Mom Street Style – June 2009 Mom

IMG_0276 Meet Corey, our very fashionable June mom.  I ran into Corey while shopping, and was immediately struck by the perfect balance of sexiness (those legs!!) and sophistication in her outfit.  All finished nicely with a Vuitton bag, which never hurts.

Corey pulls off short-shorts with ease, and adds a little height to her small frame with a pair of ever-so-slightly-wedge-heel flip-flops.  High heeled flip-flops can be tough – so many of them look made for teenagers, but Corey's are nice and sleek and therefore work for moms.

In order for moms to pull off short-shorts, it requires good legs, and getting the right proportions.  Showing so much leg should be offset by a slightly more conservative top.  Corey's is perfect.  Not only do the nautical stripes lend a bit of French-girl sophistication, but the higher neck and A-line shape get the proportions exactly right.  The shirt skims over the waistband of the shorts making her look nice and thin (I doubt that Corey is hiding a post-baby belly but the key here is that you COULD hide one) and the overall effect is a fantastic, flirty little outfit.

Corey is wearing Guess shorts, and an Olivia Moon top.  I couldn't find either item online, but if you would like to recreate her look, try these instead:

Michael Kors Flutter Sleeve Bias Striped Top Forever 21 Canvas Short HavaianasWomens-Havaianas40001140198036_medium_PRODUCT_ANGLE_6487

The Michael Kors Flutter Sleeve Bias Striped Top, $73.50, at Zappos.com is the right shape to wear over short-shorts.  For fun little shorts, I love almost everything at Forever 21, but their Canvas Short, $15.80, seemed to be the closest match to Corey's.  Havianas have a great pair of wedge flip-flops appropriately named the High Look for $44.

I also love how Corey paired rich brown and camel (her bag) with the summery navy and white (her outfit).  If you don't want to splurge for a Vuitton (and I won't support fakes – HELLO, child labor!) look for a bag in rich camel leather.  Here are a few of my favs:

Above left is the Round Two bag by Tano, $300 at piperlime.com.  In the center is Banana Republic's Cordoba tote in Cognac, $198.  Lastly, above right is the Melie Bianco School Boy Tote in navy, $99 at piperlime.com.  Bonus -  each bag is large enough to be used as a diaper bag.  Love.

Thanks to Corey for being such a good sport!
