Is anyone else obsessed with watching Jenna Lyons on the Real Housewives of New York? I was just fascinated by every outfit she wore…I remember seeing her on Oprah back when she was with J.Crew and just drooling over her effortlessly cool style. Mixing patterns perfectly? Sequins in the daytime? Mixing denim with everything from feathers to blazers to faux fur? Yaaaas.
Even before Jenna Lyons joined J. Crew (and after she left, obviously), they’ve long been a go-to brand for our entire team. J.Crew coats are consistently at the top of our list every winter, their cashmere sweaters are a no-brainer (especially given the number of styles and colors they come in), this one-piece swimsuit is one I’ve personally bought in multiple colors (see it on, here), and their jewelry is simply iconic.
7 Things from J. Crew to Add to Your Closet Right Now
So since I obviously always want all the things from J. Crew, it’s nice when I have the opportunity to try things on in-store. I love being able to feel the fabrics and test out the sizes. It’s usually J.Crew’s coats (stay tuned for that review!), but this time I was loving their denim above all else (and, of course, their sweaters), as well as a few more gems worth sharing. Here are seven J.Crew pieces worth grabbing right now (and most of them are on sale!).
1. Top Pick? THESE. JEANS. (J.Crew Denim Trousers)
jeans (27) | sweater set (xs)
My TOP pick are these leg-lengthening denim trouser jeans. I love the high rise fit, the wash, that hemline…and although I sized down (I typically go down a size in higher rise cuts), reviewers say they run slightly small (size range is 23 – 37). These jeans are available in regular, petite, and tall inseams, too.
(I also have to shout out this sweater set that’s currently on sale – I love it so much I want it in the red…aaaand maybe the black as well!)
I wanted to include a picture that shows the higher rise of the jean. So good for snatching everything in! They also come in a darker wash, a dark rinse pintuck version, and a black version that would be so good for holiday parties.
Style Them With…

LEFT: wool-blend jacket (xs), RIGHT: shacket (xs) | bag, BOTH: jeans (27) | bodysuit (m) |
J.Crew’s oversized, wool-blend jacket (above, left) feels different than anything I have. The fabric is thick and heavy and therefore warm, but surprisingly not scratchy. Size down, though–it’s definitely oversized. I’m wearing an xs here and could probably go with the xxs (a size I never wear).
J.Crew’s wool-blend shirt jacket is super warm (and again, not itchy!), and is also available in navy (especially good with the gold detail).
2. Next Top Pick? J.Crew’s Skinny Flare Jeans
jeans (28) | bodysuit (m) | sweater set (xs)
This is my second top pick–J.Crew is obviously killing it in the denim department. These skinny flares are slim in the hip and thighs and have a perfectly flared full-length leg. They come in classic, petite, and tall sizes for the perfect fit, and in a number of colors and washes.
I also really liked the dark-wash version of this jean:
jeans (27) | cardigan (xs) | shoes
I sized down in the dark wash pair (they didn’t have my usual 28 in store) and found that both sizes work! The 28s (my typical size) were a comfortable, “normal” fit (if that makes sense), while the 27s kind of sucked everything and were…well…tighter. I’d wear my normal size for a day-to-day look and size down for a going out/holiday party vibe.
3. Make It Interesting: A Quirky Cardigan
cardigan (xs) | chambray pants (4)
I fell in love with several J.Crew cardigans this fall, starting with this checkered one and the v-neck, white-tipped one (worn with the dark wash skinny flares, above).
Styling tip: I mismatched the buttons of the checkered cardigan on purpose to give it more of a textured look and I like the way it falls, giving more shape to the waist.
ps. the pants I’m wearing here are on final sale, but they’re super soft, lightweight, and made from Lyocell, that fabric I love!
4. The Best Black Trousers: J.Crew’s Essential Pants
pants (4) | jacket (4) | bodysuit (m) | shoes
I don’t know if I’ve ever had a pair of black pants fit me this well. It’s like they were tailored for me. J.Crew’s Essential Pants are great for those of us with a bigger booty/hips + smaller waist, and, like J.Crew’s denim line, they’re available in plus sizes, as well as petite, regular, and tall inseams.
I sized down one size because of the high rise, something I typically do.
pants (4) | sweater (s) | shoes
I love how these pants can easily be dressed up/down, worn to work, worn out at night, etc.
pants (4) | blazer (2) | bodysuit (m) | shoes
I mean…this suit makes me wish I still had an office job. I’d obviously wear something a little less revealing underneath to work, but…this blazer could also be super sexy for date nights.
5. Channel Chanel: J.Crew’s Lady Jacket
Lady jackets are everywhere right now, but J.Crew has been doing them for years – and they’ve perfected them, IMO. I love the structured shoulders on this one and the cropped fit (without the shorter sleeves!).
If you prefer your jackets a little less structured, but still want that feminine, romantic vibe of the Lady Jacket, J.Crew has two other options I also really liked:

LEFT: jeans (28) | jacket (s), RIGHT: jeans (27) | shirt (xs)
J.Crew’s Vintage Rib Striped Lady Jacket (above, left), is more like a thin sweater/thick tee than a jacket and I love that it can be worn like the shirt that it is. Runs small, though! I’m wearing a small (but would probably be more comfortable in a medium).
J.Crew’s Lady Shirt Jacket in Luster Crepe (above, right) is different than anything else I currently own – I love the fit and the gold details. This one would be super easy to dress up or down, too.
6. I Love Satin for the Holidays (J.Crew Gwyneth Slip Skirt & Dress)
sweater set (xs) | skirt (s) | shoes (I tucked the straps back)
I mean…who doesn’t love a little shine for the holidays? This skirt comes in a TON of colors (many of them on sale!) and in classic or tall sizes. The waistband doesn’t dig in and the fabric drapes well – overall, this skirt isn’t flimsy at all (like other slip skirts I’ve tried). I’m wearing a size small here, which follows the sizing chart exactly (I’m typically a size 6).
Styling tip: There’s something about the contrast of a delicate, shiny fabric + a cozy chunky sweater that I just love, especially for the holidays.
I also tried the slip dress version of the Gwyneth slip skirt (same fabric that drapes so well), and it’s great.
dress (2) | cardigan (s) | shoes
Available in sizes 00-24, and a number of colors, too. I agree with reviewers who say the fit of this dress is perfect – it falls nicely over curves without clinging to the middle.
7. My Favorite J.Crew Cashmere Sweaters: Classic Crew & Shrunken
I mean…you can never go wrong with J.Crew cashmere. I have cashmere sweaters I’ve literally been wearing for years from them. Above, I’m wearing J.Crew’s classic cashmere crew (always an easy win). Size up for a slouchier look, or stay TTS for an almost-cropped fit.
And, of course, on my way out of the store I found one more sweater I just had to try – their newer shrunken fit, this time in a cozy cable-knit.
old jeans, similar here | sweater (s) | slides
Shana has this one as well and loves it. They all come in a TON of colors, which I love!
