Jenni Kayne Plus-Size Sweaters Review (FINALLY, Cashmere That Doesn’t Itch)

0

If I am being totally honest, I don’t really like sweaters. There I said it. They often feel too big, too chunky, too hot, take up too much space, and don’t even get me started on how uncomfortably itchy they can be. Even still, I love sweater weather. Oxymoronic, I know…

My disdain for sweaters started at a very young age. I blame my mom for sending me to preschool in a chunky turtleneck that truly was the bane of my 4-year-old existence.

Jenni Kayne’s Plus-Size Cashmere & Cotton Sweaters Are Worth The Hype

Fast forward a few years, and I’m actually loving Jenni Kayne’s sweaters. Not only do they come in extended sizing, but she makes a 100% Mongolian cashmere sweater that doesn’t itch — unlike countless cashmere sweaters I’ve tried in the past.

4-year-old Kat would not believe it.

As you can imagine finding a sweater I actually like, is really REALLY hard. Recently, during one of our TME meetings, Shana asked me to give sweaters another go. I agreed, and decided to try Jenni Kayne first. I have another post coming soon detailing all of my favorite places to shop for plus-size sweaters.

But today, let’s talk Jenni Kayne cashmere and 100% cotton sweaters.

You see, my problem with cashmere, is think it is the most uncomfortable fabric that I’ve ever put on my body. It’s itchy, it often makes me feel like I am going to develop a rash, and it’s always been a zero out of ten do NOT recommend from me. I honestly thought that people were lying when they would claim that cashmere is the softest and most luxurious fabric available.

That is…until I tried 100% Mongolian cashmere. I ordered three sweaters from Jenni Kayne:

Let’s Start With My Favorite: Jenni Kayne Cropped Cashmere Cocoon Cardigan

Did I ever think I would be writing a blog post where I proclaimed that my favorite piece (maybe ever) would be a cardigan and cashmere?! No, no I did not. But here I am, absolutely stunned by how deliciously soft Jenni Kayne’s cocoon cropped cashmere cardigan is. Guys, it’s fucking fantastic.

When I say I have never tried cashmere that is actually soft on my body, I MEAN NEVER! I have tried hundreds of cashmere sweaters over the years, and have hated all of them. But the minute I slipped into this 100% Mongolian cashmere sweater, my jaw literally dropped (and as luck would have it, I even caught my reaction on camera).

I’m well aware that I am one of the biggest label-loving people on the team. I am usually more than willing to drop a pretty penny (okay, thousands), on the pieces for my forever closet. But Jenni Kayne’s nearly $500 dollar cardigan was not on my bingo card. However, the details, that deviously soft feel on my skin, the perfectly cropped fit… gahhh, it’s dreamy, it’s love, it’s worth it 😍

Not A Keeper, This Time: Jenni Kayne Chloe Crewneck

While the next two sweaters are still quite good, nothing compares to the cashmere. But anyway, let’s get into my thoughts on Jenni Kayne’s cropped 100% cotton sweater…

My introduction to Jenni Kayne happened a few years ago, when I decided to take the plunge and order all of the 100% cotton sweaters I could find. And to my surprise, I fell in love with Jenni Kayne’s cropped cotton sweaters. I kept my absolute favorite and honestly hadn’t given much thought to finding another sweater to replace it.

This season, Jenni Kayne has a bigger selection of 100% cotton sweaters. They come in gorgeous colorways, but are a much thicker, more densely woven sweater, which TBH, is a bit too much for me. But the softness, the gorgeous colors, and overall design of these cotton sweaters are still swoon worthy. I just know with my body that runs hot, hot, hot, would be too toasty in this one.

If You Like Long, Oversized Sweaters, This One’s For You (I However, Do Not)

The last of the bunch, is a sweater that I think most people would love, I however, do not.

Yes, Jenni Kayne’s oversized cotton fisherman sweater fits me exactly how an oversized sweater is supposed to fit. It drapes well, it’s long enough to cover my bum, and it has that weight that most people look for when they are purchasing this kind of sweater.

But, I have come to the realization that I don’t like oversized sweaters. IMO, they just don’t work for my ultra curvy, 5’2″ frame, and I can confidently say I won’t be purchasing long oversized sweaters again any time soon.

These kinds of sweaters look incredible on Amy and S, but they just don’t do it for me. So while, technically this is a good sweater, it’s just not the one for me. I’m just a girl that will forever need a cropped, lightweight sweater, which for me just so happens to be that damn cashmere cardigan.

While, I will never be the babe with a closet full of chunky sweaters, I will always be in love with sweater weather season. Stay tuned for more plus-size sweater try-ons and blog posts from me.
