Do we want to talk, or shop? Let’s just talk shop.
We’ve got faux fur on sale and faux plants on sale-(gimme OLIVE-the-trees!!!) Since we’re home anyway, Scout and Nimble’s Black Friday Sale is full of splurges like this beauty of an upholstered, cane back, lounger, easier to justify through the price-per-sit method. Serena & Lily becomes more reality than dreamy at 20% off (code TOGETHER) check out this textured, tasseled, two-toned throw pillow. CB2 and West Elm have all sorts of things that we might legitimately need like desks and chairs.
If you haven’t heard, we all sleep on Parachute Sheets — you might think together at this point, but no, we each have our own. They only go on sale twice a year, now is one of them. And while that sale is on, for those of us who plan to shower anytime soon, we’re restocking on luxury towels from Parachute to make the shower effort more worth it.
Weekly favorite finds are a strategic approach to the best of what’s on Black Friday Sale for your home, as well as a Black-owned business spotlight that also qualifies for Shop Small Saturday (and has great gifts!), plus two favorite local shops in our City of Sisterly/Brotherly LOVE for Shop Small Saturday, my top picks from tons of the big sales by retailer below too, and finally my favorite totes too — because we all totes need better totes. This post is stuffed full of goodness like your turkey was yesterday and your belly is today. Let’s do it.
In The Kitchen
Think soups, chili, stews, pork, one-pot pasta dishes. Beautiful enough to leave range-top in resting position, makes some delicious warmth and comfort food everyday. The colors are bold and fun. Mine is white, 13+years old, and still cooking with heat.
Just before Q1, my friend R got an Air Fryer and made the most delicious snacks ever in there. I’m fairly certain the most recent kitchen renovation he’s requested is in fact, building a kitchen around his air fryer. This is on my own wish list for my love of sweet potato fries.
We bake and make in large-batch; freeze, and pop muffins, breads, homemade waffles and pancakes, and pizza in one of these to reheat. We also often roast veggies in ours, and toast nuts, and you get the idea…all kinds of things. Not all of my kids can reach the wall ovens, but they’ve all mastered mitts and wooden spoons and cooking independently in the toaster oven.
We mostly make daily breakfast smoothies in this. We also make coconut milk and banana ice cream, more often than is possibly healthy to admit, and it’s also great for making soups that sometimes start in the dutch oven, and sometimes just get made entirely in the Vitamix. Easiest thing to clean in the entire kitchen.
My kids have asked me if we can start to kitchen compost almost as frequently as they ask when we’re getting a dog. The compost thing in a city house makes me nervous, but the kids are right, we can do it. I’m starting with this guy, I can live with him.
Patio + Backyard Upgrades | Distance Gathering
A beautiful way to define space, accent, and add green to any patio or garden, entrance or stoop. Also work well for kitchen herb gardens strategically located near where you actually cook. Also lovely indoors, if you have the space, and if you wish to see green all year, but don’t have that thumb, we’ve got indoor and outdoor faux plants below to fill these beauties with.
Loved for its less smoke – more heat, portability and ease of use, as well as its sleek design, Solo Stoves are, for good reason, largely backordered until after the holidays. This one is in stock, for now. Great gift for the whole family!
Easy, efficient, and good looking! Solo Stove’s latest and greatest after they heard we love their stoves and to eat! Great gift for the grill master in your family!
Comfy Cozy Cuddles At Home
Team favorite, on sale, in two sizes and five colors, two of which are ombre and super pretty. These lay well if you are planning to throw one over the arm of a chair or sofa, they last forever, and they’re easy to run through the laundry.
These faux beauties come in three colors and just feel super luxurious. We have many throws, and these are the kids’ favorites. My youngest has even perma-claimed one of them as her school blanket…she wraps it around her waist and hops in her desk chair with tea to warm up in the morning.
Classic patterned wool perfection on one side, faux fur on the other. Two of my favorite things met and had a baby, isn’t it beautiful! Makes a fantastic splurge gift. And is the favorite blanket to take outside for patio sits by the fire pit.
Available from Bearaby in cotton and velvet, and several other options and weights too, or find the Cotton Napper At West Elm. This is the mental health management gift of 2020. While they are pricey, if you think of them in mental health management terms, rather than as throw blankets, see how they suddenly seem cost-efficient? There is genuine comfort in resting under a weighted blanket, for your body, yes, but mostly for your mind. It’s a great way to calm down, in a good way. The blanket can’t fix the problems of the world, that’s our work, but it certainly can help reset us to feel better as we do.
Big Furniture On Huge Sale
This guy goes on sale rarely, but is one of my favorite sofas, and everyone who has one loves it! While he’s not on sale, he qualifies for free shipping through this weekend, which for larger pieces like this is significant. Also, he takes time, you choose your fabric, you wait many weeks, he comes eventually…so if a new sofa has been on your mind, now might be a good time to get one ordered.
This great piece is on sale! And makes for great storage for all the faux fur throws. And also gives us somewhere to kick our feet up, or to put a big round tray.
The headboard comes in two sizes and several fabrics, and you can choose from a selection of leg finishes. This is my favorite upholstered bed, more so, on major sale.
I have a minor obsession with swivel and oversized chairs, and this great one is on sale. He takes up some space, but if you have it, he also fills a room really well without being overbearing and is such a cozy place to sit.
Better Selfie Mirror Situations
Team favorite mirrors in all the finishes and sizes, but especially so in the oversized 48,” which is especially perfect over a fireplace mantel or a vanity in a bathroom.
I love this leaner for both it’s height and width — sometimes leaning mirrors are quite thin…this is not. And the rounded edges soften him to selfie mirror perfection.
The Bath Towel Refresh
We have a home stocked with these, and have for years and years. On sale, they are a great deal if you need to buy many towels, that will clean well, feel good and last.
These are a splurge, but on sale, one of the two times per year that will happen, and worth it.
Better Sleep With Fresh Sheets
It’s hard to even be tempted to try other sheets once you’ve slept on these. Two of us in this house love the linen set best, and we’ve got two lovers of the percale sets. We make all beds European Style (fitted sheet, duvet with cover, envelope cases). They legitimately have people sleeping better. I recently gifted them to a friend, and they said the same thing everyone says….life-changing. File them under self-care, we all need more sleep, and these will get you there.
Best bath mat I’ve seen in a long time! pssst…Laura, I’m looking at you! I’ve spotlighted local love Yowie before, and I’m right back to her because her well-edited selection of gifts and fun for our own homes is second to none in my eyes.
No one, I mean no one, starts more Good Trouble in terms of gifts in this town than Dana|Rae Paz. She’s been called the gift whisperer for good reason. I have plenty of pieces in my own collection, the two necklaces I never take off are both from her. And I also can’t count the number of birthday, Valentine’s Day, Christmas and Hanukkah texts I get from partners asking for gift ideas for loves that always end in secret hand-offs of these goodies. They say we’re in the Year of the Ear — she has the best cuffs, and small and large pieces to group…and while we’re all mostly still on Zoom, I’d say those are the worthiest investment right now. If anyone is asking, yes, I’d like the ones that start with F and are a four letter word…because #2020. She’ll help style, you’ll be fast friends, she’ll ship, and she’s got a pretty major sitewide sale going on right now.
Oh, our restaurant industry and what they’ve managed to overcome this year — just wow! We take food very seriously here in Philly…we’re absolutely spoiled by it in fact. Bibou was an amazing french BYO, a special occasion, date night, ooo-we-can-get-a-table-on-a-random-night spot that was just dining perfection, and then the pandemic shut our city, particularly our restaurant industry, down. Pierre and Charlotte and their daughters immediately pivotted to the most amazing take-out menu and did as many meals as they would have normally turned tables. I’m telling you there is no better French food in this city, and we’ll take it any way we can get it. Recently, they’ve pivoted again…to Bibou Boutique and their selection is amazing!!! It’s part French Charcuterie, part French Grocery, all LOVE and so delicious! And if you aren’t local, they have a great online shop as well-voilà! For your Favorite Foodie, the gift search just found 4 bells +++…start here!
