Oh, Hello Madewell, A Try-On: 9 Cute Spring Looks

Madewell has been on my fashion radar for, well, forever. But, I recently came to the realization that it’s been so long since I’ve actually tried anything on from Madewell and that it was high-time to fix that. I’ve been eyeing SO many cute new Madewell pieces, and since we have a good old fashioned brick-and-mortar location here in Grand Rapids, Michigan I decided I was overdue for a massive try-on session. Let’s just say that I did not leave the store disappointed (or empty-handed).

Don’t Sleep on Madewell: 9 Cute Outfits For Spring

Whether you are a long-time Madewell fan or new to the brand, you will find that they definitely came through this spring. I found several instant wardrobe classics (like: the perfect ’90s inspired denim maxi skirt, the most flattering fitted linen vest and these fan-favorite vintage patch pocket wide-leg jeans) as well as some excitingly trendy pieces (these cross-tab low-slung jeans and the prettiest resort-ready printed maxi dress).

Outfit 1: Fitted Linen Vest + Patch Pocket Wide-Leg Jeans

There is just something about a fitted linen vest and a wide-leg jeans outfit combination that I really love – the structured fit of this vest pairs perfectly with these medium wash front-pocket jeans to create a polished, yet easy ‘fit. I’ve been wanting to try these jeans on for FOREVER and I am so happy I finally did. I really like how put-together this outfit looks, with minimal effort and maximum comfort. Both the vest and the jeans came home with me.

Vest (6, TTS) | Jeans (29, TTS) | Adidas (7.5, TTS)

Fit Notes: Madewell’s Perfect Vintage Patch Pocket Wide-Leg Jeans are a top-rated bestseller and a staple style of theirs for a very good reason. The style of front-patch pockets is pretty iconic and these are the newly updated, wide-leg version of Madewell’s longtime fan-favorite.

Outfit 2: Mock-Neck Tank + Cross-Tab Low-Slung Jeans

In the past, I’ve been such a ride-or-die high-waist denim girlie, but these ultra-flattering Cross-Tab Edition Low-Slung straight jeans are single handedly responsible for opening my eyes to trying other rises. They are really just. so. good. And, they aren’t nearly ‘low-slung’ as I was thinking they would be. They fit pretty true to mid-rise and I don’t want to take them off.

Tank (Medium, TTS) | Jeans (29, TTS) (More Sizes Here) | Sneakers (7.5, TTS)

Fit Notes: In the past, I would have skipped right past this pair of jeans simply because the weren’t high-rise. I am SO glad I didn’t. These are my favorite pair of jeans that I’ve tried in recent months! My advice: do it, try the jeans you wouldn’t normally try, they might just surprise you.

Outfit 3: Striped Ribbed Half-Zip Sweater + The Perfect Vintage White Jeans

A striped half-zip sweater and a vintage inspired pair of white jeans is just a classically preppy outfit combo that’s perfect for spring and not many do it better than Madewell.

Sweater (M, TTS) | Jeans (29, TTS) | Sambas (7.5, TTS)

Fit Notes: This half-zip striped sweater is 100% cotton and the fabric has a nice weight to it, making it perfect for Spring evenings. These jeans are currently marked down from $128 to $99.50 plus an extra 30% off with the code: SPRING30. They come in three other denim washes and are also available in petite, standard, tall and taller sizes.

Outfit 4: Basket-Stitch Vest + Super Wide Leg Jeans

These super wide leg jeans were at the tippy-top of my try-on list when I first spotted them at Nordstrom. They are typically what I look for in a pair of jeans: high-waist, vintage-inspired with non-stretch denim. Also, they are super comfortable, especially for non-stretch denim. I’m a big fan of vests at the moment and this light-weight cropped knit-weave top is a great option for warming temps.

Tank (M, Runs Short) | Jeans (29, TTS) | Sambas (7.5, TTS)

Fit Notes: This ‘textured’ knit vest has a deceivingly cropped fit, so that is something to beware of. It works great with these particular pair of jeans because they are so high-waisted.

Outfit 5: Linen Vest + Mid-Rise Maxi Denim Skirt

Confession: I know maxi and midi denim skirts have been in style for a few years now but this is actually my first time really getting into this trend. I don’t know why I waited so long to get on board and try on this skirt but I honestly did not want to take it off. It is so flattering and comfortable. If you are looking for a classic, ’90s inspired denim maxi skirt, this is the one for you.

Vest (M, TTS) | Maxi Skirt (28, Runs Large) | Adidas Sambas (7.5, TTS)

Fit Notes: I’m really starting to come around to mid-rise waist as a perfectly viable denim option for my body type. I really appreciate that this skirt is mid-rise, it sits nicely on my hips without riding up my waist like a different high-rise version I’ve tried before. It’s 34 1/2 inches in length.

Outfit 6: Tank Midi Dress

This smocked sleeveless midi dress would make a great swimsuit cover-up or beachside dress option. Major bonus: it also comes as in a plus-size option.

Dress (M, TTS) | Adidas Sambas (7.5, TTS)

Fit Notes: This dress is 100% cotton and supremely comfy. It’s lightweight and airy with a stretchy cotton-knit bodice and a gauze inspired skirt with a tiny slit.

Outfit 7: Scoopneck Crop Linen Tank + The Rilee Denim Midi Skirt

I know, I’m a little late to the midi denim skirt game. But I fell in love with BOTH of the denim skirts I tried on and am having trouble deciding on which option I like more. This white denim midi skirt is the perfect option for chic yet minimalistic vibe. Also, let’s talk about this linen top – I especially love the elevated details like the scoop neck and the hook clasp buttons. It also comes in a really lovely white-and-blue striped option.

Top (6, TTS) | Skirt (29, TTS) | Adidas Sambas (7.5, TTS)

Fit Notes: I am a 34DD and I’d say this top is fairly fitted. I probably could have sized up to an 8 but they didn’t have that size available in store. Honestly, I like the way the size 6 fits…but the black bra I’m wearing was definitely the wrong choice for this try-on and makes it seem worse than it is. The skirt is 38in” in length, but feels shorter because it is high-waisted.

Outfit 8: A Floral Sleeveless Midi Dress

I’m not usually much of fan of print dresses, simply because I can never seem to find a print that I love and can imagine keeping around in my closet for years. BUT, that’s why I HAD to try this vibrant print dress on as soon as I saw it. We are going to Mexico (!!) for my 40th birthday next month and I think this dress will be perfect resort wear. If you’re feeling this print as much as I am, there is also a cute Short Sleeve Linen Crop Button-Up Shirt option with the same floral print.

Dress (6, TTS) | Adidas Sambas (7.5, TTS)

Fit Notes: I really love the deep v-neck with the three peek-a-boo slits on the bust. It’s meant to show a little skin, I just wore the wrong bra. I’d switch out for my trusty strapless Wacoal Red Carpet bra or these Nippies I’ve been wanting to try out. It’s made from a soft, comfortable crinkle poplin cotton and has a side-zip.

Outfit 9: A Sleeveless Denim Mini Dress

Okay, I was not expecting to love this cute little denim mini dress until I got it on. The fit is so easy and it’s made from an extra comfortable, super soft cotton so it’s extra comfortable. There is also a super gorgeous minty green lightweight linen option available at Nordstrom.

Dress (L, TTS) | Adidas Sambas (7.5, TTS)

Fit Notes: Most denim dresses I’ve tried have all been fitted in the waist, so I love that this one is not. It makes for a flattering and comfortable fit. Also, most fitted bodices like this dress usually don’t fit my DD chest. So I was super pleasantly surprised that this dress not only fit, but lifted the girlies a tad as well. I sized up to a large because it is pretty short (I am 5ft 7in).

I hope this post was helpful! Until next time,
