My Most-Worn Outfits In Summer (‘Cause I’m Really A Fall Gal)

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE summer as a season to enjoy… but I’m more of a fall girl when it comes to fashion.

I kinda hate so many summery pieces, since my style doesn’t lean super femme, so I’ve come up with some tips to make them feel more ‘me.’

If you also like a sporty mix of clothing with just a touch of femme and find summer difficult, too, check out some of the ways I keep dresses, linen and shorts balanced out with sneakers, baseball caps, vests and more, to fit my aesthetic.

The 5 Outfits I Rely On In Summer

I’ve always had a more eclectic style. I have talked a lot here about mixing genres in my wardrobe and I find when I really lean into that for summer, it helps. As jeans and I have a wavering relationship as of late, I’m definitely not grabbing those in summer anymore and with all that’s happening to the world, the PNW summers keep getting hotter.

Linen and cotton matching sets, breezy dresses and tanks paired with my sporty shoes and accessories are what I’ve found that I feel confident and fun in. Give me sneakers and dresses over dresses and heels or sandals any day. I adore that combination.

Let’s get into the rest.

1 | Linen Blend Tank + Pants Sets

I freaking love this set. I have 3 of them. They’re light and comfy and still cute. They’re versatile. I love them styled sporty with sneakers and a trucker hat or dressed up a bit with sandals and jewelry and a cute clutch.

It’s fun to mix and match the sets, too. This is the brown and grey-blue colors. There are a bunch to choose from. Planning on share more about this set in a future post, but my main tip is turn these inside out and lay these flat to dry or they will shrink. But if you do, they wash beautifully and may also become your favorite go-to for summer.

2 | Matching Linen Tank + Skirt For Hot Days

And just like the last outfit, I find a boxy tank and skirt matching set to be a similarly fab combo for summer months. These two pieces from Gap (offered in other shades, too) are new finds for this year. And omg I’m in love.

The tank buttons up the back but otherwise fits very close to the tanks I pictured above. With my shorter upper body this style just works so well. And I don’t have to worry about tucking anything in because who the heck wants to mess with that when it’s hot?

I love how this skirt pairs with my fav Farm Rio top, too. Balanced this baby out with some platform Nike Blazer Low sneakers and a sporty crossbody. I will be taking both combos on my summer travels, for sure.

I don’t wear dresses much throughout the rest of the year, but hot temps call for dresses in summer for sure. I like fun prints in breezy, easy-to-wear styles and to make them feel more my vibe? Sneakers.

You’ll almost always see me pairing dresses with sneakers because they feel less precious and way more sporty that way. It’s a great way to balance them to fit my style which isn’t super femme.

I’ve said it before, but I love Flat Socks insoles so I don’t have to worry about what socks work etc. I hate even seeing any sock peeking out of shoes. I also just got these and they’re SO good! No-show and totally cushiony without being thick.

Too hot for sneakers? I will throw on a monochromatic Teva or similar sandal to still add that casual sportiness to the look.

4 | Athletic Dress + Summer-weight Vest

This has been a great go-to combination for a few years now. I love love this super soft stretchy Beyond Yoga tank dress and while I will wear it on its own, I prefer it with my pretty white cotton vest on top.

It again makes the vibe fit more with my own style and adds just a little bit more coverage which I like. But, without sleeves, it’s much cooler! If it’s gonna be blasting AC where I’m going, I can still fit a blazer or other jacket on top of the whole ensemble. I’ll be repeating this for the 3rd summer this year!

5 | Shorts + Lightweight Shirtdress

Last but not least, this is about the only way I feel comfortable wearing shorts for any length of time. Shorts just don’t fit me that great ever (I guess it’s short torso + thicker thighs + butt) but they always ride up or dig or something.

This trick of wearing an open shirt dress over my tee and shorts is so comfy and I think super cute, too. It’s something different. It’s layering but still not hot. I like pairing a platform sneaker with my shorts to make myself feel a little taller and more fabulous, also.

As always, dear TME crew, I hope this has been a helpful rundown.

Sometimes I’m in my head so much (ahem, Aquarius much?) I have to really sit down and think about what would be helpful to share here. While I do love fashion for fashion’s sake, I love that we try our best to really focus on sharing practical tips on what to wear. I wouldn’t be doing this job without coming from that angle so I thank you for being here and allowing us to do just that!

Happy almost officially summer before too long thank god for the sun in the PNW!
