This is our monthly series called How We Wear It, where *we* show all of the different ways to rock a wardrobe basic. And by "we" I mean…all y'all. If there was One. Thing. our readers have communicated again and again, it's this: You want to see a wide range of body types represented here on ANMJ.
So. I'll show you how I've been styling my old standbys, and so will Cam. And then, dear readers, we want to hear from YOU. You can play along via our Linky party at the bottom (you can sign up at the bottom of this article or on Cam's page), you can send us an email (send it to either Cam or me), upload a pic to ANMJ's Facebook page, or use Instagram with the hashtag: #howwewearit or #anmj. As reader pics come in, I'll be keeping this page up-to-date.
Ready?
With a Peplum Top
(wearing: shirt - c/o Lucky Brand, I'm wearing a size M….shorts - hacked off an old pair of these… shoes – similar)
I'm loving long, slim shorts with peplum tops. I'm still too poochy for a gorgeously structured peplum….but a slouchy, slightly oversized peplum? It hides the pooch nicely. But the key (for me, at least) is to keep the shorts slim. I hacked off an old pair of skinny jeans, to get the slimness I needed. And frankly, long shorts (slim or no) look best with a heel. Sigh. Doesn't everything look better in heels?
HOWEVER. We're all about kid-friendly outfits, so I wanted to make sure that the peplum top + long short combo could play.

Yup. Love this silhouette, even in flats. I wore this outfit to Raines' final t-ball game…but spent most of it chasing Pax around. When he wasn't sitting with the team, of course. Poor guy couldn't figure out why he wasn't allowed to play.
Anyway. Long shorts + peplum is a win.
With an Off-The Shoulder Top
Here's my thinking: long, slim shorts are so conservative (at least for me)…so I try to offset them by showing a little skin. An off-the-shoulder top feels just right.
(wearing: old shirt - here's a cuter one…shorts - hacked off an old pair of these…shoes – similar on sale)
Kinda like cape tees and pajama pants. Two-year-old outfit perfection, according to Batman. (Or Superman. Depending on what's clean.)
With Short Jackets
I'm still loving the long chino shorts + blazer combination I talked about a few weeks ago. However, I've been playing around with long, slim shorts and a short jacket….
(wearing: jacket – similar…shirt...shorts…old shoes - but am DYING for these)
I think it works. There's something about the slightly high-waist of the short with the short jacket…it makes me look….leggy?
I don't know. Again, the four-inch heels might be part of it. Snort.
While I don't love my chino shorts with flats, I found that the short jacket + long shorts silhouette worked when I switched to my slimmer denim shorts:
This outfit was, uh, fully tested by chasing two boys around Grand Haven's farmer's market and playground. And yes – doughnuts were had by all. It isn't cherry season yet, but they did have fresh strawberry doughnuts. Bestillmyheart.
This is an easy way to dress up a nursing tank, BTW.

Now, onto Cam! She has also styled up her long, slim shorts three different ways….and like me, hacked off a pair of skinnies to do it! (Unlike me, she managed to get hers even. Sigh.)
Here's a sneak peek:
So awesome. Per usual. See the rest of Cam's outfits here!
Now, Readers! Over to you! Send in your pics to aintnomomjeans (at) gmail (dot) com. Or…use the linky tool below my signature. As always, I've dug through the ANMJ archives to pull out our older long shorts outfits.

I like them all. I love the neon flats. And the jacket chino combo is super pulled together!
I definitely liked mine better with heels too. The top one is my favorite of all yours!

Rise and Shine Mom
You knock it way out of the park every time. Love this one.
xo.
Love this idea! Gonna try cutting a pair of my old skinny jeans I no longer wear this weekend! Thanks!
Love this! Especially paired with the off-the-shoulder top. Thank you for saving those of us who can’t pull off shorties!
I love the cut off shorts. How comfy are your tieks? I’ve been looking at them for a while and can never make up my mind.
Ha, I can never get my cut-offs even, either!
And I love the idea of a softly structured peplum. I wouldn’t have thought of those shirts as being peplum, but that silhouette works better for me than the stiffer versions. Need to get!
Love love love the soft peplum silhouette–perfect for pooch hiding. Would love a shopping post on these shirts!
Totally stole your outfit with the blazer as inspiration for today’s outfit post! http://www.franticbutfabulous.com/2013/08/28/working-mom-outfits-of-the-week-day-to-night-bermuda-shorts-and-tank-top/
