You may remember I had surgery almost a year ago to repair my diastasis recti, hernia and some extra saggy skin. Just two weeks ago, I had a follow-up mini surgery to repair the scar tissue that wasn’t healing as well as it should have.
As I continue to heal, wearing jeans just doesn’t work (they hurt my incision area too much). Regular leggings aren’t my jam for a daily basis — they don’t feel like me. Instead, I’ve been relying on comfy (yet cute) joggers and faux-leather leggings. For my usual “momming,” I’ll style them up with cute sneakers, one of my favorite cashmere sweaters and top it all off with a pretty tailored coat.
It works, right?
My Go-To Momiform: Faux Leather Leggings, Cute Sneaks & A Tailored Coat

My cold weather pic with palms in the background..(laughing emoji). That’s Bogota! It was actually 50 degrees.

This J.Crew coat has been my favorite. Has an insulation layer between the wool and the lining. It’s so warm without the bulk. It comes in a LOT of colors in two different versions. Sadly, Black Friday sales cleared out a lot of sizes, but they recently restock some. See if you find your favorite color and size. This is the newer version that comes in amber (the one I have), black, and bright cherry. But the classic version, which basically doesn’t have the button tabs at the waist, comes in eight more colors. Same fit and silhouette. You can find my recent J.Crew coat try-on here.
I love how this kind of coat takes a casual look to the next level with its tailored silhouette and beautiful color.

This momiform was perfect for school drop-off this week — even though it was 8 am and I had no time for makeup, this tailored coat made me feel totally put-together. If you’re wondering how this would look with your favorite jeans, I styled up a similar outfit last year.
Outfit Details
Coat: J.Crew Lady Coat – Almost gone, but see below for similar options! I wear a size 4 Petite (size up if you want to layer thicker sweaters underneath). This coat is made from Italian wool and layered with Thinsulate for extra warmth. It’s a perfect coat to complete casual or fancier looks — I just wore it with jeans, heeled tall boots and a silk emerald top. Classic version here in 8 colors.
Sweater: Everlane Mockneck Cashmere Sweater – TTS. Almost a year later and this is still my favorite sweater. This Cashmere Square Turtleneck would look great, too (I have it in the brass color).
Leggings: Spanx Moto Leggings – Part of Shobop sale (today’s the last day). Probably the only leggings I’d wear with a regular outfit. *Petite sizing here and plus size here*. I also did a full review of Spanx leggings here.

Shoes: Everlane Tread Trainers – **Sustainable pick** I’m working on a full review of these. I bought them when they launched and I’ve worn them non-stop for months now. They recently came out with a gum sole version and I love them. Size up.
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Jumbo Love Bag – 40% off with code: thanks40. (Don’t miss it — today’s the last day!) I’ve had this bag for three years already and it’s still a go-to (it’s like a Chanel without the price tag). The size is big enough — I even fit my books and notebook for my classes inside — and the style makes everything look more put-together. I highly recommend it.

I’m so sorry that you had to have a second surgery! I recently had surgery and am dealing with the same incision issues – jeans will not work. Hard to believe that I would get tired of wearing leggings, but after 4 weeks, I definitely am… Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
Thank you….I think it was worth it. The scar looks and feels so much better. So happy you did it too. Hope you keep recovering well! xo, Julieta
