I’m not typically a jewelry person…but come summer, I like a little something to perk up my daily uniform of white tank, denim shorts. And layering on colorful little necklaces (plus my usual swipe of turquoise eyeliner — Urban Decay’s deep end) has been juuuuuust the thing to make my basic outfits more interesting.
12 Seriously Cute & Colorful Necklaces For Summer
The vibe I’m looking for is playful, rather than precious. And while I happily layered two colorful necklaces together, one will add a nice pop of color when paired with a gold (or silver) necklace, too.
Per usual, to shop, click on the photos or the link below them.
1. Cali Necklace (Gold Rainbow)
This is one of the necklaces I’m wearing above. It’s by NY designer Vanessa Arizaga who was inspired by Puerto Rico (her father’s birthplace), and I LOVE it. The ‘shark tooth’ charm is brass (aka not a real tooth) and is dipped in gold. The necklace can also be worn as a bracelet, wrapped around your wrist.
2. Sprinkle Beaded Necklace
This is the other necklace I’m wearing in the photo above. I’ve been online stalking/drooling over Roxanne Assoulin’s colorful pieces for years, but never found The One (and the prices are just high enough to pause and be picky — this one is $75, for example). Anyway, I love this necklace. Glass beads, a gold clasp, layers beautifully and looks especially cute with t-shirts.
3. Yuri Necklace
This necklace is actually larger than you’d expect — it *almost* reads as a statement necklace. But the design is so fresh and modern that it’s a pretty cool twist on a big gold chain. This would be a rockstar piece with a t-shirt. And yes, that IS an organic pearl.
4. Necklace Chicles
This necklace is made in France…and is basically the stuff 12-year-old dreams are made of. But it’s just sophisticated enough to totally work (and would completely make an outfit). Leave it to the French to nail that playful, never-too-old-to-wear-this vibe. #wink
5. Puka Shell Beaded Necklace
If you have a 16″ necklace that needs a little extra oomph…try throwing this on with it. It’s that in-between length (and thickness) that can also bridge the gap between a choker and a longer, chunky pendent necklace, too.
Also, the colors are just so pretty.
6. Multi Coral Beaded Necklace
This gorgeous thing is chunky, playful and totally fun. It’s thick enough to stand on its own, even when paired with a crewneck tee. Perfect for summer.
7. Mixed Bead Gold-Tone Layered Necklace
Such a good example of pairing a colorful necklace with a stack of gold ones. Doesn’t get easier than this.
8. Beaded Disc Choker Necklace
Another shorter necklace that is thick enough to hold its own with a t-shirt…yet is just delicate enough to easily pair with other gold necklaces. (And if you look closely, there’s small gold discs between some of the glass beads, pulling it all together.)
9. Gen Seed Bead Layered Choker
Oh geez I love this one. Just playful, easy, cute.
10. Horn Layered Beaded Necklace
I’m a pretty big sucker for turquoise + red, and this one is perfection. Love the texture mix, too. Another necklace that’s dead easy.
11. Scarlet Gold Collar Necklace In Multi
This necklace is the most delicate of the bunch, so would look especially gorgeous mixed with delicate gold jewelry. Yet…worn alone the vibe would still be ‘delicate little necklace’ rather than ‘chunky beads’. Truly a unique and gorgeous piece. While I love the rainbow, there’s also a bright blue that would mix well with silver necklaces, or a turquoise version that I might…like…even….better? Hmmmm. Can’t decide.
12. The Brighter The Better Patchwork Necklace
This necklace is 21.5″ long, and has an almost campy feel. But that’s just part of it’s charm. Throw it on, forget it.
Happy summer, gang.
