Dressing Up My Favorite Cashmere & Denim

Despite all of the different trends that come and go, there’s a timeless allure to the combination of comfort and style – easy and uncomplicated. And there’s nothing easier or more comfortable than a soft cashmere sweater with a pair of really well-made jeans. It’s a classic outfit formula that’s both effortless and chic – and one that could easily go from day to night with the right finishing touches.

My favorite way to dress up a classic cashmere sweater and jeans combo for night, is with a statement bag and some fabulous shoes. And when I want to get really fancy, I add some dangly earrings and red lipstick for an easy night out/date night/holiday party look. (And I’ll be comfy and warm the whole time.)

The Best Vince Cashmere Sweater & Frame Jeans…All Dressed Up

When it comes to investment pieces, I’d rather put my money towards versatile pieces that will stand the test of time — like cashmere sweaters and quality denim — over something that might only last a season or two. And this Vince sweater is my ultimate investment piece.

I first borrowed it from Shana a few years ago and immediately fell in love. It’s insanely soft and warm, and because of the denser (boiled) texture, the neckline is absolute perfection. It doesn’t flop around shape-lessly, but it also doesn’t feel like a restrictive neck brace like some turtlenecks can – and because it’s so soft, there’s zero irritation where it touches skin.

It’s also super versatile: Shana recently named it “Best Elegant Sweater” in her cashmere guide, and it looks just as good with ripped jeans or black trousers as it does with a denim maxi or faux leather mini.

I love it so much, I’ve been stalking it for a sale price for a while now. I love the coastal blue above and this cinnamon stick color, but there are a ton of colors to choose from. (The cinnamon stick pairs really well with Anastasia Beverly Hill’s liquid lipstick in Heathers – currently on sale!)

Size Notes: I sized up to a medium in this burgundy color to have a bit more length to wear it with shorter skirts and leggings. And even though this skirt is (obviously) short, the coverage of the sweater made me feel like it wasn’t over the top and it kept me warm.

Ok so back to my favorite way to wear it – with just a pair of comfy jeans. Last November I paired it with the Ditcher Cropped Jeans from MOTHER, but those have since sold out practically everywhere. This year, I snagged Frame’s Le Jane Cropped Straight Leg Jeans because they’re super similar but have a cool frayed hemline that looks especially awesome with a fun boot or a stiletto heel.

These Frame jeans have that same relaxed-fit, cool vibe of the Ditchers that I love dressing up with some fancy accessories. Last year I added a pair of gold boots and gold-detailed crossbody bag (this bag is similar) and proceeded to wear that outfit over and over all winter long.

This year I wanted to find a pair of stiletto boots that were also not insanely uncomfortable or difficult to walk in. These Marc Fisher boots are perfect – they slip on and aren’t too tight (they’re easy to get on and off despite not having a zipper). The 3.5″ heel is about as high as I want to should go, and I love the asymmetric shaft and volume of the slouchy silhouette. (And Nordstrom has them in a gorgeous dark red color I’m lusting after!)

I’ve had my eye on Loeffler Randall’s pleated bags and shoes for years now, and finally snagged this one – although the one I wanted is now on sale for less than the one I have. And it’s bigger…so I can fit more than just my phone and a lip gloss inside. Happy Holidays to me?

And if I wanted to dress it up even more? These earrings and this lipstick. Yaaaasssss.
