would be really well received. This Pottery Barn backrest is perfect for some added coziness & this lapdesk makes work get done easily.
3. The Original Oversized Microfiber & Sherpa Wearable Blanket
Pax got this wearable sherpa blanket as a birthday gift and, annoyingly, never wants to take it off. He thinks it’s hysterically funny. If your kid is on the older side, The Comfy Original (adult size) might be a better fit (Pax says it should fit really long).
4. Cozy Plush Heatable Lavender-Scented Stuffed Animal
My mom gifted each boy these lavender-scented stuffed animals last year. They can be microwaved and function as heating pads, and as silly as they are, both boys LOVED them. (Even my high schooler.) More animals here.
5. LED Strip Lights
This set of LED strip lights was a gift for Pax’s birthday a few years ago, and it’s the kind of small thing that makes SUCH a difference. The lights change color with the remote, can be installed anywhere, and has brought the kid so much joy. (And I think Raines wants some too.)
6. iWALK Mini Portable Charger for iPhone
Any kid with a phone needs a portable charger, and this mini one is cute and cord-free. A total win.
7. Personalized Pencils
Whether you put their name, something motivational or something funny (an inside joke, perhaps?), personalized pencils are always an easy gifting win.
8. Exploding Hand Soap
To wash your hands, you scoop out one of the little balls of soap, then squish it between your fingers. Deeply satisfying for any age.
9. Wooden Slingshot Toy
Don’t tell the boys…but the entire family is getting one of these wooden slingshots in their stockings this year.
Another great gift? Those tiny, one-shot Nerf guns but in a large enough pack for the whole family to play. There’s literally no age that wouldn’t have fun. (Hmmm…I’d even gift that pack to Mike — my hubs — and his brother.)
10. Toybox 3D Printer
This 3D printer might be the best kid-focused 3D printer yet. I love that it comes with hundreds of blueprints (that can all be customized), ensuring there’s literally something for every age.
11. Uniqlo Fleece-Lined Joggers
I don’t care how many sweatpants one has…sweatpants lined in faux-fur-esque fleece will ALWAYS be welcome. Pax has these and LOVES them.
12. Aerie Fluffy Sherpa Joggers
Or go full on fluffy jogger. I mean…SO SOFT, GAHHHH. These exact ones are sold out – but there are sooo many cozy looking ones on Aerie’s site it’s worth a scroll.
13. UGG K-Tasman II Embroidered Slipper
In the past, I’ve tried to foist off cheap slippers on my kids…but they would always steal my UGG slippers. The key here (like the joggers) is the shearling lining. Koolaburra by UGG is another really great option.
