In my latest Latin Dance Class series, we’re going to try something a bit different. Welcome to your Body Movement Challenge, everyone! Are you ready to get outside of your comfort zone and try this with me?!
When I turn on a song I think is really cool and just let my body move how the music tells me, this type of challenge is born. Check out all three videos below for a fun, full-body exercise followed by my dance tutorial and combo routine to “Tukoh Taka” by Nicki Minaj, Maluma & Myriam Fares (which is also the official 2022 World Cup song!).
Fun Full-Body Dance Workout & High-Tempo Routine To “Tukoh Taka”
These dance-workout videos are a challenge because anytime you ask your body to do isolations, the brain-body connection has to be on point in order to only move that one body part. You need to have control and core strength. It’s one of those “pat your head, rub your belly” kind of feelings — times one hundred.
This all might feel tricky in the beginning, but your body will learn.
Body Movement Challenge Part 1: Follow-Along Cardio Dance Workout
Start here with the Body Movement Challenge dance workout first. Doing this low-impact workout allows your body to warm up, isolate and stretch each area that will be used. It will also help you start to muscle-memorize the movement and the order before we put it together.
Trust me, it helps to drill all your moves first.
Body Movement Challenge Part 2: Fast & Fun Latin Dance Tutorial
Next, we’ll put together our body movements from the drills and see what this routine looks like. Practice the combo in this video until you feel comfortable with the choreography and the order of the moves.
Be prepared, the song “Tukoh Taka” by Nicki Minaj, Maluma and Myriam Fares is fast. It’s a wild ride, but we’ll do this together. Let’s go!!!
Body Movement Challenge Part 3: Latin Dance Routine & Freestyle Moves
Lastly, the complete routine to the song. The Body Movement Challenge will happen during the chorus (listen for those “Tukoh Taka” sounds), and you’ll freestyle during the three verses. Your choice, your feeling, dance — however you want! We’ll dance the choreographed part together four times.
Heads-up: This dance sequence is fast, and we change levels. Your body will have to react quickly to the different movements and directions.
You’ve been challenged. Good luck!
I hope you had fun. I hope you laughed. I hope you were challenged both physically and mentally. Let me know in the comments below how it went! Until next time, be sure to like and subscribe to The Mom Edit over on YouTube for the latest.
