You may have seen my recent search for the best lug sole loafers for spring. After hemming and hawing over which pair to keep — because I loved many of them– I decided the ones that felt most exciting to me were the lighter Dolce Vita pair. There’s just something fresh and fun about a pair of white shoes, especially this time of year. But truthfully, I’d wear these anytime.
How To Style White Lug Sole Loafers
While I adore a white shoe (OK…OK, in this case, it’s kinda ivory) they can sometimes be a little bit more tricky to style. (Though I’d argue as someone with shorter legs and a lighter skin tone, I have similar trouble with a black pair.) I always love a good styling challenge, so I rummaged through some current favorite pieces to see what works best. Let’s style them up a bunch of ways…See if your fav combo lines up with mine!

With A Blazer & Graphic Tee
Spoiler alert: this is definitely my favorite look. Preppy-meets-grunge rock will always be my most treasured combo. Haha, #90sgirlforever. Keeping the blazer and tee darker here makes it look overall less busy, even though we’ve got a patterned blazer AND a graphic tee. The slightly darker wash jeans, even though faded, also make the pairing easier and let the white loafers really shine!
With A Black Sweater & Blue Jeans
This could become the case for why white shoes are easier to style than black shoes, for me. Look how well these white loafers do with a variety of blue washes and fits? I don’t have the same luck with black shoes when I try to style them up. They tend to cut off the length of my leg more. But the white isn’t as heavy, and maybe it’s just a fresh spring update, too.
With Gray Or Washed Black Jeans
I love this almost monochromatic look, too. A nice pair of washed black jeans are my most-worn favorites and they add some interest to an all-black outfit while keeping it more casual than dark black jeans do. Those tend to look dressier or look more like black dress pants, I find. Which isn’t typically the vibe I’m after.
With Destroyed Denim, 2 Ways
I don’t often venture myself into a bodysuit, but I got this one from A&F last year after nearly the whole TME team raved — they’re amazing…and…they’re right. So cute with high-waisted denim! While this isn’t my top look, it definitely works! I like the really destroyed denim with the preppy loafers…so I tried it with a striped tee and utility jacket, too. Love!
Many Attempts At Monochromatic
The graphic tee combo is definitely the most ‘me.’ I don’t mind the other two, but they’re a little too preppy for my style. I actually think I prefer this tee look with a black mule instead though so…haha. Maybe fail.
I know, I was surprised I liked this, too. I think it’s the lug sole here that helps make them feel less precious and balanced with shorts. I actually love this! Favorite shorts, too…review post coming soon!
And Even With Sweatpants (Ok, Joggers)
These are a new fav purchase. After failing twice trying to find denim joggers I like, it dawned on me these give a similar look to a light wash denim jogger, but are way comfier! These J.Crew Vintage Terry joggers run a little big and stretch a bit with wear, so if between sizes, size down. This would be a great travel outfit…dreaming.

The first two below link to my exact Dolce Vita pair, which run true to size. (Not sure why the first image shows up as a white sole, those are on a different page.) I’ll be honest, mine and the taupe ones below that I tried on previously are really the favorites. I’m not a huge fan of a black sole on a white shoe, but that Everlane pair is pretty cute.
Would love to know what your favorite combo above is in the comments. It still feels chilly here today, but I can’t wait until me and my ankles can bust out soon in these lovely shoes…to the grocery store? Target? This joke is old but what else have I got right now, y’all? Whew.
Peace and pizza grease.
Uh, I was just trying that out and no, no I don’t think it works. Hahaha. Byeeeeeee.
