My rainbow mug is my very favorite to drink from in the mornings. It’s hopeful, it’s colorful and it’s a reminder of the friends and family I love and support every day, but especially this month. There’s so much dissonance in the world right now. Buying a coffee cup with a rainbow on it may not solve our deep issues, but it can help boost our mood to continue the work, I say. Rainbows symbolize inclusion and hope, and I think we can use as many reminders of those tenets as we can get these days.
Black Trans & Queer Organizations To Support
These coffee mugs are a lovely, daily reminder to ourselves to support our friends and be allies, but in addition to this, please support these organizations that are raising the voices of and helping our Black trans and queer friends and citizens advance in our society.
Support Black Trans Leadership: TGI Justice Project (TGIJP) supports Black Trans leaders inside & outside of prisons, jails & other locked facilities through political education & leadership development. They also assist with re-entry programs and legal advice.
Black Trans Advocacy Coalition: This organization works to “improve the black trans human experience by overcoming violence and injustice in the world through the power, value and love of all people”
Black Trans Circles (BTC): BTC develops the leadership of Black trans women in the South and Midwest through the creation of healing justice spaces to work through oppression-based trauma and incubate community organizing efforts to address anti-trans murder and violence.
Center For Black Equity: As the Global leader of the Black LGBTQ+ Pride movement, CBE is breaking barriers to accessing employment and opportunity through equipping community leaders with the tools, experiences, and knowledge that enable them to unlock the leadership and problem-solving potential of themselves and others.
Vintage & Handmade Rainbow Mugs
I want all of these. I mean, what a beautiful way to start the day with your coffee or end the day with your tea…in a cup that says love is love is love. Yes, please, I’ll take a cabinet-full. Some of these are one-of-a-kind and some are made-to-order and some are ready to ship. Regardless, they’re all what I want to look at right now. (This post was started prior to our one-week pause, so since some are vintage/one-of-a-kind I’ve linked to similar options!)
1/ progress flag mug: Love this representation mug.
2/ BiteyFace handmade mug from Etsy: I have this and a couple of her other mugs on order. SO beautiful. It seems her production may be a little behind right now, just fyi if you’re ordering on a time crunch.
4/ progress pride flag & black lives matter mug: This flag is not only the most inclusive, it’s also great design. Love.
5/ coral & turquoise handmade mugs: These are adorable and give me a Fiestaware vibe. Love. Unfortunately, only the yellow is currently in stock, but I do believe this shop restocks the other colors!
6/ mother: Mom always needs her own mug. Don’t steal it. Vintage Japanese mug.
7/ vintage rainbow at bottom: I love these cafe-style heavier vintage mugs. They’ll last forever (and I guess already have!)
8/ handmade earthenware: A beautiful more subtle option.
9/ vintage unicorn: A not-subtle-at-all option. You are a special unicorn.
Thank you readers for your continued effort to learn more and support Black businesses & organizations. The LGBTQIA community needs our continued support overall, but especially our Black trans friends, family and neighbors — to support their voices, their rights, and their visibility as they are one of the most marginalized groups in our society. Thank you for joining our efforts in continuing to learn and respect and change.
To all my gay and lesbian and queer and trans friends, I love you, I see you, I will continue to help raise your voices. Love to you all this Pride Month.

Some days there will be dance parties, some days there will be recipe ideas, some days there will be fashion, and some days there will be none of that… just a Portland mom trying to make it through, y’all. All are welcome. xo
