If ever there was a match made in sartorial heaven, it’s the high-rise flare and striped tee combo. A little bit boyish, a little bit 70’s fabulous, yet feels so fresh and sexy. (Even with a cardigan. I KNOW.)
I’m wearing Madewell’s Flea Market flares – a jean I’ve been stalking for a while. This particular wash (with the fab BUTTONS) has a slight tendency to sell quickly. I’m completely obsessed….
But I know what you’re thinking: THE BUM, S. SHOW US THE BUM. (A good bum makes-or-breaks the jean, you know?)
High-rise-jean bums are so tricky to pull off….they’re like the 18″ zipper on mom jeans: AWFULLY LONG. But these? Are pretty amazing.
Also, the inseam is seriously long. I hacked off a good 4-5 inches. And by “I,” I mean my sister’s husband, Zack. He got out scissors and a razor and did all kinds of fancy stuff….and a few minutes later they looked like this:
I took pics, so if you’re interested in a quick little tutorial, let me know. It was a pretty genius technique.
Outfit Details
jeans: Madewell Flea Market Flares Button-Front Edition (size 24 for reference)
tank: old Rag and Bone, but I’ve also worn my linen Vince striped tank tucked into flares (and yes – I machine wash and dry it -cold/low). Also loving Topshop’s striped tank that’s trimmed in red. Perfection.
cardigan: Bop Basics Cocoon Cardigan (now on sale!!)
shoes: old Target platforms – they’re falling apart, I keep meaning to replace them, but I have yet to find a pair that makes me swoon. This tan, fringed pair by Lucky Brand just rocketed to the top of my SWOON list.
bag: long gone, but I’m loving the over-the-top embellishment of this beachy, boho clutch. SO good with flares and platforms.
necklace: Free People Isabel Choker
I’ve been having a blast this week, back in my little hometown of Marquette, MI. My big brother and his family were also in town and somehow my nephews have magically transformed themselves from babies into teenagers. Still not quite sure how they pulled that one off, but obviously I’m not the one who has aged sixteen years overnight. OBVIOUSLY. NOT.
xo,

I definitely want to know the technique for the frayed hem!
Me
Me too! Me too! I love any distressing on denim. And have a pair of jeans I could do this to! Please?!
long, but not long enough…and no tall size…I keep hoping but need 35 or 36 inseams
You should try J Brand Lovestory jeans. They are CRAZY long
I loved those jeans but was forced to return them because I found out I was pregnant the day before they arrived. Hoping to find a similar maternity pair when it is no longer in the mid 90s. 🙂 They fabulous on you though!
I’m not sure if they do right now, but sometimes Gap has good maternity flares. I have a dark wash pair from there!
Ummmm, a tutorial from Zack? Let me speak for all the ladies here by saying “yes!!”.
Are these true to size? Also do you have styling ideas for Fall/Winter? I am thin(ish) but busty. I usually wear skinny jeans or straight but these are super cute and remind me of the jeans I always wanted but never had as a 5th grader in the late 70’s.
Nice contouring! Can you tell us about your makeup here?
Yea! Ordered my flea-market flares last week! I need your edging technique!!!!
Heels…I just can’t anymore. Is there hope for flares with flats???
Show the hack! I just bought these
Can you show us how to fray it? I am short and i always have to shorten my jeans
Did you ever post the tutorial on jean “hacking off”?? Please link it 😉
