The Mother’s Day Gift Guide I’d Actually Want (And Be Excited To Get)

0

Mother’s Day is one of those holidays where I truly love anything from my kids, a card, a note, a drawing, all of it. But I also won’t pretend I don’t love a really good gift.

The kind that feels a little more thoughtful, a little more elevated, maybe even a little indulgent, like something I wouldn’t necessarily buy for myself on a random Tuesday.

So here’s a list of gift ideas that aren’t just another thing. Everything here is something I either already love or would be genuinely excited to get, from small upgrades that make everyday routines better to a few true splurge pieces that feel extra special. (Looking for even more ideas? We rounded up all of our Mother’s Day gift guides right here.)

Mother’s Day Gift Guide: Thoughtful, Elevated Gifts She’ll Actually Love

1. A Pretty (But Functional) Tote

Case-Mate Jelly Tote Bag

I took this Case-Mate Jelly Tote on a recent trip to Mexico and loved it. It wipes clean (no sunscreen stains or sand stuck anywhere), which honestly makes it worth it on its own. The bow detail makes it feel a little more fun than a typical beach bag, and it comes with a small pouch to keep your phone and essentials protected. Tons of colors and patterns too.

2. An Easy Self-Tanning Face Set

Saltyface The Face Set

This is my favorite kind of self-tanner for your face – easy, foolproof, and not too dark. It gives a really natural, streak-free glow without having to think too hard about it. The brush makes it almost impossible to mess up, and with summer coming up, it’s an easy way to get that tan glow without the sun (and the wrinkles and sun damage). (Made with clean ingredients that are vegan and cruelty-free.)

3. Washable Silk Pajamas

eberjay Inez Washable Silk PJ Set

There’s nothing better than slipping into a pair of silk pajamas at the end of a long day. They just make everything feel a little more special. But these are washable, so you get that indulgent feel without the extra effort. Truly the kind of gift that makes getting into bed (or crashing on the couch) feel better instantly. (They come in a ton of colors, too!)

4. Blue-Light Blocking Readers

Ryan Simkhai Blue Light Blocking Readers

I have readers in basically every corner of my house at this point, they just make working and reading SO much easier. #over40 These are the first blue-light blocking ones I’ve tried that don’t have that awful yellow tint to the lenses, which makes such a difference. Plus they come in a ton of colors and styles, so you can actually find a pair you want to wear.

5. Elevated Hair Care

Crown Affair The Bestseller Trio

Crown Affair just feels like a treat. I love the leave-in conditioner…it smells so good and makes my hair feel noticeably softer without weighing it down. I’ve also used the texturizing air dry mousse (especially in the humidity in Mexico), and it instantly became a favorite. The whole brand just feels made for gifting…the packaging, the scent, the formulas…everything feels a little more special. If you want a really good gift, their set with the leave-in, mousse, and dry shampoo is such an easy win.

6. Award-Winning Skincare

Angela Caglia Cell Forté Serum

If you really want to give something that feels next-level, this is it. It’s one of those products you hear about constantly, wins every major beauty award (Allure, Oprah Daily, Elle), and people genuinely swear by. It uses advanced skincare technology (including human stem cell–derived ingredients!) to help improve texture, tone, and glow without a complicated routine. It’s a true splurge in the best way, and exactly the kind of gift she’d never buy for herself…which is what makes it so good.

7. Depuffing Eye Masks

KNESKO Gold Repair Collagen Eye Masks

Eye masks are one of my favorite ways to relax and depuff. Morning after a bad night of sleep? Masks. Getting ready before going out? Masks. These feel indulgent, but they also actually do something, helping with puffiness, dark circles, and fine lines in about 20 minutes. One of those small upgrades that makes a noticeable difference fast.

8. A Rich Body Creme

MIENNE Body Crème – Incendier

This is, hands down, one of the best-smelling body creams I’ve ever used. It feels incredible going on, rich but not heavy, and leaves your skin instantly softer, smoother, and just better. It’s one of those products I almost ration because I don’t want to run out. The packaging is beautiful, it looks good on the counter, and it feels like a true treat every time you reach for it. This is one I’ll be gifting and repurchasing for myself. (PS – you have to check out MIENNE…somehow their products are functional and sexy and perfect for gifting.)

9. A Photo Book (Made Easy)

Photo Book with Designer Service

I used to make photo books for my mom all the time, but they took hours. Like, sitting there moving every single photo around until it felt right. When I got my wedding photos back, I was completely overwhelmed, there were just too many, and I didn’t have the bandwidth to do it myself. So I tried Shutterfly’s free 24-hour design service for the first time and…why did I not do this sooner? It was so good! I’ve used it twice since, and it makes creating a photo book so much easier (and way faster). Such a good gift, without all the work.

10. Specialty Chocolate

Miss Maude’s Dark Chocolate

When in doubt, chocolate. It’s one of those gifts that always works, but this feels like a more fun, elevated version of it. Each bar is made up of different flavored squares (like a built-in sampler), with combinations like bourbon caramel, strawberry ice cream, pretzels, s’mores, even things like whiskey orange peel and mulled wine. It’s such a cool way to try a bunch of flavors, and makes it feel a lot more interesting than your standard chocolate bar.

11. Statement Earrings

Genesis Threader Earrings

I recently discovered KOZAKH jewelry and I’m obsessed. Everything is handmade in the U.S., and the designs are really unique. The pieces are waterproof and tarnish-resistant, and the brand is really thoughtful about how everything is made, from sustainable materials to made-to-order production, which makes them feel even better to support.

12. A Delicate Gold Threader Earring

Piper Ear Threader

From the same designer, this threader is my new favorite (it’s sold as a single, which I actually love for mixing). I’ve been wearing it nonstop (sleeping, showering), and it’s so comfortable with no post to deal with. It adds just enough of a statement to make everyday outfits feel a little more interesting.

13. An Indulgent Tablet Stand

Tablet Stand Pillow

This is one of those things I didn’t know I wanted until I read the reviews…and people love this thing. It has space for snacks, drinks, whatever you need, plus a super stable grip and a comfy bean bag base. One reviewer said to pair it with a page turner (did not know that existed…adding to cart immediately) and called it “life-changing.” SOLD.

14. A High-Tech Skincare Device

ZIIP HALO 2.0

I asked my dermatologist what she thought about these microcurrent devices, and she said they absolutely work. Between that and the rave reviews (the before-and-after photos honestly blew me away), I’m really excited to try this one. It’s designed to lift, tighten, and brighten in just a few minutes, and being able to do that at home instead of booking treatments makes it feel like a pretty amazing option.

15. An Expensive-Smelling Candle

Element Brooklyn Inner Circle Candle

This candle from Element Brooklyn smells just like Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille Candle: warm, a little smoky, slightly sweet, but at a fraction of the price (like over $100 less). It looks good, smells amazing, and feels like a much bigger splurge than it actually is.

16. An Upgraded Tea Towel

French Jacquard Tea Towel

I didn’t realize how good these tea towels were until I was gifted one myself. It’s one of those small upgrades that makes everyday things feel a little nicer. They’re soft, super absorbent, and actually look good on the counter, which somehow makes the whole kitchen feel more put together. (And they come in multiple patterns and colors to choose from.)

At this point, the best gifts aren’t just things to give, they’re thoughtful ones that make everyday life feel a little better, easier, or more enjoyable. Not over-the-top, just things you actually reach for.

And those are the ones I end up using and loving the most.

If you want to see what’s on S’s list this year, her personal Mother’s Day wish list is live — and fair warning, it’s very different from mine (but also very tempting…I always end up wanting things I never would have picked on my own). We also put together a Mother’s Day gift shop full of handmade jewelry, beautiful home pieces, and small-batch finds from independent designers — the kind of gifts that feel really special and that you honestly can’t find at a regular store. It’s worth a browse even if you’re just looking for yourself. (No shame.)

XOXO,

Scotti
