Sweatshirts have obviously had a big moment over the last few years and I’ve fully embraced this. My favorite style for keeping with my own sporty/designer style? The graphic sweatshirt.
What I love about the options available these days is that there are designs that level UP your outfit instead of dragging it down. Chic sweatshirts I’ll call them, especially for the sake of this article. And for party wear? I say heck YES.
The Easiest Holiday Outfit With A Sweatshirt: The Inspo
I was recently even more sweatshirt-inspired when I got the latest Clare V catalog. I’m already a major fangirl of hers, but this just sealed it for me. Yep. I want to combine sporty + chic + glam + comfy for my next holiday party and this combo does just that.
How I’m Wearing My Favorite Sweatshirt To A Holiday Party + 5 More Outfit Ideas
For my own take on this fun idea, I grabbed all the sparkle and shine and even some faux fur, put it all together in one outfit (don’t forget the bold lip) et voilà…a sweatshirt ready for a party.
This was so fun. The key is really glamming up everything else. A sweatshirt that refers to Paris or is written in French doesn’t hurt to keep up the chic vibes. Anthropologie also has a TON of great options right now.
1. Party In A Sweatshirt: With A Leopard Skirt
Starting with my take on the inspo outfit just makes sense. Having plenty of bling on, a fab little statement bag with some color and a bold lip take the skirt + sweatshirt combo up even more notches. (See my tips for wearing + tucking sweatshirts below!)
And if you want to go knee boot instead of flats here? I recommend these (but add more jewelry for shine if you go that route!)
2. Party In A Sweatshirt: With Gold Pants
I just got these pants in and they are amazing. They’re the famous Collette pant from anthropologie but in such a rad wearable crackled (soft) gold finish. I say wearable because sometimes super shiny is what you want, but sometimes a softer feel and less shiny is what you want. And these are what I want.
They do run a little big. I’d go down a size due to their amount of stretch. They are SO comfy for party pants though!
3. Party In A Sweatshirt: With Pink Plissé Pants
Sparkle in a whole Parisian-inspired vibe with this look featuring glitter sneakers, star earrings and yep, pleated wide leg mauvey pink pants. So fun, sparkly and feminine! I adore this sweatshirt btw. It’s one of my true favorites when I want an elevated comfy look.
4. Party In A Sweatshirt: With A Balloon Skirt
Feeling a little more preppy this holiday season? Well, look no further than this striped party skirt from Boden. I mean, it’s so fun. Still brought in a sporty touch with the puffer scarf and I’m picturing the combo and loving it. You could go silver western boots or silver heels here depending on your preference. And mix up the metals with lots of gold jewelry!
5. Party In A Sweatshirt: With Silver Jeans
Last but not least, I couldn’t resist including these super-shine silver jeans from Gap. Gap has been nailing the metallic trend this year and these pants are no exception. I love the idea of a sweatshirt balancing them out and also #peacoatsforever right? The color palette here just makes me happy. And those star earrings are so good I included them again. Perfect for the holidays!
Tips For Wearing + Tucking A Sweatshirt
If you have a shorter torso like me or are pairing the skirt with high waisted pants or a skirt, you’ll probably find the need to tuck or half-tuck the sweatshirt. That isn’t always an easy task.
Most of the time if I’m wearing pants the waistband works just fine for tucking the sweatshirt in (like above), but thicker fabrics can be a little trickier…OR in the case that your sweatshirt is boxy.
My top tips if the top isn’t cooperating is to A) wear a fitted cropped tank (this or this work!) underneath and tuck the sweatshirt under it OR B) use a hair elastic to gather the extra fabric into a little bunch at the center front or back and then tuck that underneath.
It takes a tiny bit of finagling but is totally game changing and so worth figuring out. Because, if you can get away with partying in a sweatshirt, wouldn’t you always want to do that? (Hint: the answer is yes.)
Please share pics with me if you wind up rocking a sweatshirt at a party! I’m hosting our bookclub December soiree and I’m totally gonna rock one of these combos!
