One of my favorite end-of-year activities is planning out my holiday outfits. (Although it did take a couple years of not going many places during the holiday season for me to adequately appreciate an excuse to wear feathers and velvet heels.) Now I just love knowing there are sequin and party attire somewhere in my future. It’s a serious mood booster that gets me through these cold winter months AND the pre-holiday sales make it wayyy better on my wallet. Heh.
I find Saks to be the perfect place to both gather festive outfit inspo and splurge on a couple pieces for the season… especially when there’s a Friends & Family Sale going on. Their new arrivals tab is so dang exciting to click through and their sale selection is never short of fantastic. Consider my Saks cart perpetually full.
9 Key Pieces To Prep Your Holiday Wardrobe, All On Sale At Saks Fifth Avenue
Take 25% off full-price items during Saks’ Friends & Family Sale today until 12/06. Now’s your chance to do all of that holiday outfit planning. It’s prob the most fun you’ll have on a random Thursday night I’m sure ;).
To help plan out some festive ‘fits, I’ve put together a list of 9 key pieces that feel super fresh & make holiday dressing really dang easy. Most of these pieces (with the exception of prooobably the fancy dresses) can be worn multiple ways, too, which we love.
Full disclosure, a lot of these pieces are in the mid-designer price range, and a handful are splurges. I did, however, include a bunch of under $200 pieces for some more budget-friendly holiday finds. But you guys, all of this stuff is really THAT good. The under $200 picks are noted!
Holiday Key Piece 1: A Show-Stopping Dress
You know the ones. The ones that make your heart beat fast and live in your shopping cart for a day or two allowing them to haunt your dreams enough to finally hit “purchase”. I’m talking those special things. I seriously combed through each dress in the sale (each. one.) to bring you my top picks, btw. Now go swoon.
Holiday Key Piece 2: Jeans That Can Be Dressed Up
Having a nice par of jeans on the ready is a true lifesaver when it comes to last minute events. Pair with a pretty sweater or a sexy top + some holiday heels to make them party-ready. (P.S. You can find all of those things below.)
Styling Tip: Go for jeans that have a more tailored feel or a wider, structured leg & skip any holes or distressing if you’re trying to fancy ’em to the max.
Holiday Key Piece 3: A Festive Pant (Hint: Faux Leather, Sequin or Silk)
Go crazy here! Any texture in any color is appropriate (well, in my opinion). Loud pants can always be toned down with a black top & some simple shoes if necessary – but get creative and have some fun.
Styling Tip: I love maximizing my fun pants’ wearability by pairing them with sneakers and a sweatshirt. Sounds a little weird, looks a lotta cool. (Not the right phrasing there but you know what I mean.) It’s a genius outfit combo if you’re willing to go for it.
Holiday Key Piece 4: A Pretty Sweater
To layer over a silk dress or to pair with your fave jeans — a pretty sweater can do it all. I love going for ones with a pop of color, a pretty print or a fun detail for holiday parties.
Styling Tip: Give your dresses a skirt feel by throwing on a sweater (and cropping it with a hidden belt or French tuck of sorts) to freshen it up and lower that cost per wear!
Holiday Key Piece 5: A Sexy Top
I feel that I don’t really need to explain the need for a sexy top during the holidays (or actually, any time). Right? These six are just my top favorites from the sale. I want each and every one.
Styling Tip: Wear with anything & everything. Jeans, skirts, faux leather, velvet, sequin, shorts (do it and document for us), PJ pants (?? why do I want to try this now?). Sexy tops can do no wrong.
Holiday Key Piece 6: A Fancy-Looking Puffer
Love a puffer with a really luxe fabric. These look super cool with allll the fun pants (velvet, silk, corduroy, sequin) and obviously jeans while sacrificing 0 warmth. A high-quality puffer is such a good sale buy.
Styling Tip: Choose a puffer with a metallic or shiny sheen to add a bit of festive pizzazz. It’s just a little bit more fun than matte.
Holiday Key Piece 7: A Gorgeous (Yet Warm) Coat
We do not play around when it comes to warmth. A pretty coat that is definitely warm is totally necessary in a holiday closet, not to mention a winter one. I’m currently obsessing over faux fur and pretty plaids, can you tell?
Styling Tip: Wear these over both your fancy dresses AND workout joggers if you’d like. No time to be fabulous like the present. It works.
Holiday Key Piece 8: A Fab Winter Boot (For Snow Or Height)
If you’ll be knee-deep in snow, opt for the top three boots for extreme warmth and waterproofing. If you just want a bit of a heel, the bottom three boots will offer just that + some sharpness. Just stay out of the wintry mush if you’re in suede haha.
Styling Tip: Go for a higher boot if you’re usually in cropped jeans & pants to eliminate cold ankles. Also, remember that those (usually ugly,) thick, fuzzy socks are reeeally easily hidden in wider boots. If you know, you know.
Holiday Key Piece 9: A Pair Of Holiday Shoes (Think Metallics & Pops Of Color)
These holiday-ify any outfit. And I mean any. Nobody will question you if you show up in shiny silver loafers. So darn pretty.
Styling Tip: Double the festiveness and layer on some shiny tights or even try that heel + pretty sock trend. Don’t knock it!!
Holiday dressing is just so much fun. Hope you got inspired!
