Ceci and Grace are obsessed with bike shorts, leopard prints, cargo pants, white sneakers, tie-dye, utility boots, moto booties, ruffles and puff sleeves, graphic concert tees, faux-wrap tops, leggings, comfy cozy loungewear and all the gender fluid athleisure in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Your tweens too?
In other words:#whatmomworeinthe90s.
Conceptually, I’m calling this “back to school/old school.”
Tweens, Not Twins
Grace will simply state, “We aren’t twins, we just share a birthday.” Ceci always adds, “SHE, was born on MY birthday, and we DO NOT look alike.” #sisterhoodinanutshell
Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Kids’ Edition: Cute & Cool Clothes For Tweens
One thing these two have in common, for sure, aside from a birthday, is a love of the NSale and a good try on sesh. We can argue if they look alike another day.
For now, cooperatively, they take issue with the categories girls and boys, and shop from both.
And they also teamed-up on a position statement for why they should keep all.the.boots. We’ll share them, they say.
For reference, Grace is 9-years-old, and almost 4′ 10″. Ceci is 11-years-old, and just a hair under 5′ tall. They both wear a size 10/12 clothing (shown) and will likely size up to 12/14 before we can blink. For five more minutes, they are both a size 5 shoe.
1. ’90s 2.0 | Biker Shorts + Concert Tees Forever

This, no doubt, is probably what I’ll see my girls in most often after school this fall. They dance, they skate, they play and they chill. Grace threw a skirt over this outfit the other night and we went to dinner. Ceci popped a jacket on to run errands with her brother. And yes, their brother challenged them both to name and sing three Rolling Stones and three ACDC songs, and they did. PS: Grace, is the pickiest human alive when it comes to shoes. These boots zip up the inside, so they are easy on/off, and she reports they are super-squishy comfy too.
2. He/She/They Athleisure: Joggers, Leggings & Sport Shorts

Grace loves nothing more than a soft, comfy “set” and apparently, this is the comfiest cosiest. Ceci tried all the sports bras before deciding that this is her top pick. The Zella Live-in joggers she initially said felt “weird”…but ended up loving after a few hours in them.

Grace refuses leggings, she’s only in them here because her sister styled her so. Ceci, who lives in them though, tried all.the.leggings and loves these two pairs best. She’s also obsessed with the crop cut of this hoodie, as is Grace with the concept of a sleeveless shirt.

These are Grace’s most lived-in joggers, no contest. All three of my kids love the traditional adidas joggers Ceci is sporting. And all three of my kids love Mountains and Waves, so that’s a fun nod from this tee from Quicksilver.

Grace has never met a pair of sport shorts she doesn’t love. She’s first in line for all her brother’s hand-me-downs. Ceci is loving this blue pair because she says they are a comfy compromise b/w her running shorts and a full length athletic short. And they are super soft and in fact, very cozy.
3. Ruffles, Puff Sleeves & Dad-ish Denim

This dress, is the essence of dressed-up Grace. She has two speeds: sporty and super fem. The dress is super-soft and comfy, and she’ll wear it over leggings and with a jacket when it gets cooler. Ceci is all about these jeans. They are technically from the boys’ section, and if not for the elastic pulls she’d swim in them, but she really likes that she can move in them and that they are super soft.
4. Leopard Jumpsuits, Denim Ruffle Dresses & Puff Sleeves

Ceci has the floor version of this romper from last year and price-per-wear, it’s basically paying her these days. Grace claimed this years’ leopard print version as her own.

There were a few denim dresses the girls tried on that were a little blah. This blue ruffled one is just enough fun that it made the cut.
5. More Denim Dresses & Boyish Jeans

The black dress on Grace has a great zipper detail. Ceci went to the boys’ category again for jeans, and did the same, elastic pulls trick on jeans that would otherwise fall right off her. She also folded them under and is currently considering chopping them. Wonder where she got that idea?
6. Utility Boots, Cargo Pants, Tie Dye & Black Leather Moto Jackets

The “share closet” came from the position statement of “if we share these, can we keep them?” It was a next level of sisterly cooperation. The share closet includes the moto jacket, the sweaters, the cargo pants and both boots. So basically all.of.it. Oy NSale, you’re killing me here. Sisters teaming-up for price-per-wear efficiency at least. That I appreciate fully.
7. Chill, Sleepover & Loungewear

Ceci doesn’t normally love to “twin” with Grace the way Gracie LOVES to twin with Ceci, but they agreed this sleep set works for them.

Ceci is hanging on to the tie dye zip up and the urban green leggings. The bells didn’t quite hit the bottom of her leg the way she’d like, and the purple set was cute but too fitted for her comfort. Grace is refusing to let go of anything she’s wearing in any of these photos. Let the returns negotiations begin. I feel more “share closet” coming in hot.
8. What We Don’t See, But Not To Be Missed: Sports Bras
The one item you will see none of because they completely rejected them are the Spanx girl leggings. They both agreed they feel, “totally weird.” I’m thankful for that actually, b/c something about Spanx + my girls felt totally weird to me too. The other item that you can’t see in any of the photos, by design, are all of the sports bras Ceci is wearing. She hit the jackpot; they are all actually super-comfy and cute. So we’ll shortcut that right here to her favorites:
The girls had a blast, and found new ways to cooperate and share not just a birthday, but apparently a closet this year. Cheers to more cooperation ’21. And #sisterhood forever. Life is short, the kids are not. Hug them more.
