It’s no secret I love Athleta joggers. I’ve been blogging about my favorite pair for years now, and my go-to way to wear them in summer is with a graphic tank and sandals. This year, Athleta stopped making that exact pair, so it prompted me to try some other options from the brand (they’re just that good).
Athleta Brooklyn Joggers: 7 Ways To Love ‘Em For Summer
Well, weeks ago I found the gorgeous Brooklyn Joggers** and though they were initially back-ordered, they were worth the wait. Good news is, they aren’t back-ordered anymore! Hurray! Scotti also tried them on recently and loved them, along with a few other great pants from Athleta. So, I thought I’d follow up with a post styling them for summer since they’re one of my go-to pieces.
(Note: Sustainable items in the post are marked with a **)
1. Athleta Joggers + A Knotted Graphic Tee & Platform Sandals
I love a good knotted tee in the summer. I wear it this way with all of my high-waisted pants, shorts & skirts. As someone who has a shorter torso and not a well-defined waist, this is a really flattering look. I’m not OK with true crop tops and showing my midsection, but when the waistline is high-rise, and just a bit of skin shows when I move, I’m totally down. These platform sandals are the ones Emily and I have been raving about lately. I’ve had this cushiony snake print pair for years and they’re flattering and oh so comfy. Quite a few shades are left in stock on Amazon, and a few pairs of black and tan are on major sale at Nordstrom ($27!)

2. Athleta Joggers + An Earthtone Tank & White Court Sneakers
To say I love this color combo is an understatement. Earth tones like these paired with a bright white shoe is my current color-combo crush! This tank from Athleta is the best! It comes in a few other good shades, too. These Everlane Tread sneakers** are SO soft and comfy inside. Since I haven’t been wearing shoes a ton besides my easy-to-slip-on Birks, I almost forgot. I put them on for this post and wow. SO good.

3. Athleta Joggers + A Black Cami & Wedge Sandals
Being the Sporty Spice that I am, when I dress up I like to include something a little…well, sporty. This might be one of my favorite outfit combos, and though I’m not sure where I’ll wear it this year, it’s been a go-to for the last two summers. Throw on a blazer or kimono (see below) if you need a jacket in the AC or to warm it up if your nights are still cool. I just found this camisole at Banana Republic in a washed silk that is cut the same as mine, but is on sale for $31! Just ordered. Love. Add a fun snake print bag for a pop of pattern.

4. Athleta Joggers + A Kimono & Black Wedge Sandals
This kimono is one of my favorite closet pieces. It’s drapey and cool and badass and so comfy to throw on when the AC is cranking right now. It looks good over just about anything, too, including these olive Athleta joggers. I wear it as a robe a lot of times, too, in the summer. It’s just the best. It does comes with a tie, as well.

5. Athleta Joggers + A Colorful Graphic Tee & White High-Tops
A slightly cropped muscle tank is my favorite thing to wear with joggers in the summer. This amazing tee is from Black-owned business The Sable Collective. And dang. But also good, it just sold out it looks like. I LOVE their Pay The Lady tee, too though. I DIY’d mine by cutting off the sleeves and cutting the bottom off to just below my waistline (I compared it to a tee I have and love.) It’s an easy update to a favorite tee you find yourself just not wearing as often due to the fit. Oh, and me and high-tops have a love/hate relationship. See my latest review of these amazing Converse Mid-Tops here. They’re so much more flattering on my legs than the classic high-tops.

6. Athleta Joggers + A Gray Tee & Colorful Sandals
This is an easy way to style up a fun, colorful shoe. For some reason, olive green just looks great with a bright shoe (I used this same trick with camo pants and my bright sneakers.) These Tevas are so so comfy and lightweight and happy. Love. Also, this is my favorite gray tee on the planet.

7. Athleta Joggers + A Knotted White Button Down & Taupe Heels
There’s nothing like a fresh white button-down — and finding one that is a soft summer weight is worth the effort. The one I have is older LOFT from last year and has since sold out, but this one from Nordstrom and this one from & Other Stories look amazing. Ooh and this one from Madewell is in plus size and made out of a cotton, lyocel and rayon blend. I sized up in mine for a breezy summer fit and I love it.

Great ideas, thanks! Wondering if you would do an update to your “comfy wireless bras” post sometime soon? (Seems appropriate while I’m still quarantining… )
Ah I may need to do that! For now this is hands down my favorite! They now offer this Lift version AND it’s for DD-DDD. https://shopstyle.it/l/bjyil
This post is the best. I love that many of us can recreate close approximations of these outfits with things we have in our closets, without buying new stuff. Thank you!
Love all of these!
Thanks so much, Leigh!
Still promoting Everlane despite the recent attention brought to the racist culture? Surprised…
Well, dang. I just need to quit dithering and go ahead and order these beauties–you’ve sold me! ALSO you completely blew my mind with the cutting-off-the-short-sleeves-to-make-a-muscle-tank trick! WHAAAAT?! Seriously brilliant move–thank you! I’ve already done so with two of my shirts and am thrilled. And agree with you on the platform leopard-print sandals; I got mine last year on your guys’ recommendation and I adore them. Side note: I can’t figure out exactly HOW they make my legs look a splash cuter than other sandals do … but I’m here for it. 🙂
Thank you again, Laura!
Haha yay! Omg yes this is my favorite new hack. Haha. I’m so glad you like it, too. And right?! Those magical sandals! Not all platforms are as comfy as these and somehow they do wonders on the legs! I’m totes here for it, too. Thanks, lady.
YES! Saw this on FB. Thank you!!
Awesome! Gah, they really are a new fav. I’ve worn them every other day lately haha.
can you tell me how the Brooklyn jogger fits? True to size? Small?
It fits true to size! I’m wearing a small here and that’s my typical size in joggers. hope that helps!
Thank you so much for this post! You inspired me to pull the trigger on the Brooklyn Joggers. I absolutely love your style. And your hair cut is making me want to cut my hair so bad. You’re a babe!!
Hi this is totally random, but where did you get those organizer cubes that are in that shelf behind you in this post? Obsessed with all your outfits and also those storage bins!
Thanks so much! Those are older Ikea bins. I haven’t been there in a while but they did make them for quite a few years in a row so maybe they are still available!
