J.Crew’s Site Is Missing Plus-Size Models, So I’ll Do It For Them: A Try-On

J.Crew has been one of my favorite brands to shop for plus-size items for several years now.

I love how timeless and classic their pieces are, and while I love that they offer extended sizing in the majority of their clothes, there is one glaring thing missing. They have zero plus-size models on their website.

IMO this is a huge miss, because things look drastically different on plus-size versus straight-size bodies. So today, I am up for the challenge, I ordered as much as I could get my hands on and am modeling J.Crew plus-size pieces for any of you who are curvier or looking for extended sizing. This season you will find a few really pretty dresses, all of the Jackie O vibes, and interesting sweater silhouettes.

The Best of J.Crew Plus-Size: A Try-On

Wanna know my top quick picks? These are my absolute faves available in J.Crew plus-size right now.

Let’s get into it.

Sweater Lady Jacket

sweater jacket (2x) | skirt (3x)

When I initially tried this “cardigan” on, I loved it, but immediately thought to myself, this feels too thick for a cardigan. And after reading the J.Crew description, it’s actually a sweater jacket. It has the softest throwblanket-like feel, and will certainly keep you hella warm in colder temperatures. It’s deliciously soft, and I am a big fan of the wispy eyelash style texture.

FIT NOTES: I am wearing the 2X and it’s certainly an oversized fit. If you are looking for that perfect slouchy goodness, then order your normal size to achieve that look, otherwise size down for a more classic fit.

I paired the sweater coat with a simple yet pretty slip skirt. J.Crew is one of my favorite retailers for slip skirts, and I find that they tend to fit me quite well. My only qualm with this skirt is that I wish it were a bit longer on me. I personally am on the hunt for a dramatically long slip skirt, so this one didn’t quite fit the bill for me.

TBH, I really love this outfit combo, a simple slip skirt with an oversized textured cardigan… it’s perfect for any of you office girlies! ps. adding a pop of color to an all-black or neutral outfit, is one of my favorite ways to add interest to my look.

9″ Demi-Boot Crop Jean

sweater (2x) | jeans (37) | sneakers (tts)

Jeans are by far the most challenging category of clothing for me. I have a significant waist-to-hip ratio difference, and most times find that I have to purchase jeans that fit in my thighs and hips and take them in for alterations at the waist. But the J.Crew plus-size Demi-boot cropped jeans fit me like a glove fresh out of the package! They’ve got the perfect amount of stretch that I look for in jeans, and give me maximum jean comfort that is rare to find in jeans.

These jeans are an absolute dream and make my peaches look oh-so-good too. I attribute this to J.Crew’s choice to place the pockets slightly closer to the middle seam, which creates more of that bubble butt effect.

Giselle V-Neck Sweater Blazer

The Giselle v-neck sweater gives me all the quiett luxury vibes that have been making waves in the world of fashion. It feels like a piece that the iconic Jackie O. or Princess Diana would have worn. It’s incredibly high quality and the material has a substantial thickness that gives it the most elegant drape.

FIT NOTES: For the perfect drape, that is ever so slightly oversized, order your normal size.

Limited-Edition Anna October© X J.Crew Patchwork Skirt

top (2x) | skirt (24)

The limited edition Anna October© X J.Crew Patchwork Skirt might just be my favorite item I have ever purchased from J.Crew. It’s freaking cool, it’s sexy, it’s extraordinarily unique (especially for plus). TBH, I know nothing about Anna October, but I fell in love with her pieces in the J.Crew collaboration and think the collection is truly stunning.

The featherweight off-the-shoulder top is also a part of the Anna October collection, and to my surprise, it’s the first piece of cashmere that I’ve tried that doesn’t itch! When I say this has never happened, I mean it, I typically get itchy immediately with just 5% wool items. This 100% cashmere sweater is the first time I finally understand the hype around why people rave about cashmere.

I absolutely loved both of these pieces so much, and think that they are perfect for date night. My only issue with the skirt is that there was a bit of rippling at the zipper on the side (photographed above). But even still it’s such an incredible piece that I will be keeping it.

FIT NOTES: If you are hippy like I am, you might have a bit of rippling with the skirt, but trust me it’s worth it. Both the skirt and the top fit TTS.

New Cropped Barn Jacket

jacket (3x) | pants (24) | mules (tts)

Gahhh, I LOVE this cropped barn jacket! It’s absolute perfection and fits me like a glove. As a petite plus-size babe, with a pretty short torso, I gravitate towards anything that is cropped. It just works so well for my body type and accentuates my assets 😉 in all the right places.

jacket (3x)

This jacket feels like the same high quality as Barbour, and feels very reminiscent of that style of jacket. I love how the gold detailing pops with the deep olive hue of the jacket, and it feels both sleek and timeless. This jacket is a love love love for me!

top | jacket (3x) | pants (24) | mules (tts)

FIT NOTES: The jacket sits right above my hips, and is the perfect cropped length where my middrift wouldn’t show. I am wearing the 3X which is my typical size for jackets. It’s roomy enough to fit sweaters underneath.

Curvy Kate Straight Leg Pant & Cropped Garçon Shirt

top (24) | pants (24) | mules (tts)

Office girlies, listen up: you need these curvy Kate pants! They are the best pants for anyone looking to wear a perfectly tailored work pant. The curvy Kate is specially designed for babes with hips, bums & thick thighs in mind. The pants feature a longer rise, narrower waist, and a contoured waistband, and are made of J.Crew’s four-season stretch, which never loses its shape and is perfect for all day wear.

top (24)

I already own several of the cropped graçon button up shirt and it’s an absolute winner for me. It’s classic, it’s timeless, and it’s the perfect white button-down top. I’ve come to realize that I’d much rather wear a cropped button down and I actually donated all my longer and more oversized button-downs last month because they just don’t work for me. But the cropped, she totally does!

Sydney Wide Leg Pant & Chunky Crewneck Sweater

sweater (2x) | pants (24) | heels (tts)

When I was perusing J.Crew’s website for plus-size picks, I knew that the curvy Kate pants would fit me, but was curious to see if other styles would fit. And they totally did! I actually prefer the Sydney wide leg pant a bit more than the Kate only because they are a wide leg, which is what I tend to gravitate towards. These are the teeniest bit tighter in my hip area, but the overall fit was still spot on.

sweater (2x) | pants (24)

And again, J.Crew really came through with these pants because they make my bum look incredible, and there is zero waist gapping!

sweater (2x)

I loved the cut of this sweater, but began itching as soon as I put it on. J.Crew’s super soft material is made of part wool and alpaca and it’s so uncomfy for my ultra sensitive skin. If wool doesn’t bother you, then the silhouette is definitely one to consider.

V-Neck Cotton Blend Cardigan

cardigan (3x) | pants (24) | sneakers (tts)

I am decidedly not a cardigan girlie. But with my upcoming move to Nashville, I do think I will be wearing cardigans more as jackets, which is why I decided to give the v-neck cotton blend cardigan a try. It certainly didn’t give me butterflies, and while in theory, it’s a perfectly fine cardigan it was a no-go in my book.

cardigan (3x) | pants (24) | sneakers (tts)

This cardigan didn’t match up to the quality level of the other pieces I purchased and I didn’t love the length. I regretted not opting for the cropped version, because I think it would have looked more similar to the photos of the model in the longer version.

cardigan (3x)

FIT NOTES: I ordered the 3X and think it was too oversized for me. I’d should have ordered my normal sweater size 2x and opted for cropped instead of full length.

Raglan Fitted Waist Crewneck Sweater

sweater (3x) | pants (24) | sneakers (tts)

I was pleasantly surprised to find that this sweater looks very similar on me as it does on J.Crew’s model. The quality is top notch and I really like the design of the sleeves which reminds me of a barrel leg jean, but for sweaters.

Of all the sweaters I tried the Raglan is the most fitted and it does run a bit on the smaller side. I personally think the detailing is so pretty, and while I don’t typically wear gray, this gray looks great on!

sweater (3x)

sweater (3x) | pants (24) | sneakers (tts)

I really love how this sweater looks with wide leg pants, and think it would pair well with a light wash jean too.

FIT NOTES: runs slightly small, consider sizing up one size.

Well gang, that was a marathon, and I have to say there is a lot to love on J.Crew’s site right now. Cheers to finding great plus-size pieces!

& J.Crew if you’re reading this, feel free to consider this as my application to be your next plus-size model.
