When I was little, I remember giving my mom a hard time about dresses. While my sister was ever-so-carefully cutting out images from Bride magazine, I was a jeans-only kind of kid. Jeans only with my blue sneakers and my skinned knees and my freckles and my too big teeth.
I’m still that way. Not so much with the skinned knees anymore (I’m a terrible ‘fraidy cat on the skateboard) but the freckles and the denim and the sneakers and – yes – the really big teeth. That’s me, I guess.
Nordstrom asked me to take a look at their newly-expanded t.b.d. department. Holy WOW – it now reads as roll call for all of my favorite, most-worn designers.
Rag and Bone? Yup.
James Perse? Yup.
Free People? Oh, yeah.
It’s a darn-near-perfect starting point for anyone looking to nail the concept of casual, effortless style. The kind of style you really can wear all day.
blazer: Chelsea 28 blazer (in sweatshirt material) – sold out but Soft Joie makes a cool sweatshirt blazer (be sure to size down)
shirt: Free People Game Time Linen and Cotton Henley (I’m wearing a small, but could easily have sized down)
jeans: Rag and Bone (old) – I also love the Rag and Bone Skinnies with Crochet Lace distressing (but you can’t go wrong with any rag and bone, really)
shoes: Superga Cotu sneakers
bag: Kate Spade Henry Duffle (old) – but check out Milly’s 2-in-1 Sienna tote. The shape is similar, but it has a cool pop of red…that zips out into a clutch for evenings. Seriously.
accessories: Mike’s watch and my own necklaces….I love Nixon’s The Chronicle watch (you could always buy it for hubs then steal it), and this starburst necklace takes my breath away. I’d layer it with this necklace.
And because The Shopping Enabler hates to disappoint….here are a few other standout pieces from the collection:
All photography by the insanely talented Vafa-Coffman Photography. Love you guys.
And a huge thank you to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post!! As always, all thoughts, opinions, product choices, recommendations and random musings on freckles and teeth are my own.
