What do I love? I love a comfy closet staple that’s also chic and versatile. I mean, that’s the wardrobe holy grail, right?
Summer Outfit Inspo: Athleta Cosmic Pants
The Athleta Cosmic Pants are just that. AND they’re lightweight enough to wear all summer long! Wow. Too good to be true? That’s what I thought. But, no. These are as good and true as it gets.
The wide-leg cut makes them super breezy and they’re made from a tech fabric but feel so silky. They’re breathable, packable, and abrasion-resistant, meaning they won’t snag. So you can wear these babies hiking AND to the office AND out to dinner! I mean. It makes the price-point completely worth it. This was one of those items I got in the mail and thought “OK, I’ll just try them on and most likely send them back.” Not so much. I couldn’t take them off, hahaha. I’m hooked. *Size note update: They now come in numbered sizes and find Athleta to run true to your typical pant size!
Athleta Cosmic Pants: Dressed Up For Summer
If you haven’t realized it yet from my recent posts, a knotted tee is my favorite for summer. It looks breezy and casual, but really defines the waist and is so flattering with high-waisted pants, shorts or skirts. I can’t stop tying my tees. I won’t stop. I love it. As someone with a shorter torso, it’s just such a game-changer. Plus, who wants to be trying to tuck in summer? Not me. Really loving this look so much.

Athleta Cosmic Pants: Dressed Down For Everyday
I feel like I’ve already gone on and on about these pants, but a pair that can pass as office wear that I actually want to wear all day long at home? OK. These are great for running errands or lounging on the porch, drinking an iced matcha latte, and reading this adorable magazine I love, Sweet Paul. Remember printed magazines? YES. I love them. I always forget to look at digital subscriptions, but these I keep and treasure, and find a little break in my day to sit down and enjoy them.

Shop Wide-Leg Pants At Athleta
Because their fabric and fits are just so so good, I went ahead and only included Athleta pants in this roundup. Also, their customer service is incredible as are their return policies. Promise this post isn’t sponsored, I’ve just had the best luck with them, and they make my favorite pants! I’m intrigued by the new Brooklyn wide-leg version below! We all know by now how much I love the Brooklyn joggers by my recent post here where I styled them up a bunch of ways. All the options below do come in black, too, but in color, it’s just easier to see the details. Is it bad that I want them all?
If you’re looking to shop a Black-owned business, these stunning black wide-leg pants from Kiya Tomlin look really amazing. I got a couple of her pieces lately and the jersey fabric is SO soft and lovely.
Do you have any other favorite breezy versatile summer pants? I feel like it’s such a huge score when you find some winners. Sometimes I want to put on cute cutoffs, but most of the time I’m living for breezy pants this time of year. They’re just easier. And I think we could all use easier right now.

The Brooklyn pants are on regular rotation over here. Flattering, well-made, and wrinkle-free.
You’re knotted tee looks terrific and inspires some (like me) who are hesitant.
Unpacking… it highlights the waist and tucks it all in with a forgiving fabric of the tee.
I will (gulp) try to try it!
Haha you got this, mama! Trust me, I didn’t think I could ever do a cropped or knotted tee, but it works so well with the right pants or skirts! And makes me feel so much less frumpy! I think bc so many shirts hit right at my widest part, but the half tuck or knot just makes everything look like it fits me better!
The Brooklyn wide legs are so, so good – try them! They are for sure MY holy grail pants of the summer. I love the cropped length – super breezy and show off cute chunky sandals really well.
I will have to try! The cropped length looks so good!
Which Kiya Tomlin pieces did you get and in what size? I am in between sizes according to the chart…
I got the peep shoulder top in an XS but I’d probably slightly prefer the S. And the jersey pencil skirt in a S and it’s PERFECT!
I have two pairs of the Athleta Brooklyn ankle pants and wear them regularly. The notch at the ankles is perfect!
Athleta stuff is definitely a rare splurge for me (I bought those Brooklyn pants one pair per year, waiting for the rare sales), but the Departure line at Eddie Bauer is a very similar aesthetic and similar material at a more reasonable price. I have a pair of wide-leg ankle pants, and there’s also a jumpsuit I’m interested in, on sale for $45.

Some of the EB stuff looks great. Thank you so much!
You call out a 4P for these pants but they only come in s, m, l…?
AH you’re right, just corrected it! Wearing a Petite Small. The Brooklyn joggers come in numeric sizes, but you’re right these are XXS-XL. Thanks for the catch!
I am in Los Angeles and recently got the North Face Aphrodite Motion capri’s.. Was recommended them by someone who lives in Florida -who says she finds herself wearing them everyday. — I am getting to the age where I shouldn’t wear shorts everywhere but I can’t stand to be hot. Indeed the fabric on these are light and cool. Love to hear from someone who lives in humid weather and has tried the athleta pants… tk you!
Jo, my mom splits her time between Arkansas and Florida and loves these! She doesn’t wear shorts anymore, so a find like this is always on her radar! Hope that helps.
how do you get your tees to knot so well? mine keep coming out, or there’s just not enough fabric to do it. I have a short torso too and love the look for me as well, but just cant get the knots to stick!!!
Some shirts seem to just do better. My James Perse U tees are a nice thin fabric that ties well. In some other shirts I have to size up a bit. But the thinner shirts overall seem to do better. I have some linen blend tees from J.Crew that also knot well! I hope that helps!
I would love to know, if you had to pick, would you choose these wide leg pants or the joggers? Which one do you love more for looks, comfort and versatility?
That’s a great question. I’d say for my own personal style I probably wear the joggers a tiny bit more, but for breeziness (if it’s hot where you are) and for versatility I’d choose the Cosmic pants! I know that’s not one answer. Haha. I typically wear my really sporty clothes most often, but these pants above are literally SO comfortable.
Huge athleta fan… I keep trying lulu and then go back to athleta. I just got the Brooklyn textured shorts and they are fabulous! I struggle with shorts with my more muscular thighs. But these are amazing and very flattering. I now want any and all Brooklyn pants 😂😂
Haha right? All the Brooklyn line seems amazing! Good to know about the shorts!
Athleta is the best in all ways! Please also consider the Chelsea wide leg in navy with white top stitching. I have and love it. So comfy and flattering and UNIQUE.
Zippy saz hi to Camper!
Ah I’ll check it out! Thanks!
Paskho has a similar pant that I am obsessed with at a slightly lower price point. Am wearing them everywhere this summer. All their pants are amazing and just got their tunic tee which is also amazing!

My Cosmic pants arrived today! Thanks for the recco! I am 5’4 with a short torso and the small petite fits well. What tops would you style these with for a dressier office look? Fancier date night look? Thanks!
Oh yay I’m so glad they fit well! For date night I’d do a cami probably tucked in. For office I’d probably tuck in a button down blouse that is flowy too in like a silk or tencel fabric so it wouldn’t show tucked into the pants. A cami with a blazer would be great for either occasion, too! I hope that helps!
