If Shana’s only wearing sweatpants until Spring hits, I’m sitting around in nothing but oversized winter jackets. I don’t even need a shirt underneath. Just give me a super oversized, interesting-to-the-eye wrapping and I’ll happily hibernate until that sunshine comes back to stay.
Jackets are the only thing that seem to interest me in the world of fashion right now, as evident by my last handful of articles (uhm, oops, I didn’t realize that until right this moment). A lightweight puffer perfect for oceanside mornings and a quilted jacket that started this whole “I’ll just live in coats now, thanks” attitude are just two on my usual rotation.
But since these top layers are literally staying on my body whether I’m inside or out, from sun up to sun down, they count as, like, sweatshirts… right?
4 Oversized, Ridiculously Comfy Jackets Helping Me Enjoy Winter
I’m notorious for dressing for my mood, but I’m also a believer in the right outfit helping shape my mood, for the better. If I’m grumpy about the current season or weather of the day, the right color or silhouette or layering combo can really inspire some excitement for my day.
These four oversized winter jackets are doing just that – helping me find excitement to get dressed in these more dreary, chilly days of winter.
Leave it to Quince to make my dream leather jacket (at the most shockingly dreamy price).
I mean it. The amount of times I’ve pinned oversized leather jackets on my Pinterest boards is a bit silly, especially because I never really thought I’d find one I loved for a price I equally was pumped about. In fact, the We The Free Jealously Leather Moto is the jacket that haunted my dreams for the past couple of years, but $700 for a jacket just isn’t my thing. So when I found Quince’s 100% Leather Oversized Biker Jacket that looked almost identical, I nearly peed my pants.
This jacket from Quince fits my broad shoulders as if it was hand tailored to my frame and personal style. The body is modern and swingy, the hardware is heavy and high quality, and all of the little pockets and detailing are perfectly edgy.
I’ve been throwing this over everything from matching sweats to date night outfits and it makes every outfit better.
I moved towards this quilted jacket like a moth to the flame. If anyone was between my shopping cart in the aisle and this jacket displayed 15 feet to my left, I would have never known.
My mom is an incredible quilter which has given me a deep love for quilted everything, and once I spotted the colorful patchwork design of the Gee’s Bend x Target coat it was game over. I stood there googling Gee’s Bend, and although there was only an XS and XXL left on the rack, I knew it had to come home with me.
To my gleeful delight, the extra oversized fit was everything I love (and more), but there’s still a full range of sizes available online, too.
Well let’s just get this out of the way – yes, this jacket is from the men’s section. While I’ve been happily shopping through the men’s department my entire adult life, I actually didn’t know this one was a men’s style until I bought it, brought it home, and checked the receipt in the app on my phone.
As it turns out, my Target had multiple men’s pieces fully displayed and stocked in the women’s section, which I found totally rad for multiple reasons. I didn’t even check the sizing in store but simply tried the jacket on, loved what I saw, and threw it in the cart. I ended up sizing all the way up, as seems to be my theme lately.
I always love the idea of denim jackets but find myself being incredibly picky about them. A fitted, tailored denim jacket feels dated, not to mention hard to move in, which is why I was immediately drawn to the sweatshirt sleeves sticking out from this Levi’s Hoodie Trucker Jacket. The overall appearance is still very much canadian-tuxedo-esque, but it’s wildly more comfortable. With stretchy arms and an oversized body, I’ve been throwing this one on nearly every other day.
I’ve had a little collection of Free People’s Hit The Slope’s fleece line for many years now. They are soft, easy to move in, lightweight yet deliciously warm.
I scooped up their new shawl design this past fall and it’s easily the cuddliest version they’ve released yet. The body is softer, wider, and longer than the original Hit The Slopes Fleece Jacket, and it runs even more oversized (I wear a large in the original but preferred a medium in the shawl, and it’s still nice and big). It’s like your favorite cozy blanket was stitched up and given arm holes.
The shawl design is modern and gorgeous – I’ve never seen a fleece jacket like this before. I love throwing it over leggings and am usually grabbing for it if I’m taking my morning workouts closer to the beach. I can’t recommend this one enough for a workout/get-moving top layer. Uhm, or naptime.
